Don't open your hand when you rotate the stick - that's baton twirling, not Escrima. The problem with majorette-style twirling is if you actually hit anything, there's insufficient strength in just your thumb and forefinger to keep hold of the stick and you'll drop it - fight over. Ensure your grip is closed all the way through the rotation, don't open your hand to just the thumb and forefinger when you rotate - this is difficult at first, particularly if you've built up muscle memory of baton twirling. Your grip is too far up the stick - the short end is like the pommel of a Filipino blade, which is much shorter than a fist length. You're robbing yourself of cutting/hitting length and changing the dynamic of the stick. Stance - you're striking with your right hand from the right, but with your left leg forward so your torso is face-on exposed to incoming stabs and strikes, and if you use a long "Tabas" strike, you will cut your left leg at the end. Instead, advance the leg on the side that you are striking, as it turns your torso away from incoming stabs, and lets you gain reach and keep distance, whilst letting your "living hand" cover your torso. So as you strike from the right, step forward with the right, then switch feet to the left as you follow up with the strike chambered on the left. Tip : when you're practising your basic cuts, particularly at beginner level, use "Tabas" long, circular cuts rather than short "Taga" hacks.

Sir you have a great way of teaching. You definitely need to continue to post new videos. Some people trying to teach end up primarily showing how fast or how skilled they are. You go at a great pace for someone to learn.

One reocurring problem with variants of tma is that in demos, their version of a hook or "roundhouse punch" is always really bad and unrealistic. Not saying ur stuff is ineffective. just saying it could be tidied up a bit 👍

I tend to agree, one of the reasons we see this happen is because the more distance between "attacker" and 'defender" is that it's easy to see the technique unobstructed. I've been working on some ways to help make the demo's closer to live and clear through creative camera angles, ect. Then of course we have to keep practicing to replace old habits. Thank-you for the respectful feedback :)

reaching is a good way to lose a hand, also a good way to lose that stick is to continue to open your fingers up while you are doing that Arco (that rolling motion). I see that a lot, don't mean to be a negative ninny but it is a pet peeve of mine. I have been told to keep it to myself, especially when I comment on you tube. Sinawalli are wonderful training tools, I enjoy them.

Thanks brother. I was pretty beat putting this together for our kids curriculum. It's a bad habit of having the hand float while talking. Interesting for the Acro. I've seen both hands tight and hands loose to build up wrist flexibility. Is there a reason you'd do it? I can't imagine a stick flying from a mobility drill? -magill

@@actionMtLaurel again hope I wasn't being considered mean, I know how comments can, in many ways, sound rude and mean. Not intended to be that way.

@@actionMtLaurel opening your fingers while you twirl the stick, if your opponent notices that, a very light tap at the right moment and that stick will fly from your hands. Lose control even for a split second and you lose advantage. Sure, it doesn't mean anything for those who haven't and never will train in a more real manner, which is most. Again, just a pet peeve of mine.
