Schwalmis (from Vorder Jochli, via east ridge)
This is unmarked climb to Schwalmis that makes the ridge hike between Oberbauenstock and Brisen more logical without having to go back to Schwalmis or skipping the summit altogether. SAC portal rate it as T4. First part is just a very steep grass, one should aim at the gully in the final rock band that is clearly visible from the bottom (from the bottom it looks like the rock band is split in two). Later on the ridge the path is well defined and there are no difficulties.
0:00 - start at Vorder Jochli, zig-zag through the steep grass
7:37 - gully nicely visible
9:30 - bottom of the gully, the path here starts to be a bit more pronounced
11:09 - finally on the ridge
11:50 - Schwalmis summit in sight
14:49 - the path bypass the ridge on the left
16:55 - final grassy climb to the summit (only 50m)
19:40 - last meters to the summit cross

The video starts roughly around 1885m asl point where the traverse over scree field begins. SAC/Hikr difficulty is between T4 and T4 , all on the wbw trail. It is definitely more demanding than neighboring Niderbauen Chulm. After the scree traverse there is a short section of easy scrambling secured with the fixed ropes and we end up on the ridge at the point named Schwiren. From there a bit on...

The video starts at the 1527m asl where the blue trail begins and ends roughly at the 1860m asl where the blue trail joins the red trail just 60m below the summit of Niderbauen Chulm. Hikr consensus regarding the difficulty is something between T3 and T4-. 0:00 - Start at Lauweli hut, sun is slowly rising above the horizon. 4:16 - Path changes to scree, still pretty easy. 7:32 - Back on the gra...

Downhill to Fälmisegg is rated as T3 (plus is because of some exposed places and the ladder). I would recommend doing it in the uphill direction, but IMHO both trails to Vitznauerstock/Gersauerstock are better in the uphill direction and yet everyone has to go down somehow 😅 The video includes short detour to the Chlistöckli (1370m). 0:00 - Start from the Gersauerstock summit. 0:53 - Beginning ...

Full recording of the Vitznauerstock/Gersauerstock climb from Ober Urmi. The trail is pretty well marked and secured with some robes here and there. Hikr consensus is T3. It is relatively steep with ~30% incline (~275m of elevation gain on 900m of distance). Overall pretty nice, underrated summit in the Rigi massive. 0:00 - Beginning of the trail roughly at the 1200m asl. 1:20 - Rope (not reall...

      Generally all of Churfirsten is way easier if you go from the other side, and all of them can be tackled as a separate hikes. Zuestoll is the only one marked in blue (alpine hike) but it is still easier and less demanding than Paliis Nideri from Walenstadtberg. Paliis Nideri itself can be also a nice hike from the other side, there are no technical difficulties and you still get the spectacular view above Walensee.

    Nice video! I think it probably rated as T4 by Hikr because of the use of hand for ascending and some exposure at certain areas. Bear in mind that the SAC rating also include "what happen if you can't progress? do you have any alternative route?" and for this matter, T4 usually doesn't have any "exit route". Kurz vor der Schlüsselstelle oberhalb Ränggen, von der ich nicht wusste, wie schwierig sie eigentlich genau ist, hats angefangen zu regnen. Da ich auch noch den Hund dabei hatte, hab ich das nicht riskiert und bin umgekehrt. Wenn ich es jetzt sehe, bin ich froh so entschieden zu haben😮 Da würde ich auch bei besten Verhältnissen nicht mit dem Hund runter. Bin übrigens gerade eben auf Deinen Kanal gestossen. Gefällt mir gut, auch auf die Art die bekannte Umgebung zu sehen. Wenn Du Dich noch manchmal ein wenig nach oben oder zur Seite drehen könntest, würde man zwischendurch sehen wo es durch geht. Hi Matts! Thanks for the comment! The key point in the rain might be indeed a bit more difficult, so good call with turning back. As for the dog, it probably depends on the dog, but there is this one pretty vertical part where you would probably have to help the dog if he is not afraid of height. The camera angle is kind of forced since I’m using chest mounted gopro. It gives pretty good results, but it is more limited than for example head mount. When I record I usually just turn it on and forget that I’m wearing it mostly focusing on the trail. Pretty minimal effort 😅

    That looked sketchy, esp. towards the end. I have done a blue-and-white trail only once in life, and that had freaked me out. Maybe I can go up from the lake to Bockmattli, and do an out and back. Any sort of rundeweg planning in this area is futile for me (except maybe Gross Aubrig)

    • @trailing_space
      @trailing_space Рік тому

      If you go from the Bockmattli you can inspect the short ridge at the beginning and decide if it is for you or not. For me the traverse itself was more challenging as I think it is more exposed and narrow in some places. I did this trail in another direction as well, not sure which one would be considered better as second time always feels less scary :) Regarding rundwegs in that area, yea you eventually have to either hit some blue or unmarked paths.

      In the couloir (and on the way up) it was quite exposed, but you don't really feel it when you go up and most of the time it was easy to progress (except 7:13 maybe). On the traverse I could feel the exposition and there were some spots where I wouldn't like to slip. Comparing to my other tours, that one was one of the hardest.

    • @disdonc6012
      @disdonc6012 Рік тому

      I did this some years ago and I'm quite used to alpine paths. I did the descent and I was very happy when it was done. The couloir in the beginning was very steep but still okay, then I first had some problems to get to the traverse, it looks quite impressive and dangerous when coming down from Gocht. The traverse then would actually be quite okay if the path would be better. There was one point where it was really sandy / earthy and the path had slipped some. This was when I a bit freaked out. The other traverses were still quite demanding. I'd give this a T5(-) for sure. There are also absolutely no ropes or chains anywhere. I'd suggest you take the path over "Palis Nideri". It's not really marked but a lot easier, less exposed and there are security installations.

    It looks like you are wearing micro spikes on your feet? Would never have thought of using them in this type of terrain, do they help? Also, the faded whithe-red-white markers (e.g. at 4:20) are interesting... Guess our elders were indeed better than us!

    • @trailing_space
      @trailing_space 2 роки тому

      Normally I wouldn't put micro-spikes in that terrain either, but I chose my shoes poorly on that day. Nike Wild Horse are not the best for technical terrain and they are super-slippery when there is even tiny bit of wet grass/rocks... I usually take Salomon Speedcross for this kind of tours. Regarding the micro-spikes, I put them on in the middle of the traverse to get some more traction and they did a good job on the grassy and gravel parts. They also somewhat works in the muddy terrain.

      Hey, Thanks for the comment! Not sure if google translated it correctly, but I will try to answer ;) I didn't use via ferrata set at all, just holding to the steel cables (nice to have some gloves). If you want you can use via ferrata set as the route is really well prepared. Some easier spots are not secured at all.
