Vintage Fan Shaped Clip Earrings
These vintage earrings are incredibly beautiful, unique and intricate. Fan shaped mother of pearl sits atop a gold tone filigree base with a lattice of goldtone vines with small plastic flowers and rhinestones. All edged with various shades of blue rhinestone. Believed to be from the late 1940’s to 1950’s. Very good vintage condition with some normal vintage wear on the filigree back and clips. Available in my Etsy store izabitjewerly or on Ebay.

    Just wanted to share with you something else you can do with the copper that you made. Check out videos about flame painting, and silver articulation on copper. Nancy Hamilton has one on articulation of sterling silver on copper, and soldering without flux or solder. Thank you for sharing the video with me I’m definitely gonna try this technique. I just wanted to share a technique with you that can give your already wonderful Creations may have a the different look❤ also look up Larry Dallas on flame painting copper❤. God Bless

    Elizabeth, I love your video--and appreciate you sharing your expertise! I visited your Etsy shop. You have such unique and fabulous designs. I've been making and selling my jewelry for a while; but, each year challenge myself with learning a new technique. This year it is fold forming. Your video is straight-forward. And, your voice & approach is very encouraging--Yes, you can do this! I do have one question. I've been researching quality torches--that aren't going to cost a huge amount but will get the job done. You mention that you love your torch; but, I can't make out the brand. Would you mind sharing that info? Thanks again for making such a wonderful video! I'm going to browse through your Etsy shop soon. Maggie

    This was great!!! Thank you for sharing. I’ve been teaching myself jewelry making techniques for a few years but started getting into copper about a year ago. I love it! The more I try the more I want to learn. I’ve been focused on fire painting or fire patina (it’s just so cool!) but also trying to accomplish cool textures. I’ve been wondering how this sort of texture was achieved. I’m happy to see It doesn’t take a super expensive machine or press. I have most of the tools already which is awesome. I love the pieces you’ve done and really appreciate the tutorial :)

      Thanks! I’m a self taught jeweler too (for the most part). Copper is a great material to start with because it’s so much less expensive than silver and I love the way it looks too! I just finished posting a new video of a pair of sterling silver earrings I made using the same air chasing technique - segments of my process from start to finish. I hope you’ll watch!

      @@izabitjewelry1294 Hello, I am interested but I do not understand anything ... some doubts, when burning it with the torch, then it instantly cools in water? Is that for the patina (more beautiful color) or is it to work the piece easier? And another question, the hooking of the earring to the ear, can they be bought or are they also handmade? Thank you if you can answer me and I hope you understand me ... it is with google translator

    What gauge copper is best?

    • @elizabethvonisseractress
      @elizabethvonisseractress 3 роки тому

      I was using 24 gauge in the video. You can use heavier gauge and you can use lighter gauge - it just depends on how you want to use it and the sturdiness you require. I'd suggest experimenting with some different gauges :) - Good luck, and thanks for watching the video <3

    Are those edges sharp on the earrings? If not, is there a step to making them soft or are they just naturally soft? And thanks for the video!

    • @elizabethvonisseractress
      @elizabethvonisseractress 3 роки тому

      Hi Dee. Thanks for watching :) The edges could be sharp if you didn't sand/file them. I will use a small file to take off any sharp burrs (if there are any) and then I use progressively finer grit sandpaper to sand the edges. I start with 320 then go to 500 and finally 800 grit.

    Fire extinguisher needs to be away from your work and not where you might need to move across a burning area. Talk with your fire department safety people and have them explain about the placement. They most likely will be quite happy to help you with this. What you are doing is dangerous.

    I usually put a fire extinguisher on a side or behind me, not behind the fire. But having it in view is worth a lot too - in a panic situation, you can see a fire extinguisher, but not think about where it is.

    You should never quench when annealing. You’re defeating the purpose of annealing. By quenching your actually Harding the metal. Better to let cool or blow air on it.

    • @lowbflat1
      @lowbflat1 5 років тому

      Actually, quenching hot copper and sterling softens it, unlike steel.

    • @mikeeagle2653
      @mikeeagle2653 5 років тому

      Michael Miner Quenching copper does not soften it at all. It doesnt make the copper softer it just doesn’t temper it like it does with steel. I do all of my steel work without heat or rather 95%of my work. There are the 5% of the times you cant get around it. Copper and steel are to totally different animals when it comes to using heat.

      @mikeeagle2653 5 років тому

      E vI I from New York but live in florida. Copper being sold by a jewelry maybe why they are selling copper by the Ga. i own a metal fabrication shop and do many art projects and have been buying copper for the last 20 yrs. when you buy copper sheet Is comes 3ft x 10ft and sold by the ounce. Most typically 16 ounce. But since your purchasing from a jewelry supplier and not a metal supplier Is why its sold different. 16 ounce = 24 ga. Nice work

    You can use a flat or mill file to dress the end of your punch where it has been peened by blows from the steel hammer. An 8 to 10 inch file not including the handle would do nicely. Longer is better usually as you can get a longer stroke. Simply clamp the file horizontally in your vise with the damaged end protruding out about an inch. If the punch has flat sides match the angle of the file stroke paralell to the length and the angle of the surface and push forward with a moderate amount of down pressure. Continue strokes until the surface is flush. Rotate the file for the next flat and repeat the process. If the punch is round the process is similar other than using a round over motion during the stroke. It will make sense when you try it. Other wise a belt sander would do nicely as well if you have one in your shop. If you are really into metal working a mini grinder, bench grinder etc. will also do the job. Goes really quick even with a file and your punch will set back in its index.
