Awesome set dude!
Thanks dude!
that was a great performance. sounded really sick
Thanks!
a group of friends, a glass of wine, the right mood and a machine.❤
The field is well worth the price, I heard it.
This goes absolutely crazy, holy man.
Thank you!
Nice! Can I come to your next party? 😆
Thanks! Haha anytime (my op-1 is collecting dust though)
😍
Hipster roof party
Solid track , love the robot voices
Thanks man!
Its a very cool synth but way too expensive. You are in the price range where you could buy something like an ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe. A real fullsize synth with velocity sensitive keys and all. Even multi touch
echt vet!
Thanks!🙏
Could you have achieved the same with your phone using a free app though?
Probably, don't know about free apps though, but I imagine one could get quite close to something like this with the iMaschine app. However without knobs and keys to modulate and create sounds it seems like less fun to do on an app.
@@sebastiancranemusic - I begin to see how the physical knob and button twiddling seems to make the difference. I do wonder, though, if there isn’t some UI/UX design that doesn’t try to directly emulate the knobs, sliders and switches (in a skeuomorphic way) that would provide an equivalent - or better (?) experience.
@@portlyoldman Maybe, would be cool to see something like that, but haven't found it yet. Intuitively I think we like having knobs, faders and keys when it comes to electronic music.
this is awesome
it's not a toy.
Everything is a toy if you're brave enough :)
Very nice!
yeah! I like
And I like you!
I like to work with my op-1 on Tracks. But love how you use it to make a Liveset with it :) Very much inspiration
amazing grooves! listening this on repeat
Thanks! Appreciate it. Checking out your music now. Sounds awesome!
Absolutely fantastic job! This has gotta be the coolest thing I’ve seen done with an op1. I hope you’re still jammin
Ayeeeeee
Lekker!!!!
Dankje! :)
You really did a great job on that beast!! I just started yesterday but I managed to combine drumm patterns, piano, samples and vst stuff as its also an midi and audio interface
Thanks man! nice going :)
How do you transition between loops without abrupt/unwanted skips? I assume you’re making use of the in and out points to extend the life of certain parts but I’m confused how you keep each phrase so well intact when the loop points don’t automatically quantize.
While holding shift and then tapping the arrows left or right you can move the loop point on the exact bpm the OP-1 is currently in. So for this live set I only worked with one BPM speed. And then while holding the shift Botton and then pressing '3' (the loop on button) it select a recording on the current rack you're in and loops that. So I prepared some tracks that where either 16, 32 or 8 bars of beats (hi-hat or other percussion) to be able to switch lengths of the loop while keeping it quantized. So actually I'm not using the in and out point buttons at all if I remember correctly. Hope this helps
Thats Great music there! Is it too much to ask for a how-to video about this setup? The way Op-1 sequencer works I think makes what you did REALLY hard and I would love how you managed that problem
I'm to lazy for a how-to video haha. But in some responses to other comments I explained a bit how and what I did. Hope those can be helpful. Sorry for the late reply
Well done man I love it
Thanks :)!
I love this mix! As soon as I discovered the OP-1 I started diggin UA-cam to find some videos about this. And I'm glad I found this masterpiece :D Do you release on any other platforms or do have you planned to release some more mixes on UA-cam? I'm interested!
Thank you so much! I’m currently working on a steady stream of original releases as Sebastian Crane on Spotify and other platforms. These are house and techno tracks that will all be put together into a dj-mix album in the end. Either in between when I have the time or after the album, I want to create some more live sets on the OP-1, but filming is not my strength yet. That being said I use the OP-1 quite a lot in my productions. So far I’ve released two tracks and a third one is coming next Friday ;)
very cool!
Bloody hell! This is ace!
Wooooooow, excellent!
Sheeeet that's noice 🔥🔥
Thanks bro🔥
Zo hard bro <3
Thanks bro <3
You know a track is amazing when it can hit you right in the feels and make you want to party at the same time. Keep up the good work Crane!
Wow thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoy my music so much!
