Red River Catfish- 20 lb channel cat caught
Переглядів 4297 років тому
Footage from 7/26/17 on the Red River. Low water levels made the fishing tougher than normal, but we managed to catch 3 respectable catfish, including our first 20 pounder of the year, on cut goldeye.

Slaying Red River Channel Cats During the Spawn
Переглядів 1267 років тому
Fishing the Red River for channel cats during the 2017 spawn. The spawn makes for some tough fishing. Usually, you don't catch too many big ones during the spawn, so we weren't surprised we caught all of these small fish. But, there were a few big ones mixed in. The fish didn't really seem to be too picky about bait. We caught 16 cats over a period of a little over two hours on frog, redhorse s...

On this trip to the Red we were using cut goldeye for bait. We caught six fish total. A few of them were off camera. Had lots of hard hits, but only these ones took it completely in their mouths.

Pike Ice Fishing Devils Lake 2-4-17

Pike fishing Devils Lake through the ice on 2/4/17. At first, we were tip up fishing at Pelican Lake, but we only had 1 flag in 3 hours and the weather got bad, so we decided to move to another part of Devils Lake to set up the house. We set a few tip ups out as well. We ended the day with 5: 2 on tip ups, 1 on a rattle reel, 1 on a 1/16 oz gold buckshot spoon, and 1 on a bobber rod. The action...

Tip-up fishing 1/14/17 at Devils Lake, ND. We had a slow day, managing only 5 fish, and we also experienced some technical difficulties, only getting one fish catch on camera. The smallest was 26 inches and 4 pounds, while the largest was 31.5 inches and 8.5 pounds. Like, comment, and subscribe for future footage.
ND Perch Search- Ice Fishing "Lake Littleperch"
Переглядів 6597 років тому
1/1/17 fishing footage from a nearby reservoir in North Dakota. We iced 60 perch, 2 walleyes, and a pike that day, keeping 22 perch. Keeping perch from this body of water helps the population because they are overpopulated to the point where they are stunted, so getting rid of some will allow the remaining more food to eat, so they can eventually grow bigger. I was shocked to catch two walleye ...

    Your first mistake......never probe or stand on or near a mound you plan to trap !!! This will encourage a gopher to plug the hole before the trap ! Second mistake....never open the tunnel as you did. If you are careful you can open the " main " single entry and only have one hole to deal with...and one trap to set. If you have two hole..abandon it until new digging occurs. Try again later. Ive been trapping gophers for 45 years.....use numerous traps...The Lanesboro GT 100 trap revolutionized my trapping ! If set correctly 99.9 success rate ! Out of the 300 gophers I trapped last year....I missed one. Water from a rain storm flushed the hole full of dirt. Gophers can and will become very trap smart ....almost impossible to get a second chance !

    • @hairymanonetwo
      @hairymanonetwo 5 років тому

      @@fishsickoutdoors8450 Thanks.....its easy to find the main opening to the hole... the gopher fans the dirt out from the main hole...like a half moon. If its a fresh mound you can see it clearly. Lightly dig .....with a garden shovel..... the remaining you can dig out with your finger tips. Remove the extra dirt......insert trap.

      I have had luck with traps and used a crossbow on one a pellet gun on another and used the lawn mower exhaust a few times. I have been hearing allot of people saying putting bubble gum sticks in the tunnel kills them as odd as that sounds.

    Do you not replace the dirt? In my experience when I've left the tunnel exposed, the gopher just plugs the tunnel in front of the trap.

    • @fishsickoutdoors8450
      @fishsickoutdoors8450 6 років тому

      Doug in Texas we leave the hole open because we find they come up to investigate when we leave sunlight able to come in. Gophers have horrible eyesight so they don’t see the trap anyway in our experience. Once in a while we will get a plugged hole still but it’s not a big problem.

    • @burrowbuddy3596
      @burrowbuddy3596 5 років тому

      The open hole is the bait, The natural instinct of the gopher is to plug the open hole, when they push dirt against the trigger they get caught, Important that you make a tight fitting set hole, the trap jaws should be right out in the dirt on the sides, The Burrow Buddy trapping tool was designed to make this tight fitting set hole

      I never had Gophers when we had a Cat...The cat would get them and come back to the house and make a weird noise and I knew she had a Gopher..I live in the mountains in Sisters Oregon on 5.5 acres..We went through 10/12 Cats before we finally keep that one Around for about 10 years but she got Cancer and Died...The Coyotes got the most of them or Owls got a few...I always leave the hole Open....In the Last 3 years I've caught 68 Gophers...Yes I keep a chart on them...The month/time of Day....The Green Macabee Traps are the best...I have 6 in my bucket... Their the Green manual Traps...I don't use any Bait..Make the hole big enough so you can spin your hand around that way the Trap won't hit the top of the Tunnel...You don't have to Boil them...Sometimes I put 2 even 3 traps in 1 hole if they keep coming back and filling the hole with Dirt...I tie a string to the Trap because they'll push dirt up covering the opening and you'll think you must of got them and all you'll get is your hand..so move alitte dirt with a Spade then pull the Trap out with the String....The gophers won't run up and Bite you...I tried everything before I got the Green Macabre traps are the Best Manual Traps...Road flares .. poison...water by filling the hole..I took my tractor and put a hose from the exhaust into the hole .I even shot 3 with my Pallet gun(and that's hard)..The Green Macabee Traps are the best ... I've caught many in about 3/4/5 Minutes ..I set them walk away and come back and their still ALIVE..

    Have you ever put a dab of peanut butter on the flap? I don't know of any animal that doesn't like it. Is it because youre afraid a dog might smell it and want to dig?

    • @fishsickoutdoors8450
      @fishsickoutdoors8450 6 років тому

      David Greve we have never noticed a need to do this as we usually catch every gopher we attempt to trap without bait. I think they can see and feel the light coming into the hole and wish to fill it in and that’s when we catch them. Thanks for the comment.

    • @davidgreve1081
      @davidgreve1081 6 років тому

      When you're using traps, it's so true that they don't like the light, and will readily try to cover it . I just thought that the smell of the peanut butter would pull them into the trap deeper so that you can get a little better kill count.

    • @fishsickoutdoors8450
      @fishsickoutdoors8450 7 років тому

      Thanks, we make our gaffs out of dowel, then we screw in a hook, remove the rubber coating, bend it, and then sharpen it. Then we wrap the handle in a color of tape that is highly visible so if we drop it on the ice we can find it. We take a Dewalt drill and put a hole in the handle and thread a short piece of rope in there in case we lose grip.
