the gods left the light on

As a little break after Joys first day of her TDI sidemount training we decided to make a little cavern tour to have time to practice just diving in sidemount configuration instead of just adding skill after skill. Luckily the mayan gods decided to leave the light on for us and a divine light was shining into the cavern area. Because we had two instructors available we could even capture the di...

During this course you learn basically all fundamentals a cave diver needs to know: How to cope with several very unpleasant situations including loosing your line and/or partner, several kinds of gas supply failures and a lot of 0 viz szenarios of course. And in the end it gives you the opportunity to do som...
a bizarre wonderland

at the edge of the mayan underworld caverns are a unique environment. In this case we can see bizarre dissolution formations, a halocline, dripstone formations that have been broken long time ago with newer ones forming on top of them and huge amounts of fossils that are there since 65 million years reminding us of the reef the whole Yucatan peninsula once was.

if not disturbed by water movement rotting organic matter can create a sulfur clowd like this one. Spooky moments 30m under the mayan jungle.

a paradise in the mangroves
Переглядів 698 років тому
a real treasure of nature. Mangroves are one of the most precious environments along the coastline, many fish grow up between the roots, birds live and nest in the trees and even humans find a little piece of paradise to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. This little piece of paradise is located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum and called Casa Cenote/ Cenote Manatee.

Hi, how did this go? I've just done the same to mine and I want to know if it's safe. Thank you

its not secure. bungee can catch the pin indents ang release the pin.

There is no redundancy here... If the 1st watch pin fails, then nothing is securing the DC to the wrist. Off it goes as a sacrifice to Neptune...

Which is just like a regular watch strap, no?

@@argemable correct. But at least with a regular watch strap you can attach a lanyard to the strap so there's a chance not to lose the DC. I nearly lost one using this method where one of the strap pins popped and the DC started off for the depths. Luckily we were on a 10m shelf in clear water so it was able to be spotted. There is a better way to attach the bungee that gives redundancy if one pin pops. IMHO this is less safe than using the original strap, as it adds additional pressure on the pins that wouldn't be there with the OEM strap.
