Why Ons Jabeur's Drop Shot can Net her a Slam
Why Ons Jabeur's drop shot can net her a Slam.
Tennis is constantly evolving. And while the drop shot has existed forever, it may be more relevant than ever.
If we're entering a drop shot boom, then Ons Jabeur is the trailblazer. For Ons Jabeur, the drop shot is not an auxiliary tool or a changeup surprise tactic; it is a core weapon. In the last year, Jabeur's drop shot rate has been about five times the tour average.
So why does Ons Jabeur hit so many drop shots, and how does she get away with it?

Why Tennis Should Adopt Golf's Tour Card System
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
Why tennis should adopt golf's Tour Card system. For years, one tennis debate has raged on - one that feels nowhere close to a viable solution. The length of the tennis season. But is it too narrow to look at the calendar in isolation? Are there, instead, more significant issues with the very essence of the tennis ecosystem? What if tennis could take greater control of different tiers of events...

How Parenthood Impacts Tennis' Media Narratives For most, the decision to become a parent is life-altering, but how does this decision change the professional tennis player's identity and media narrative? What is its impact on player performance? Will the new familial responsibility distract tennis players from training and playing optimally, or will the new role give them a newfound confidence...
Why Taylor Fritz is a Talent Maximiser

God did not gift Taylor Fritz with freak athleticism. 'Fluid' or 'explosive' are not words that come to mind when watching Fritz move around a tennis court - relative to his elite professional peers. The shortcomings in Fritz's movement would make it impossible for him to have a high success rate in points when he had to play defence. So he had to find a way to take his movement out of the equa...

Alcaraz v FAA: Are Tennis Prodigies Getting Older? Prodigies are a source of continuous debate among tennis fans. Who has lived up to their potential, and who has fallen short? Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz exemplify the prodigy debate perfectly. The two young star...
How Uncle Toni Can Improve Felix Auger Aliassime's Game
Переглядів 23 тис.Рік тому
The serve of Felix Auger-Aliassime is difficult to assess using a blanket statement. The first delivery might be his greatest weapon. It's a top-10 first serve in the world, producing aces at a clip that ranks 7th-best among Top-50 players in 2022. But while the first serve has propelled FAA to success, the reality is not as favourable when it misses. On the ATP's stats leaderboard, FAA's point...
What's Cramping Holger Rune's Game?

Holger Rune has built an impressively polished all-court game before his 20th birthday. He’s equally strong on his forehand and backhand, with no apparent shortcomings in power or speed, great touch and a highly competitive attitude. Is Pickleball a Threat to Tennis? During a five-year span, from 2016 to 2021, Pickleball participation in the USA nearly doubled from 2.5million to 4.8million. Laver Cup: The True Cost of Tennis

Laver Cup: The True Cost of Tennis Tennis has long suffered from an image problem. Detractors claim it is a snooty, upper-class sport that is inaccessible to large parts of society. Although I started playing tennis in the 1970s, I rather thought that Laver could never hold up to the players of today. But through the magic of UA-cam I have been able to watch some of Rod’s matches. He is truly a remarkable, uncommonly beautiful tennis player. If he came up today, he’d still be the best.

Kudos to Chang! He improvised and Lendl did not adapt. The moonballs confused and frustrated Lendl---you could never do that to a guy like Nadal, he would run around the moonballs and smash forehand winners down the lines, make you run from side to side and burn you out. All Chang wanted was for Lendl to return the moonballs exactly like he did, right back to him. Brilliant.

Why was Lendl complaining about Chang pulling up so close to the service line at the end on match point? He can stand where ever he wants. He should have just blasted it passed him. I couldn't figure out what Ivan's point was there at the end complaining.

Nice analysis - really interesting re the backhand backspin! Norrie's backhand is not the prettiest to watch as it looks tight and uncomfortable, but it seems to be effective and I enjoy the variety his style brings to the game. It's really contrasted to his forehand which is super loose! Awesome player

In front of our screens we are all experts and better than these extraordinary people, but I always wondered why people are so keen in judging Martina in RG 1999? What do we know of the pressure she felt? She was 18…personally I have taken tons of bad decisions way after that age. In a coverage from Swiss TV (she as much more popular abroad than in Switzerland) they portrayed her she said she did a mistake during that Final. Everyone was expecting her to win and she played incredible during the whole tournament, I just think we have no idea of what she might have felt.

Good data about the actual tennis, but I got a bit sick of the class-based analysis. Tennis was from the beginning a middle-class game, excepting perhaps Gottfried, Baron von Cramm ;-), but it is certainly true that for a period, and too long a period, it got into the hands of quite a small number of millionaires, one or two per national tennis association. Jack Kramer called out this system as evil, and he was perfectly correct ... and I speak as the grand-nephew of one of those millionaires.

The stars aligned for Chang in that tournament to allow him to win the tournament. Lendl beat himself in this match. Chang's cramps threw Lendl off and his level of play really dropped off. He just couldn't figure out how to adjust. Chang was fast and chased down a lot of balls which was his strength, but being on clay helped that a lot. Clay also didn't suit Edberg's game at all so Chang got balls back that he wouldn't have on other surfaces.

Rod Laver is the only GOAT. Such a complete player and a complete gentleman. Roger is right behind him, then Bjorn. Had Bjorn not retired at 26 and played into his early 30's, he may have 20+ Grand Slams. Obviously, Rod's record as an amateur and pro are untouchable.

Are you delusional, dude? Roger is right behind him?! really?! Roger is probably 4th because he is definitely not better than Djokovic or Nadal. If Roger was really behind Rod Laver as a complete player, he should have beaten Nadal at least once at Roland Garros, but that did not happen. Novak did it and beat Nadal at Roland Garros, just as Nadal beat Roger at Wimbledon. Roger Federer is No. 3 behind Djoko and Nadal
