    I’m doing this sort of thing from the organ with several hymns, but it’s essential to maintain the pace right through the whole hymn, allowing a rallentando at the end but no pauses etc anywhere else.

      I'll still have to put it into Finale and transpose it down. I only have one soprano that can sing above an E. Please keep us aging choir folks in mind for that upper range. Thanks!

  • @barbarashell
    @barbarashell Рік тому

    I would suggest that composers for small church choirs make an effort to avoid writing a soprano part above an E. Also, pay close attention to the tessitura of the soprano part.

      Thanks for the feedback, Robert! Our editors have a lot of experience with small church choirs and much of our catalog is dedicated to such. We can appreciate keeping things within a modest range. That being said, sometimes the music calls for a stretch. :-) We hope you'll give it a try!

    I went to Bolton High with Beverly. She was my High School Prom Date when she was Beverly Brown. As I stepped all over her feet, she gave me a kiss on the cheek and said, "The Prom isn't the place to learn to dance. At a recent High School Reunion, she came over and told my wife about it and the band immediately began playing "All These Things" by Joe Stampley and the Uniques. This time I didn't step on her feet! 😅

      Hello, James. While using a feminine pronoun in reference to God (and specifically the Holy Spirit) can be difficult for some to hear, it's not entirely inaccurate. Interestingly, the Hebrew word for Spirit, ruach, is considered feminine. The word for God, Elohim, is masculine. And peppered throughout scripture, poetic language gives God both masculine and feminine characteristics such as God having a womb and giving birth (Job 38:29) or comforting us like a mother (Isaiah 66:13). It's clear that Jesus was born and man and refers to God as His "father" and as such we have grown most comfortable framing our understanding of God in this masculine context. However, we would encourage you to remain open to what can be revealed about the nature of God. Like Job, these things are often beyond what is comfortable and outside the bounds of our understanding.

      @@stjamesmusicpress Well, in a world where people are now actively engaging in actual pagan worship once again, it seems a bit of a dicey choice, tbh. But I grant that obviously the feminine is contained in the Godhead, even if that is not the traditional way of referring to God. (Seems rather modernist, if we're being honest.) PS, it's "GoddesS". At least on the first page the score is missing an s.

    Beautiful piece! There is a misprint, I believe, in measure 26. It should probably be Eb in both parts. The singer sings Eb which sounds right in context, but the organ plays E natural, which sound strange in context.
