Some Friday morning railfanning as a warm up to a hot day
Prior to a neighborhood festival in Downers Grove, IL, I shot some rail footage as a warm up for the day’s activities. Here are some highlights:
An eastbound BNSF coal train running near the end of the morning Metra rush hour
A meet between a westbound Metra and an eastbound BNSF Z train
A three way meet which one of the trains was not seen. The unseen train was a single lead baretable train
Two of the Amtrak Illinois Services trains that run between Chicago, IL and Quincy, IL

On the final Sunday of April, I spent a day doing a little railfanning of my own. One of two compilations is capturing the long distance Amtrak trains heading in and out of Chicago. There was a fatal car vs train accident at this grade crossing back in 1994 that spearheaded an effort to have four quadrant gates installed. This is the only grade crossing on the BNSF Chicago Subdivision to have four quadrant gates.

That is a great catch seeing the old school blue and orange F40PH paired with the M-3. In the end both of them are still 30 year old engines
Love these views from the park in DG and also the 161 through Hinsdale. Especially since the line runs a bit NE to SW through the village
i like how the family is standing well behind the yellow tactile. this was a windy day and the gust of wind those trains generate when you’re up close can really get to you
