Reading Spectrograms - Gramle - Dec 8
Переглядів 9428 днів тому
Some students mentioned a Gramle to me yesterday, and I decided to give it a go. It's a wonderful practice for reading spectrograms. In this video I am solving one for you, and I am explaining certain concepts and terms on how to do it. There is a lot more knowledge required for spectrogram solving, so make sure to check some of my other videos on spectrogram reading such as: ua-cam.com/video/a...

Thank you so much professor. That really helped me a lot. I shared the vid with my classmates.
Excellent, thank you! Glad I could help. Let me know if any other specific topic is difficult to master. I would be happy to create another video.
i really need help on a spectrogram i got assigned to read would you be able to help me 😭😭
Yes, of course. Write to me here or even better contact me at dusan.nikolic1@alumni.ucalgary.ca
Great 👍
Thank you! :)
I have an exam tomorrow and its about identifying what vowel and consosnant is based on the spectrogram presented. Is it doable? I feel like its impossible to answer an exam like that. It wasn't discussed clearly and I'm so unsure how to go about this.
Asa?
Yes, it is most certainly doable. But it requires a lot of practice and clear guidance. We can usually tell single sounds, especially certain types of sounds such as obstruents and vowels. Hope you did well!
Thank you king 🫶🏽

I think you missed it. Those all sound like pulmonary sounds even if they're de-voiced. Ejectives require the glottis to be closed.
Thank you for the comment! How do you know I missed it? The glottis can still be closed. One of the ways to determine it is through acoustic analysis. Check out my video on airstream mechanisms: ua-cam.com/video/lbolGE2ZieY/v-deo.html and let me know if you still think the same. :)

Are they free to download mixtex and texstudio from this page?
Yes @amyoak6256. They are free to download, install, and use. :)
Your "ejective" sure sounds like "adjective". Interesting to see this about Amharic.
Yes, you are completely right, I haven't even noticed :)) I think I say "adjective" when it's an "adjective"! (for some reason) Anyway, thank you for taking a look at the video, and yes, Amharic ejectives are very cool.
@@dulenini Using a variable orthography, letters from Georgian language can be used for the Amharic ejectives. Ejectives also occur in Quechua. Mix and match letter shapes for cognitive benefit!
Thanks a lot Sir. Your videos are very impressive and easy to grab. God bless you!
Thank you very much!
Hhello
This is why I will never have ejectives in my speech. I enunciate nothing.
To clarify, in this particular case the male actor is using an ejective to demonstrate his nervousness?
Hi Ky-Vinh Mai, this is how he speaks. He is (not knowingly) using ejectives in his speech. It is my interpretation that he is pausing and enunciating because his character is quite insecure and troubled by the patriarch in their family. But let me know what you think!
Hi, Please guide me how to convert the tex file in pdf. I did "save as" to pdf but the pdf is corrupted.
Hello MK Khan, when you click the double green button << compile >> the pdf will be automatically created and saved in the same directory as your .tex file. If you are using Mac, click on typeset, and you will receive the same result.
How can I fix that problem ? Praat: message is not completed handled
Something is not correct in the praat script or the directories you are using. Try doing everything from scratch.
I have been working on a case-less, non-pronoun declining language, that seems to be somewhere between Proto-Paleo-Siberian, Proto-Yeneseic, and Proto-Altaic, for my story about Mesolithic Ancient North Eurasians.
Great! You can get in touch with conlang.org/ and see what they can offer to you and you to them.
A great lesson.
Thank you very much!
Keep it coming. Crush your competition with P r o m o S M!
Thank you very much

Something is either not installed or missing. Try re-installing and start again.
I have tried to install and run LeTeX file but I get this error: Could not start the command: pdflatex.exe -synctex=1 -interaction=nonstopmode "filename".tex
Have you managed to install the TexStudio? If you have, you can download some files from: www.latextemplates.com/. If you are using Mac, then try out www.tug.org/mactex/.
@@dulenini Hi I have downloaded and installed both MiKTeX and TexStudio, and I have been using it for the last 5 years, but I changed window but failing to install now with that pdflatex error
@@victortomno8321 Hello Victor, sorry to hear that. I really do not know what the mistake could be, but you should probably do some updates on your system. You could use www.overleaf.com/ to write your documents in LaTeX online and generate pdfs from there.
@@dulenini I have succeeded, by changing windows to windows 10 pro and installing PDF before MiKTeX and finally TexStudio
Thanks a lot for the tutorial! By the way, I think Stanley's midpoint calculation has a mistake, it should look like this (end - duration)/2. As it is in the script, it's equivalent to end - (duration/2).
Thank you very much, Göktuğ! Hope you found it useful. Nice catch, you are correct! The midpoint should be (end - duration)/2. Great!
Yeah Thank you bro for that link .
Please check that error
