Just got a set of these expensive but well worth it
@@casper1240 that’s awesome, I hope they serve you well.
Top shelf suggestions 👍🏻
Looks cool the music was annoying so I moved on
@@southsidekarl Yeah, I know. I don’t use music in the background anymore.
Quite useful.
Hi size of the wood bock thank you
If the legs broke on these how would you repair them?, i have Oaxon peacock and one of the legs 3mm broke at the foot.
@@LeannSehon Depends on what type of material it is. Most likely I would use two part epoxy.
And here’s a little guy I made ☺️
I’ve never tried making a clay sculpture before carving in wood. You made it so easy to understand how to do it. I appreciate your talent. Thanks for make such a wonderful video!
@@aliceswann4148 thank you for your kind words. I truly appreciate it.
I love the style of this 🙂. Great music choices, too
@@testsubject10101 thank you, I appreciate that.
I’m trying out this clay rn for a homemade costume mask, and so far what I’ve noticed is that it’s actually a lot like dough! And while it won’t stick to your hands when you take it out of the package, it does definitely stick when you wet it, but it helps smooth it out pretty well! :)
Look forward to your bluejay carving it’s on my list of birds to carve. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Got the set and I really like them. They come ready to work. And as the original knives the blades come sharp. Love the handles and the blades’ metal is really easy to strop and they keep an edge for a Long time. Very happy!
@@joseafonseca3536 agreed, they did a nice job on these knives.
Love this
Thank you, I appreciate that
Great tips. Thanks
@@josephtrifone7520 thank you I appreciate that.
I've just gotten into wood carving. These videos are great! Thank you for making them :)
@@thebadtraveler I love it, wood carving is a great hobby. I hope it brings you years of enjoyment.
You keep your carving knives in cigar holders….
@@Solid_Jackson thanks for your question. That is the container that they were shipped to me in. Since that video, I built a tool caddy and keep it in the caddy with all my other knives and chisels.
@@markdmaker3173 fair enough!
Hi Mark, I love the fact you share that excellent reference book. It's all about planning and using patterns to guide your work. As I do clay modeling, which is much more flexible, I much admire the challenges you face as a wood sculptor. It was a fun and very nice video to watch!
Thank you very much. I appreciate all the kind words.
Yea thats way I do it too. I do leave a little more extra wood and not cut so close to the line to make more rood for knife shaping to the real size of the pattern.
I make my own carving knives. I use old two man crosscut saws to make the blades. Anealing, hardening and tempering can all be done with a blowtorch, because the blades are so small. Shaping and beveling I do with a hacksaw, bench grinder or file, and wet and dry sandpaper on a piece of float glass. Its a skill worth learning, you can make whatever shape blade you can dream up.
@@RamonMarais-k2k very impressive, bravo
Thanks guys
Amazing that you found a much higher quality replacement part that fit perfectly. It just shows what happens when you let another country take over the quality control of your company.
Thanks for this video mark, we don't have a hobby lobby in camada but I'll try and find it
@@CarvingFusion hey Jordy I did notice Hobby lobby has a website and the clay is the same price on the website as their store.
Like the gnome with the christmas tree hat 👍
@@MattCarves thanks my friend. I appreciate it.
Those are some fun carvings! Thanks for showing what you're working on.
@@fouroakscrafts7240 thank you, I appreciate that
I bought some of this and it’s sooo soft and sticky. I was hoping to be able to use it with some molds, but I think it’s a nit too sticky.
Excellent work
@@noahbaker-kang5148 thank you I appreciate that
Great job Mark ..thank you for showing us how to do this fine detail work ..

Mark i want buy this products where i can buy this
Very good work like the hummingbird 😊Thanks keep up good work
@@randywood8658 Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it.
Thanks a lot for the information. I am new to the carving hobby and follow the informations from other carver with much experience. I used till now BLO after carving, let it a couple of days till to a week to soak in the wood. Acrylic paint stays on the surface very well... till I use the final finish. Apply Bee wax, no mather with what (fine piese of cloth or paintbrush hard ebogh for apply the wax) removed the some of the color (where the layer is thinner). It may be look oldish, but sometime I did not whant that. I also used water based lasure. Some results, color goes a little bit off. I first think, it is my fault, apply to much oil, did not wait long enough till the wood take the oil in, and so on. Till I saw this video of yours.
What I think a lot of carvers get wrong so badly, is having too distinctive a step in feather groups. The cape one this bird just stands way too high. It does not appear like that in nature. To me the bill is also off, too heavy and the wrong shape . I am a bander and handle lots ofd wild birds. An art teacher told me, do not try to represent every feather or every hair.. Give instead the right impression.
What I need is a knife eraser that will put back the wood I accidentally cut away.
@@davebradford8393 ha ha yes!, both of us need that knife.
Thank you for sharing. I was wondering what carving on the round was. That was an interesting video.
Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it.
Whoa, how long does it take to mix the resin and hardener together?!
Thanks for your comment. Depends on how big the pieces are. I’ve done ping-pong size ball in about three minutes. Small as a size the quicker the mix. I rely on a nice even tone from the two colors.
Definitely learned a thing or 2 about how I can go about using this stuff. The aluminum foil trick will save me a lot of putty, thanks!
Thanks for the comment. I hope to do a video soon on some air dry clays that are pretty cool as well.
When will the next part come out?
Just started working on it, give me a few days.
Great thank you!
Can I cut something like this out if I only have a 10 inch bandsaw?
Thank you for the comment. Absolutely yes, that’s what I have a 10 inch bandsaw.
What a Geeza!, a one time only gift for you kids!, knowledgeable folk of this calibre were a real rarity back in my days!, look after this one!, there's no replacement.
Thank you so much for the kind words. truly appreciated.
Have just found this channel, and what a video to land on, saved to my 'useful folder'!. Having worked with clay, for too longa time, I can say that most of the items in this video, would be applicable to clay use, so don't rush past this if you're not a woodworker!. The first item, perfect tool for small scale sculpts, making moulds requires a flat and even base to work on, this item has that at least. Moving on to 4:30, another clay useful thing!, especially the metal cutters ...quick and clean solution to cutting exact circles, and many other shapes from clay!. Thank you for expanding on the usual one item per video nonsense!, I hope these videos of yours expands your subscriber numbers, thank you for sharing something so useful!.
Thank you so much for your kind words, I truly appreciate it.
אתה מזיין את המוח יותר מידי.
Neat! I love it how you made sketches and then prototyped with cardboard. I can tell you like to think things through rather than jump straight in. Your finished tote is excellent and it's 100% yours! Very well done. 👍👍 I don't have many tools yet, but if (or when) I do i shall have to figure out what kind of tote that would suit me. 😉 All the best from Scotland.
Thank you for the kind words. I truly appreciate it.
Nice project. excellent channel. Thank you.

Hi Mark, great video. What model Dremel are you using?
Thank you for your kind words. The Dremel is model 8220. That comes with a 12 V lithium battery. I found it very useful and versatile. I use a keyless chuck which makes changing bits very quick and easy.
@@markdmaker3173 That keyless chuck sounds great, where did you get that from?
Never mind, found it. Are you doing a second Goldfinch video?
Dove si trova il disegno? Grazie
If I understand correctly, you are asking about the pattern. If you watch the video, you can screenshot the pattern when it is on the screen.
Such an informative video, answered so many questions that I hadn't found the answers to anywhere else, and I appreciate you sharing the results of your meticulous experimentation. At 15:55 when you're taking about the acrylic sealer you use before painting, what is the brand you prefer?
