Pretty much shows these engines were never made for Performance. And because these engines are workhorses and no Motorsport engines people often talk sh*t about them. I have a 6.5 myself. Its not fast but the reason I bought it was because of Transportation purposes. I had a Mercedes Sprinter from 1997 and had to sell it to africa because it had multiple problems. I guess you can say I got fooled with the car. But when I compare the 94 GMC I have with the Mercedes Sprinter its just more comfort because the cruise Control on the GMC remebers the last speed you drove and also the Pickup got AC. Mercedes Sprinter had rarely to no AC. So its definetly the better Transportation vehicle for long trips especially when you drive to hot places like me
Yup, that sounds horrible!
How much horsepower and torque?
Qwantuz hp? ?
Qwantuz hp??
Qwantuz hp??
How much horsepower and torque
for some reason i think it’s so cool when people overseas drive american trucks let alone turn them up 🤘🏼
Is that a caprice classic hood ornament? Awesome truck!
Probably not making 200 HP out of that turd engine
Supercharged diesel? Nice!
#hermeettinen
Great vid I'd like to build one !
120 HP (90 KW) at 3200 RPM (assuming) would be 197 FT/LB (267 NM). If 15% is lost in the drivetrain, we can assume 138 HP (104 KW) and 227 FT/LB (307 NM) at the crank.
Is this result at the monitor? If so there is no improvement with supercharged
What kind of blower die you use?
The rod went out same thing happened with mine
When yours went out was it a bent rod a or a trashed bearing?
@@gamma1952000 broken rod that broken the crankshaft too and warped the block
how's the truck running today any problems
Slow as fuck
isnt having a supercharger on a diesel kinda redundant
It still adds power though.
Z-Trip true but there’s no need
@@its_robbietime1333 Well I own a naturally aspirated diesel myself and trust me, you're gonna want some form of forced induction.
@@z-trip5457 It depends on the car. If it is a Mercedes Bemz 190D 72 diesel horses are plenty, it is a light car after all. Of course if it is full size Pickup truck or SUV, some sort of poweradder is a good idea. (turbo, blower or Nitrous)
@@danishghostrider 2.6 ton hunk of steel powered by a 2.3 na diesel...it's not fast.
The instant torque that supercharger provides probably makes towing heavy loads a lot easier.
Qwantuz hp? ?
What did it make?
Do you have pictures of your setup? Which Roots blower did you use? I tried your link but it wouldnt open.
0-60 in 10 secs ?
Have you turned up fuel delivery?
What kind of mileage u getting now with the blower
Thanks for comments. The cause was a bent #8 rod and piston pieces down at the pan. Who knows what the root cause is. Pic of the rod behind the link. www.dropbox.com/s/ypr6bcgs63yo6jp/65dsl-rod.jpg?dl=0
How much boost did you run?
Would love to see another post of your pictures if you have them. My 6.5 is making the exact same noise and i fear i also a bent rod.
herrlicher Sound 😍😍😍😍
You need to tune that man it can make more power and make it more fun
aidan banner can’t tune 6.2s they’re not computer controlled
Yeah, the only few things you can really do are put ARP head studs and girdles to stop the poor thing from exploding at anything more than 12psi of boost, lol... some better injectors, electronic lift pump, egr delete and turn up the fuel delivery on the distribution pump about a quarter turn for your boost (turbo or supercharger). I wanna say the charger doesn’t do too much better than the turbo besides less lag for your boost, but either way a diesel always love more air
@@papadickhead423 all you have to do is turn up the injector pump
@@papadickhead423 engine tuning existed before engines became computerised ;)
Donovan M. Boost is boost and cooler air from a supercharger
That sounds like a belt
Bella per l'Italia
Spun rod bearing
Not a lot of lag! I like it ! Even better if u get a water intercooler
Do u know you have a chevy caprice hood ornament?
Going by those numbers on the computer screen, it looks like it made 123 peak kw and peak 370 Nm which equals about 165 horsepower and 273 ft lb pounds at the wheels. Not bad
Stock turbocharged 6.5s make about 190. This engine makes 165 at the wheels, which is definately more than 190 at the crank. Very cool
not bad? Thats slow af, w210 turbodiesel make more hp and torque stock....
