Oil Prices Steady, Fed Cuts Rates Amid Inflation Woes
Oil prices are hanging out at $70 a barrel. The stock market took a breather today with a decent sell of as the Fed awkwardly cut rates while essentially saying they should not be cutting rates.
The Federal Reserve lowered interest rates a quarter point and the ten year yield ratcheted higher in response, showing the stock market is pushing back on the Fed and saying that the Fed should not be cutting rates.
The meeting was uncomfortable as Powell said there would be less cuts next year and it would take until 2027 to get inflation down to 2 percent and that consumers are still feeling the pains of inflation. So why are you cutting rates now? If the market is pushing back on you, driving mortgage rates up, not down, shouldn’t you pay attention?
Oil prices are muted looking at healthy supply and unhealthy global demand as negative geopolitics, specifically politics in France and Germany and Korea, weigh on economics and sentiment.
Optimism in U.S. energy and less regulations under Trump are positive but significant questions remain on the global economy and global economic health and trajectory of oil prices in 2025.
I cover all of this and more in a complete market run down in the introduction to episode 122 of the PetroNerds podcast which will drop this week, Friday December 20th! This is the panel discussion with Leen Weijers, VP of Firld Engineering Liberty Energy and Brenton Cheeseman VP of North America NCS Multistage at the Denver Earth Resources Library on frac, completions, efficiencies, longer laterals, and the state of the U.S. service sector.
The latest PetroNerds podcast, episode 121, with Chris Wright, and myself, moderated by Fmr. Rep. Jason Isaac and the American Energy Institute is a show stopper folks! Catch up now!

It is days before the highly contested U.S. election and oil prices are flagging global economic warning signs while the 10 year yeild is ratcheting up and pushing the 30 mortgage rate above 7 percent, again. I want to say this in the most respectful way possible. Your positions are not informed by our actual energy needs, but oil and gas lobbyists. Ironic you say biden shills for green energy when thats exactly what your doing for oil and gas. China is kicking our ass in renewable energy infrastructure. So it seems you seem eagar to give the enemies of america competive advantage over us in the future. And all for the short term profits of oil and gas companies.

In addition to the cost of building and retaining redundent power generation to cover the intermittency, irregularity and seasonality of wind and solar power generation, and storage, add the high cost of new transmission lines to move the electricity from wind farms to the grid. Also, the permitting time required to construct the transmission line infrastructure.

If I could ask a favor could you slow it down a bit for me next time? You know what you want to say but seem to be in a hurry to say it. Imagine those viewers who don't know what you're going to say. We need to parse this opinion/data/info. Also never a good idea to film directly into the sun even when it's setting and very pretty. Just some bitching from your viewers is all. Please don't be deflated, I look forward to what you have to say, and I want you to be the best PetroNerd you can be. Next video you should question if an 800K+ downward revision to jobs created numbers is borderline malfeasance.

Geopolitically I think this is way off. The Ukraine war is effectively over and has been for the last 12 months. The Russians have outproduced and outperformed NATO in every respect (e.g. US have had to go begging to the Japanese and South Koreans for shells and weapons). The MSM in the West might be reporting otherwise but the Russians have effectively destroyed the Ukrainian military in the last few months. They've stepped up their bombing and missile attacks as they prepare for an eventual push once the ground hardens. The US have confused caution and patience for lack of energy on the Russians part. Unfortunately, an entire generation of young Ukrainians have been sacrificed in a US proxy war. Iran and the US have clearly stated - and shown - neither side want to escalate and you're seeing this in the oil markets as fear leaves them - in fairness this is with hindsight which wasn't available at the time of the talk. Israel might want a more involved US but the Biden administration has made it clear they want to stay at arms length. At the moment there is a bit of phony war going on the Middle East. Unfortunately, the innocent people of Israel and Palestine are caught up in it.

Rationing export ... leaves us with more in the future for US use ...

  • @shanewilson2484
    @shanewilson2484 9 місяців тому

Reducing export of gas will mean cheaper nat gas for Americans which is good in the short term for Biden. Biden was an idiot for not filling the strategic reserve to the brim during the last year of covid for release in the months before the election. Biden was also an idiot for not kissing Saudi ass like Trump did. So now the Saudis want Trump and are keeping oil prices high by cutting production to hurt the American consumer and make Trump's election more likely. The Saudis gave Trump's son-in-law a $2 billion business deal, and the Saudis formed a golf tour so they can put money in Trump's pocket by holding tournaments at his golf courses ... and of course the Saudis booked a lot of rooms at Trumps Washington DC hotel. They know Trump will have their back whenever they need him. It is hard to believe that Biden is such an idiot that he doesn't kiss Saudi ass, but there it is, Biden is an idiot. PetroNerd knows this but has decided to go along to get along and pretend that the Emperor has clothes.

Trisha, thank you for doing these podcasts. I would love to here your thoughts on the impact something ive noticed here is the Permian. I should say, i wrench on pipes and come from the northeast, but travel to different basins for work. When i was in the Permian in 2018-2019 amd we'd be driving out to Pacos before daylight, we cpuld look across the oil patch and it was like a candlelight vigil out there. So many flares. Im out here now, and its for the most part dark out there now. They harnessed that waste. Compression stations have sprung up all over. I'm wondering what the impact of that is. Was that a windfall of low hanging fruit on the supply side for gas during that time period and now things get tighter? Again, I'm asking from the cab of an F350 with a bunch of tools in the back, so i dont even know if thats a good question, but just something I've noticed. Thank you

According to the thermometer records from 1880 to 2020 of 140 years the temperature rose by 0.8 C. Of that, during the first 70 years, the temperature rose by about 0.45 C. Then from 1950 there was a further increase of 0.35 C. The CO2 level only increased by about 18 ppm during 1880 till 1950. But rose by a further 100ppm till 2020. If CO2 was the cause then the temperature should have risen by 2.5 C in the last 70 years . But it did not. So CO2 was at most a minor cause of the temperature rise.

“The temperature cooled some from 1940 to 1970”. Yeah it sure did, and you know why? Because that’s when we were building coal fired power plants. And what happens when you burn coal? You get SO2 in the atmosphere which has a COOLING effect. Where is the most coal burned today? Eastern US, East China and India. And where have summer temperatures risen the least since 1950? If your answer is Eastern US, East China and India, give yourself a gold star.

With all due respect, our spending problems didn't start with the Biden administration. The Trump administration spent money like it was going out pf style too. In fact ALL administrations throughout the 21st century have overspent. We have not ran a surplus since 2001. We have not been debt free since 1835. People need to stop playing politics and start understanding that the red team and the blue team are two sides of the same coin. Also, invest in a better camera. 240p will 100% hold you back.

wow. Thx for the info! I don't see how modern civilization can exist without oil and gas. Man made global warming is a political construct. Also, global warming is much preferred to global cooling (i.e. can you imagine a continental ice sheet encroaching on NYC, Baltimore and Chicago? Talk about an environmental catastrophe!).
