Build 145! Last year I built a CBG for the folks on the tv show, The Barnwood Builders. I called it the Barnwood Picker. This year, I was commissioned by Sherman Thompson’s wife to build him a CBG as a Christmas gift. I was so excited! So here it is, The Shermanator. Hope y’all enjoy.

So cool.. I've been wanting to build a CBG fiddle and was wondering what box to use. And I also have that same box and was wondering what to do with it.. so you've killed two birds for me. That thing sounds great. I like how you've combined the sound holes with the side indents or cut outs wherever they are called.

Hey fella, is this a 4/4 violin body or a full size viola? Which size to you prefer? Love that laser engraver.
Hey man, Yes. It’s a 4/4 violin body. I get the kits from Amazon. I use the body for these builds and the rest to make Cogar Box Fiddles. I did make myself one from a viola body and I love it! Do you leave the bass bar in the body?
Yes. It’s usually glued or carved to the upper side, so I leave it in. Plus, it provides a lot of strength. That’s why I carve the piece of the neck that goes into the violin the way I do. It give way to make the whole neck straight.

I have an extremely old handmade German HOPF violin that I'm told can't be restored due to a cracked headstock, but the body is in nice condition. You think you can bring it back to life as a lefty Git Fiddle?

I just discovered dulcimer hybrids this morning, and stumbled across your Diddles by sheer luck. I wasnt expecting the sound quality or volume! I'm head over heels for your hybrid and wishing I hadnt just bought one of my homemade humans a new ukulele 😅 I think the new tattoo fund just switched to a new instrument fund!