@@Mr.Everything___ I don't know what sort of engine a W210 is, but it's definitely not what's in the video which is a Detroit 6.2 liter diesel. Read up on them, those are definitely pretty good numbers for this engine
@@norgeek OM606 makes close to 200whp and 280wtq, inline 6 turbodiesel, with larger turbo, 500+whp with factory internals...
@@Mr.Everything___ fascinating - remind me again how that's relevant when it comes to Detroit 6.2 performance?
YOU DONT PUT A SUPERCHARGER ON A DIESEL
yeah you do
why not put a super charger on Diesel?
It will be done
I'd say Mr Detroit diesel would disagree with you!
@@erinamorgan2823 yea, a Detroit won't run without them. A blower is accidentally the same thing.
Hey man, I'm getting ready to drop a 6.2 into a firebird of mine. If you don't mind I'd like to pick your brain for some info. What size pulley did you use? Did you intercool? Is it still holding up pretty well?
Did you finish the firebird?
@@olddieselguy1 Nope, now i have 3 unfinished projects.
@@Sams88990 get going man, life is short finish those projects
Qwantuz hp? ?
Finish yet??
Bunch of noise...
what was the horse power and torq?
let me take it down the drag strip ill tell ya if its powerful!!
GT20Modding it's not
These engines weren’t meant to be fast. They were designed for fuel economy and for towing. Lots of low end torque.
@@ju99al041ife 6.2 litres doesnt sound very economical though.
Z-Trip I have a 83 suburban with a 6.2 diesel. It will get 18-23 mpg depending on how I drive it. Not bad at all for a 37 yo 7000 LB MONSTER.
@@z-trip5457 I have a cucv army truck with a 6.2. I daily drive all week and only put about 7 gallons in her.
So what did it make?
What did you get the blower off of I've been wanting to do this to my 6.2
The blower is from a V8 Jaguar. Eaton M112. Second hand relatively cheap, here in Europe. you can read the whole project www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-gm-diesel-engines/21-6-5l-diesel-engine/470-6-5-6-2-high-performance-engine-modifications/834001-project-supercharged-6-2-a.html
Nice try to be Emd GP38-2 engine.
CineRaphael sounds nothing like it
did't try to be anything.. this is just a fun project and everyday torque. thanks for the comment though
I've got a stock 6.2 in a 1 ton GMC 4x4 dump. Truck already weighs 8000 lbs empty. Your truck makes mine look like a lead sled. Good job - it sounds good and looks fun.
Thanks for your supportive comment. I am pleased with the result. The blower has been there over a year, daily drivin, no probs whatsoever. Would not turn back.
@@pocale and its still a turd
It seems like it still has no power
correct
Juho K did you notice any power deference
Relatively big difference. Around 2000rpm there must be instant ~400ftlbs (/550Nm) now. Which makes drive around corners easy. However, the torque curve drops quickly past 2500rpm, so the engine would never generate big packs of horses. The truck would benefit a bigger plunger injection pump, since now the injection screw is already turned all the way, and still no black smoke in any situation. I guess an easy +50hp potential there. Back to your doubts, as i understand it: yes, you could do bigger horse numbers easier than with 6.2dsl but it is still lots of fun plus economical to drive.
Hey, I'm planning to buy a Square Body Suburban and I'm not sure, which pros and cons the different engines have. The only one in good condition here has the 6.2L Diesel engine and an automatic transmission from the mid '80s. So not the TH700. Do you have any tips?
That's way cool, how did you make the transition from the supercharger to the intake?
Why not just stick with the GM-X turbos off the 6.5 turbo. Don't get me wrong the supercharger set up is cool but I bet it was costly.
turbos are too common, seen, and this was a learning process to me. the cost of the low-mileage 2nd hand blower was about equal to a turbo.
@@pocale what milage did you get with this?
can you do a video on what it all looks like under the hood and did you just crank up the injection pump or did you size up the injectors
the whole project is written and pictured at the dieselplace.com on the link mentioned. the stock injection pump delivery is turned all the way to the stop (3/4) turns. However, the lack of fuel definately is the #1 bottleneck here. Injectors are a new set of stock 6.2's www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-gm-diesel-engines/21-6-5l-diesel-engine/470-6-5-6-2-high-performance-engine-modifications/834001-project-supercharged-6-2-a.html
