Could you make another video on what the best how to draw comic books are? Loved your last one and was able to find the brutes and babes one.
Absolutely! I’m not sure when I’ll be able to do it because I have such a backlog. I can make recommendations if you’d like via comments but if you want to see them before you take my word for it and purchase them I completely understand. I definitely will in the near future maybe a week or two will make a video on the books I used to learn how to draw comics.
i also wish they still did these. i found a Rough Cut Thor 1(late 90's) in a bargain bin and didn't reall know what it was. i was really happy when i gave it a look. JRJR pencils are a lot of fun to look at and tempting to break out some pens and try inking on the page.
I love JRJR pencils as well. I’m not sure why so many people crap on him his work is brilliant in my opinion. It’s so fun to look at the rawest form of comics because you learn so much from it.
Just got this bad mf
Hell yeah! It’s great seeing that the BIZ has still got it.
@@rowleyzero I picked a hell of a time to get back into hardcore comics after years of being away but I'm back like a bat outta hell just in time for Brother Biz n Brother Danzig together again doesn't get more badass than these 2
If I were to give any aspiring comic book one bit of advice it would be to draw from life including life drawing classes.
Great advice! I definitely agree with this.
that jack hamm head and figure book was my first
It’s one of my favorites. So much useful information that I still reference to this day from time to time.I think it was my second book behind how to draw comics the marvel way.
great book review!! got a cool random recommendation for you since you like detailed anatomy: Violator Origins #2 it's 40 pages of awesomeness!!!
I'll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation.
Awesome, I don't have this book yet so great to see it. Love The Biz!
Any idea where I can find this? I know you’re from the old Kayfabe legion like me lol so when I saw this, I knew i had to have it. Amazon is a no-go, and eBay has pretty expensive ones too. I know I’ll never find it locally because we don’t even have comic shops within 100 miles here. Good ol’ Appalachia.
I got mine on eBay and I managed to snag it for a decent price but I’m talking maybe double cover price so not very cheap. Unfortunately 2000 ad keeps stuff like this out of print for a bit. “Fingers crossed” they reprint it in the future hopefully in a larger format. Sorry I don’t have a better answer I wish I did. It’s just one of those books where you have to get lucky and hope that someone is selling their collection for money reasons at this point sadly.
Bisley really flew out of the gate with this. Just an astonishing debut. This and Horned God are his masterpieces. 2000ad has delivered so may classics it can be hard to know where to start. I'd recommend Bad Company, Strontium Dog, Rogue Trooper, Slaine (the early stories) and Nemesis, to start - black and white outlaw awesomeness!
Thank you for the recommendations I will definitely check them out! Biz is a master no question about it. The 2000 ad fellas were all brilliant artists.
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed thanks for the feedback!
Simon Bisley is one of the legendary drawing illustrators. He even drew the cover art work 🖋️🖊️✏️🖍️ for the Amiga game GODS from The BitMap Brothers. And as i remember correctly, he also drew a cover art work 🖋️🖊️✏️🖍️ for one of Danzig's studio albums. 😺👍
I agree! Bisley is one of the best to do it. I love his work! His artwork is so brilliant that it doesn’t shock me that his talents have spread beyond just comics.
Bizleys first professional work. Each time you see a title that's a week not a month. I'm surprised you are not aware of Brian Bolland , Kevin O'Neill ,Dave Gibbons,Brian Talbot, Steve Dylan , Glen Fabry, Alan Davis to name just a few.
I know a few of the 2000 ad guys like Gibson McMahon and a lot of the other guys you mentioned. Bisley’s work is closer to my era of reading and looking at comics so I tend to cover his stuff more. I have done videos on 2000 ad single issues and plan to do more in the future.
Simon Bisley is one of the GOATS
Yeah he is!
ABC warriors was the one that got me into bizley. Extraordinary work. The most detail ive ever seen, amazing a brit could do this in a USA dominated market.
I’m shocked these comics weren’t more popular in the American market. The more I learn about comics that weren’t made in the states I become less impressed by our offerings. Sure the Kirby era can’t be touched but the 80’s and 90’s American offerings in my opinion are less interesting.
@@rowleyzero I really liked some American artists in the 80s too, art adams, walt simonson, and after all America gave the world the medium but there is a difference with the non usa artists, bizley, barry smith, moebius etc a different style but it all adds to the comic culture in the end, win win!

Points to the picture with the Emperor on the golden throne ... "There is a little story behind that" :D made my day
Just a very minor one with like 52 books lol :)
Gem of a book. Hope an international edition gets reprinted.
They need to do a kickstarter or something stat!
@rowleyzero If that happens then it will undoubtedly get overwhelming support.
sounds like an awesome series to read. gonna look em up
I would definitely suggest Horus heresy if you do. I read the first three so far and they’re dynamite in my opinion.
Yesssss warhammer 40k. The art for it is sooo good
I agree 💯 percent
I have the original series. Do they explain why it took forever to reprint it?
@@vonVile no they don’t say which is weird. I remember find out about quite a while ago and being shocked how expensive the collected version was but the single issues were rather inexpensive. I’m happy they reprinted it with some extras the wait was a bit insane but worth it! In my opinion.
So cool, I LOVE this book, my fave Batman story. I own a prelim page from this, got a video of it on my channel if you want to see, it the one from @12:51 . Where they climb up the vehicle. Awesome, didn't know about this reprint.
