The mystique of New Mexico's Twenty-two American Indian tribes is powerful. The Navajo, Apache and Pueblo cultures all call New Mexico home. Their unique languages, colorful dances, distinct arts and crafts, and cultural stories and traditions have been passed down through the generations and are intrinsic to the Land of Enchantment. The spiritual roots that sustain the state's tribes, pueblos and nations connect them to the earth and sky, to wind and water, to sun and moon, and to their ancestors, are a prominent part of New Mexico's rich cultural history.
Pueblo/Hopi Weaver
Fiber artist Louie Garcia shares some of his own history and some of the traditions that flow through Pueblo weaving.

Thanks Louie Gracia for sharing this. And teaching us.
Navajos spin faster and can card real fast I have seen them grandma's !
Navajos don’t even have real sashes, they use pueblo sashes.
Laguna Pueblo... neighbors to the Acoma Pueblo Sky city people in Central New Mexico. This is centuries old and has been traditionally passed down to our families to proudly show all nations we are God's ( creators) children and our way to appreciate all the given gifts and foods provided for us on this earth...

Does Louie Garcia have a facebook? Or instagram account? Or website? Thx
At least we're all more Indian decent that Elizabeth Warren aka Pocahontas! Lol
your mom is a scenic byway frfr
Um I'm native American 100% in blood! And your not even supposed to have phone's out record or photos! The Pueblo has direct orders for all tribes no out Sider are aload to be in the villige or recording You can actually get arrested for that you know! So if you do go to islata Pueblo don't bc they actually hurt the people and take the phones away! So plz STAY AWAY FROM MY VILLIGE! FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!
Let it be known that this is not universal; Isleta and Taos are the most conservative and secretive. But here at Sorocco we welcome travelers as long as you respect our residents and kivas. We live this shit so you'll see us but back all of the county.

I am a naitve and proud that my family all was born here proud
this is WEAK...where's the REAL NEGRO INDIANS WHO FORGOT THIER GOD AND WERE THUS CAST OFF...
Dandan Loosecannon Africans are not Indigenous Americans, Africans came from Africa
@@ParmesanPretzel64 hey buddy... how you doing there?? Yea, how about you go dreemur up some more dubstep and leave all the big boy talking to me, ok??? White man hated the Indian and vice versa...hated the culture...wasn't no in between...were no friends ever... these very facts alone should have let you know something...These natives and white man act like old friends never ever were sworn enemies...< White man love for Black man AKA real Redskin (ruddy) Indian...
@@ParmesanPretzel64 you think we were really walking around with a bunch of Christmas ornaments on and stuff? Or all this frivolous dancing??? Although everyone knows we love to dance and sing...they don't even know the why to wearing the "regalia" probably say it was some ol war tradition their grandfathers did...When you start asking questions instead of just accepting any and everything then you start to see as I do...
Dandan Loosecannon firstly, work on your grammar. Secondly, Europeans hated anyone who wasn’t white during the colonial period, they especially hated Africans for a long period of time, even continuing to this day. And thirdly, stop living in the past and understand that it’s not 1500 or 1600 anymore. We Natives aren’t as crazy as BLM
@@ParmesanPretzel64 hey dub, it's me again responding... I don't think my words sunk in enough for you yet so I'll give it more time...
I am proud of my heritage
Aw relax, white woman...
What tribe of Pueblo is this?
Gabe mccue multiple Pueblos, like some of the ones in the video are Jemez, Santa Clara and Zuni
BLESSING ALL <3 MY DEAR <3
love it.........................
The Zuni's and Hopi's are the best Pueblos!!
I also think feast days are stupid. Don't invite people to them if your going to dictate them about photographs and video. If that is such a problem then you lack psychological logic. If you want to keep your dances sacred then don't allow people to them to begin with. The Pueblo religion can be refuted by science or atheism anyway. There is nothing true about it. #Logic101
Sounds like some dummy got their phone taken away. That's What you get stupid!
Why do you watch videos like this
@@martinjenkins8270 why do you care what I think to begin with?
Don't really just wondered if your so negative about stuff like this why waste time watching it
@@martinjenkins8270 it's not being negative it's being objective.
Proud to have Puebla / Mexican Heritage. That makes me 100% American.
You are Spanish just like your father amigo...
@@ParmesanPretzel64 if I say I'm African I give your people the right to do whatever it is with the land that you guys want with it considering the fact that the so-called natives don't give a damn long as they have a steady flow of people flocking to casinos am I right? But if I tell the truth... Aww, the truth...
The Original Fouding Father's BITCHES!!! Scew George Washington!!! He's a joke brother. You're looking at ANCIENT CIVILIZATION right here fellas!! For over 1000 years, they've been the dominate habitat in north america, not until the spanish came here in the 1540's to fuck everything up.
I love my Pueblo culture, but some of these Pueblos who tie Catholicism with the culture do a disservice to traditionalism. Connecting Catholic metaphysic's with Native Pueblo metaphysics is irrational. That is mutually exclusive. When looking at the Anasazi Indians (what Pueblos claim to be descended from), and their metaphysics, it had nothing to do with Catholicism. That makes me wonder if some of these Pueblos are descended from the Anasazi. Their ruins are laying all over the Navajo reservation (Navajo's are taking care of them) and yet you Pueblos do nothing to help preserve them, yet you claim to be from them. I think some Pueblo tribes are just lying and just try to do a whole different thing. Anthropologists need to take another look into this. I am glad the Hopi's and Zuni's don't tie Catholicism with traditionalism and they are the real Pueblos with their traditions and Kachina dances. All you other Pueblo tribes just copy your dances from the Hopi and Zuni people. You can't even create your own first cause. And the majority of the Northern New Mexico Pueblos look Hispanic anyway lol.
P.Anthony Lasiloo Could it be that the Pueblo have had more contact or exposure to Catholicism than the Hopi and Zuni? So this explains the Pueblo mixing their beliefs with Catholicism? Different religious beliefs mixing isn't uncommon. In Cuba,Haiti and Brazil Catholicism was mixed with the beliefs of African slaves to form Santeria in Cuba,Vodou in Haiti and Candomble in Brazil.
***** I am from one and it isn't about being rude, its about what is true. No need to get offended.
@@drizzant23 most pueblo people are mixed with Spanish hence why most pueblo today look hispanic. It doesn't mean that they arnt pueblo. Don't be an ignoramus.
@@ajax1331 I wouldn't speak for Hopi and Zuni who seem to be very authentic. Don't be retarded on the issue.
@@drizzant23 what pueblo are you from? Because I doubt you wouldn't say how you feel in real life
wonderful! thanks for posting.
