ο Μαρλον ηταν το πιο ταλαντουχο και πιο ομορφο ατομο που πατησε στη γη
When I read this poem I took it as a eulogy for a lover. He writes WE so the end of roving might come from either partner.. The repeated "be still", words to comfort someone passing. The second stanza is a musing lament on mortality, his own and this partner's and all of us.
A greatly helping video! You explained it really well man! It helped a lot❤❤
14:36 How can we compare Blanche's state of mind in Sc 3 when Stella cautions her, "Hey Blanche, you're standing in the light."
Interesting point/quotation. This is the part when she is getting changed so I think Stella is merely pointing out that the males can see her. Perhaps also she is aware of Blanche's aversion to 'harsh light' but I think it is more the former. Blanche is definitely acting in a semi-flirtatious demeanour here though. This is matched by the 'girlish laugher' her and Stella share.
@@BWOEnglishLiterature I did just a quick Google - another person notes that in this moment, Blanche is indeed flirting, but the light will only outline her body - not showing the "true Blanche." So, we're still within her realm of the magical impressions she hopes to offer. In the film, Blanche is facing the lit room of poker-playing men, she had just met Mitch and is already 'shopping' for a possible beau.
Well, if it is just her silhouette on view she would undoubtedly feel more comfortable. She is clearly aware of her age and her fleeting beauty but spends a lot of time stressing her 'figure' that she has maintained since Stella left Belle Reve. Also, if you are wanting a good critical overview of the play look up in Google: Flecia Hardison Londre: Streetcar Running Fifty Years. You will find a pdf there. It is concise, yet critical.
@@BWOEnglishLiterature Thank you! ☮
I love love LOVE the work you've done and shared with us! I'm not a student - just a fan of the play and film. I love tthe thought-provoking details you share, - Happy subscriber! :)
That makes you a student of the play in my book. Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it!
Hi! Can you do a character analysis on Stanley and Blanche if possible?
I will try to. Blanch is such a complex character that I can only really deal with chunks. Otherwise it would be like a 2hr video.
@@BWOEnglishLiterature I'm also looking forward to it. Your work is astounding. Even so far, you've shown how Stanley (an American of Polish descent - by what? - one generation?) stands his ground (American ground! He fought for it in the military) - what's his is his (he works hard for it by the sweat of his brow,) - and he doesn't like to get swindled. Neither does he want his best friend to get swindled. He is brutally honest and infects Mitch with the same brutality. Stanley rips the blinders off Stella's eyes. He rips the blinders from the eyes of Mitch. And he rips Blanche (The South) down from her formerly rightful place on "those columns," in a criminal act against a thing threatening his staunch position (The North.) I could go on and on... :)
I have just done a specific video on the symbolic importance of the paper lantern here: ua-cam.com/video/K6FNfEI2aMo/v-deo.html
Magnífico, muchísimas gracias ❤👏
thank you
This video is SOOO Helpful, I have been trying to find some videos on streetcar for so long and have finally found a really good one, THANK YOU!

Great topic. More Byron's poems if you can!!!
i am no longer an english student, i study theatre. However sometimes i study random texts memorise quotes and watch revision videos. kinda like a rescued marooned surviver sleeping on the floor for comfort.
Could you do some predictions for all the literature questions??