@@MattCelf oh wow that’s really cool! I’m definitely going to check that out now! Yeah this book was beautifully done. A real treat for the fan of art and Batman.
@@rowleyzero for sure, great story, drawing and colouring. Def a real treat.
Holy! 🔥 thanks for sharing!👍
Thanks for commenting and watching!
By any chance, in future vids could you include the name and author in the description? Found English vol 1 on ebay for 100 USD which is expensive but not the worst.
I absolutely can! I apologize for not doing so. I will make sure to put that information in every video going forward. Thank you so much for the feedback!
First off I enjoy a lot of your vids. 😀I respect that you’re focusing on the artwork as it’s what you seem to know well. However, if you could possibly add just a little more info, maybe about the storyline? some history of the characters? the reception of the book by the public? etc. it would give the vids a broader appeal to viewers who are not themselves entirely focused on the art.
@@DFunct905 I plan to hopefully start making more in depth videos about stories and background of certain comics and creators in the future. I completely agree with you that it will certainly spread interest to others that aren’t necessarily there just for the art. So I certainly plan on it at some point hopefully sooner than later. I appreciate the feedback! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment on the video with feedback. I ALWAYS love getting any kind of feedback.
@@DFunct905 also thank you so much for the kind words about the video as well.
Looking forward to a deep dive, I could watch 45 mins of this. Would love to get a copy but a quick search turned up nothing.
@@artpipe the title of the book is Shion: Blade Of The Minstrel. One volume was printed in English by Viz I believe but it’s pretty expensive. I got mine from Japan Book Hunter and it was pricey only because of shipping. I can definitely do a deeper dive when it comes to the art work at some point in the near future. Might do a live stream perhaps doing a deeper dive and archiving it for future viewing if some can’t make the live stream.
Awesome video bro! I love the improved quality on your video! It’s a massive visual upgrade.
Yeah very nice! Apart from Akira i generally don't get on with manga but this stuff beautiful. Definitely inspired by European comic art. Looks like he/she got a bit tired towards the end.
that's a gem. looks similar to not only Berserk but also the Bastard!! manga. there are also some beautiful moments in Berserk as well. i like that combination of horror and beauty in art and fiction.
I don’t believe I have heard of the Bastard. I’m definitely going to check it out now! I guess you’re right there are some really beautiful moments in berserk now that I think about it. I think it’s time for a berserk re read lol.
@@rowleyzero "Bastard!!" by Kazushi Hagiwara some of those moments that come to mind are: 1) Guts and Caska spending time together before the eclipse 2) Guts and Schierke talk on the beach, a very picturesque scene. the wind causes Schierke's hat to fall. Guts picks it up and puts it on her head. A very human moment. Berserk relies on moments like these for emotional connections between characters. i want to write a comic too so I'm taking notes haha 3) Apostles or demons who are loyal to Griffith respectfully bow down to him and even collaborate with human soldiers later on
I gotta say, I admire your determination and resolved to wait until you have all five volumes of Den to start reading it. I've been getting these this year and have torn through the first three volumes multiple times and am so hungry for the last two. I do think it's important to go into reading them with managed expectations. Tight plotting and deep characterization are not what Corben is going for. That's not to say that the story and the characters are bad, because they're not. Exploring this world is an absolute blast and a treat, but Corben by his own words is not interested in spelling things out. He really loves to throw the audience in there and expect them to keep up and to be okay with a lot of things not being explained. I liken Den to how it must have felt to see Star Wars in 1977 or, more recently, to movies likes Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa. You're given a fully realized world but the creator is not interested in explaining every nook and cranny. The best way to approach Den, I think, is to relish in every strange discovery found at the flip of a page. I also have been reading (and re-reading) these before I go to bed at night because they have a dreamlike quality to them that really sets my imagination going as I'm trying to drift off to sleep. I genuinely think of Den as a bed time story... just one for grown-ups that's full of gorgeous, muscly nude bodies, shocking violence, outstanding monsters and lots and lots of pulpy weirdness. I hope you have a fantastic time sitting down with the entire tale come 2025 when the final volume arrives.
Thank you for this comment I really appreciate it. I’m the type of person who hates waiting to read the entirety of something. I’m working on this problem but lol not doing so well. I’m also worried that I may read a few volumes and dark horse will either delay them or perhaps not even release them. I mean I’m kinda in deep at this point but ehhh lol. Thanks again comments like this are ones that I really appreciate. It means a lot that you take the time to not only watch but interact.
@ it seems like at this point, they’ll have all five out in no time. The first four are ALL out there now. Sir, you are more than welcome! No one will ever have to twist my arm to get me to talk all day about comics, especially the ones that are outside of the typical “superhero” stuff. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, it’s just my heart is way more into the creator owned side of things.
awesome showcase. love the commentary. i like you pointing out art that requires work to create. I don't know how difficult it is to draw like BWS. thanks bro.
No problem! Thank you.
Big fan now. thanks to you.
Glad to hear your new found appreciation for an artist as brilliant as Corben. That’s the goal of this channel and I’m very happy to hear that I am accomplishing that goal.
thank you for the video. nice art work.
No problem! Corben is one of the greats for sure. Thank you so much for watching!
Jacks art is fantastic. thank you. looking forward to see more of him. hopefully you can point out details of his art as well.
Thank you kindly! I will definitely work on delving deeper into his work in a future video because I adore his work.
thanks for the video. very fun to watch. I am enjoying the artwork. helps i have a large screen tv.