Hey man, this is incredible!!! Listened to this set for like 10 times already! Just got my OP-1, partially because of your set. Would you mind sharing your approach to this set? Do you have different pieces of tape you switch to/from somehow? I can’t understand from the video :(
Wow thanks man. That means a lot! Hope you're having fun with your OP-1 so far. I'll try to be as short and specific as possible: I approached each section I made with 8 bars at a time and then copying it to the next 8 bars to make slight variations in that part. Now that's the basis of it. Then I approach the 4 tapes roughly as following: 1. Kick and/or Beat 2. Bass and/or low synths 3. Melodic parts 4. Extra parts like effects, vocals or more beats Now this order is not always a 100% correct and it changes throughout the video depending on what parts fit where (it is a bit of puzzle work in the end) but keeping a structure like this in mind when creating can help out a lot. Now combining the two starting points: Working in 8 bars at a time and keeping the instruments as separate as possible on their own tape tracks. From that point on I'd advice creating two short songs with the focus on the transition part. Make this transition part 8 or 16 bars long. Play with how you go from the first idea to the next. What do you leave out from the first song and what do you introduce from the second. And then practice practice practice. This explanation is a bit abstract maybe haha, but it is how I approached it. I was inspired to make this live set after seeing a video of a guy called Dapayk doing a similar thing on the OP-1. Then I wrote down in a word document what happens in his set at certain moments in time and why I was interested to listen to his set. Write down what happens in the music. You can do this with my set as a reference too. Then make those descriptions your own. For instance: 'Tom groove enters at around @' minutes. Then create your own toms, create your own groove. 'starts playing melody at @'. Play your own melody. Write down the parts you like and write down the parts you dislike so you can do them according to your own taste. Go wild with it, see what works for you, but having some points of reference in time can really help. And then its just practice, get rid of parts, create new parts, create moments designed for freestyle only, create moments where you know exactly what you want the music to sound like, get rid of some more stuff, ad more parts, practice again, etc. Hope this helps and I hope you'll be able to create some awesome music on the OP-1. Cheers, Crane
@@sebastiancranemusic whoa! Thanks so much! It helped a loooot!! I’m writing everything down and start practicing practicing practicing. You are the best!
@@pasxa Good luck my man. Curious to hear what you'll create ;)
Yo, that's sick set my dude! Congrats. Clean. 🤙
Thank you my dude!
Nice set man! I love the idea of kicking it with a few friends and playing some tunes on the OP-1.
Thanks man! Yeah the size makes it ideal for that. Preparing the sounds takes some time tho but that’s part of the fun as well
@@sebastiancranemusic agree, it takes a while to figure out the best workflow because there are really quite a few ways to go about it. Looking forward to the next set!
Thought the OP-1 was just a hipsters toy, but you proved me wrong;-o
Haha thanks, that’s an awesome compliment
looks like a bunch of hipsters that just heard about berghain to me
@@sooperheep Thats dismissive AF. Bad Hobbit, Bad! Go back to your cave.
What’s Berghein?
Muito bom irmão! You need a more enthusiastic crowd though! Beats were too clean for some head bobbing
Thanks bro! These are some of my close friends and family who where available with the restrictions last year. None of them normally listens to Techno haha
this video is sick how does it not have shit tonnes of views
forever netherlands jejeje you have EDM on the blood from birth
What sequencer did you use to make the arp at 17:00 ? So nice
Thanks :) It's the arpeggio sequencer
Were there some click sounds in between by accident? Ive heard that it does that in between
Yeah looping on the OP-1 can not always be done a 100% clean. When using a kick that has a slightly longer tail gets cut at the end of a loop it leaves a click sound
Epic 44 subs unknown op-1 god.
That's quite the complement. Thanks :)
muito bom o som ! se puderes coloque mais ! um abraço das terras quentes do norte do Brasil!
obrigado cara! abraço de volta das terras frias
Muy bueno! Bless from Argentina 🇦🇷
Muchos gracias! and bless you too :)
Really nice work! Showing that less is more sometimes, nicely done
by less you mean the $1200 device he is playing?
@@AlexKono999 The power of limitation is in skill and not money wise.
Very nice set! Do al the sounds come from the OP-1 or did you sample them?
Thanks :) a mix of both. The synths and basses are all OP-1 and then there’s a sampled 909 kit, sometimes mixed with the D-box from the OP-1. Plus a few sampled vocal chops here and there
This is awesome! Did you record this into a DAW and then mix it after the fact?
Thanks man :) Recorded as one file with an iRig recorder and then a little isotope mastering on that file.
chuvikhi gathered at the funeral
How long does it take for a complete beginner to do this?
Depends. I take it that you already have an OP-1? Become familiar with some of the shortcuts the machine has. I was inspired to make this live set after seeing a video of a guy called Dapayk doing a similar thing on the OP-1. Then I wrote down what happens in his set at certain moments in time and why I was interested to listen to his set. Write down what happens in the music. Then make those descriptions your own. For instance: 'Tom groove enters at around 2:12' minutes. Then create your own toms, create your own groove. 'starts playing melody at 5:15': Play your own melody. Don't know about the amount time it will take but the end goal will be obtainable if you sort of follow this process and have an outline to work with. Try making a set last 5 minutes first with a clear beginning and end. I believe you will be surprised at how fast you'll have created a short song that you'll like.
@@sebastiancranemusic So sorry for the late reply, somehow I didn't see the notification. That's really great advice not just for working with Op-1, but with playing synth in general. I'll find some songs I like and give it a try! I'm working with a Korg Monologue at the moment. Once I get comfortable with it I'll invest in a higher-end device. Thanks again for the reply and looking forward to more videos!
@@sebastiancranemusic love to see some great advice 👍🏾 also the set was dope af
@@whateverwhatever94 Thanks! :)
Very cool man.... at first I was like “phhft” then I was like “hmmmm” and then I was like “decent!”