hello if you are really stuck which could come up here are some characters which could come up The Nurse -More like a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet. She tells Juliet that Romeo is “a Montague” but doesn’t put her off him. Arranges the marriage with Romeo. Tells Juliet to marry Paris when there seems no choice. Genuinely upset when she finds Juliet’s “dead” body. Friar Lawrence -Father figure to Romeo, giving advice. Marries Romeo and Juliet. Knows exactly what is happening but can’t stop it. Good with herbs and gives Juliet the poison. Runs away from Juliet in the tomb at the end. Lord Capulet -Keen to get involved in the fight in Act 1 Scene 1. Protective of marrying Juliet to the right person. Loses his temper with Tybalt at the Ball. Loses his temper with Juliet when she says “no” to him over Paris. Makes the first move to reconcile with Lord Montague at the end. some themes Family -The feud between the Montagues and Capulets causes a lot of tension and trouble. Romeo has more freedom than Juliet. Juliet is torn between her happiness and her family duty. Juliet ultimately chooses her husband over her family. Romeo says he will give up his name for her (is he just saying that?) Loyalty -The servants start a fight even though it’s nothing to do with them. Benvolio wants to find out why Romeo is sad. Tybalt defends his family against Romeo gatecrashing the Ball. Mercutio sticks up for Romeo against Tybalt. Juliet defends Romeo in front of the Nurse after Tybalt dies. Destiny / Fate -The Prologue tells us that Romeo & Juliet are doomed to die. Lots of references to graves and death - we never forget what’s coming. Something bad happens straight after something good. Everything Friar Lawrence tries backfires - they can’t escape what’s coming. Romeo blames fate for what’s happened (not himself). sorry about this long comment but hope it helps
Very detailed, thanks
Great topic for Lord Byron
Thank you! I realized watching this video lecture how much I've missed not studying the liberal arts in college. I studied accounting, business and law. My wife of 38+ years studied liberal arts and often wonders how I ever earned college degree and doctorate without any liberal arts. Now that I'm retired, I'm starting to study arts and literature to learn what I've been missing.
Please could you do the rest of the romantic poems ? This is rlly helpful and I don’t have much material … would mean a lot
If I may ask, why is the ending interpretation still that Byron might rove again? I was suspecting that Byron would give up roving for good due to the reflective tone of the poem.
Very good video by the way, i’m just curious on that one point. It’s a great dissection of Lord Byron’s hedonistic tendencies and the regret associated with them.
amazing
Great analysis, love the vid!
It really helped me understand this, thank you so much for this video
thank you! i couldnt find much resources on this poem and this really helped. keep it up
Hi could you please do more videos on Streetcar 🙏
Thank you so much for this
Thank you very much for your analysis
6:00
Im watching all these analytical videos for English classes. I'm wondering to myself if Tennessee Williams himself had thought of all these things and was trying to convey all these deeply dissected ideas while writing it. Or if he was just writing a fictional story with characters that happened to possess traits that reflect those of his own family and surroundings.
Great insight , thank you 👍
Excellent analysis - thank you!
Stella fem. proper name, from Latin stella "star" (see star (n.)).
Stella was the real star.. stairs represent rising up to the stars. All the psychopaths being removed out of her life.
Stella eventually wakes up to the narcissist around her.
Thank u sm xxxxx
It was so helpful please make videos on other poems
Yes, 💯 HE STARTS OUT WITH PHYSICAL BEAUTY , BUT GOES MUCH MUCH MORE DEEPER ❤️😍🥰🎶🎧🎶 IT'S LIKE A SONG.6/6/2023
Good job ♥️
This video has helped me so much! I have my A Level exam on the play in three days and I have struggled so hard with what to say about Stella other than she is passive. Thank you so much!
do you have any predictions for the 2023 exams for poetry?
i have my exam in a couple of weeks and this is incredibly useful. thank you !
A very comprehensive explanation of the poem. Thanks alot. It's really helping 🌹
Thank you so much
A Streetcar Named Desire is a life and death story. All the other poetic and tragic elements, need for love, etc, are tributaries to Blanche's need for survival and Stanley's obvious PTSD and survival of the 2nd World War, and Stella's need to run away from all the deaths of Belle Reeve, collide over the few months which they live together in a cramped world which is "Red hot." The more that one sees Blanche as an alcoholic trying to kill pain and find magic, Stanley wanting his world to be unrefined after the war, makes Stella the true protagonist between the two forces. Brutality wins and Blanche is driven into madness which was calling at the door throughout the play or on the phone metaphorically. The plays reflect current times.
Thank you for breaking down the character of Stella, her motivations and direction are just as interesting as Blanch
I love this poem it's so very beautiful
Thank you! Could you do more of these on other characters like Stanley?
