Everything Wrong With Our Airplane -- Abandoned Airplane Rebuild Part 3
Ive been trying to work on the aircraft and film what I can but the editing has been slacking. As you can probably tell this was filmed a few months ago. We have made quite a bit of progress since the filming of this video and i will be putting together another video shortly. Thank you to everyone that is watching/following our progress.

Is it old
This is interesting. I checked this video out a while back. Now I'm doing a similar swap (I'm going with the type S harness, conversion harness from ebay, and k pro). Everyone else on the internet had me convinced you need an aftermarket shift plate, custom line kits. They said the stock exhaust manifold wouldn't work. I was convinced you needed the $600 swap axles, and I'm assuming you stuck with the stock intermediate shaft since it wasn't mentioned. Thanks for the vid, lets see how this goes. The deadline for this car show is in two weeks.
The intermediate shaft is from a manual awd crv i think. The details are getting a little foggy its been so long ago. But shes still running great!
Yeah, this is the cheapest k swap. I have seen it's accord now, not civic bc of everything
Your transmission is from a civic or rsx… that driver side mount doesn’t fit on the accord transmission
The trans is from a newer accord '08+ which the drivers side mount fits but the rear t bracket mount does not. Had to heavily modify the rear mount to make it work.
@@kxmoto29 this video is kinda misleading... the transmission... I respect the fact that you did the 4 fuse boxes and wiring, but you should have mentioned the newer trans. Only the expensive hasport mounts will work with the older accord k24 transmission
It was an empty case we had laying around. We used all the guts from the older '04 transmission. At the time i bought the mounts i didnt realize they werent compatible with the accord transmissions. Luckily we had that trans case laying around..
How did you modify the T bracket? I have everything from an accord but don't want to pay $700 for the hasport mounts. The ebay mounts are made for k20 transmissions.
You have too
You are the only person in the planet that buy a eg subframe for 39$ come on keep it real
junkyard prices
Yep i bought everything i could from our local self serve salvage yard.
Engine not good then?
Dude back there grinding through a bank vault door.
when is the civic update 😢
I just recently purchased a 1956 cessna 182 that I am in the process of also resorting and getting back into the air.
"Hopefully not a ton of money" >.<
That was someone's pride and joy. A lot of money went into it at one time. Hopefully you get it going.
What a great video! Thanks for posting it. So looking forward to your ingenuity in finding and resolving all those issues. You are doing a good thing. I teach Math and my students will love to see your videos. Thanks for posting! Have an awesome day!!
What year GP?
Looks like 87
I have a 1947 35, SN D-819. Almost sisters!
Awesome! I'd love to see it
All things considering, it seems to be minor things that need to be replaced. A lot of tedious work. I’m in the process of restoring a 68’ Mooney. Motor is being overhauled now. I have a video of it on my channel. Good stuff dude, and nice plane 👍
You need to check the gasket of the centering cone in the OTU. that is usually the problem with being unable to go to fine pitch with the Hartzell propeller. The broken control handles is a common problem with the older Bonanzas. Tail cone is bakelite, an early composite. If the airframe is corrosion free you have a good base to start from. A long road ahead of you. It will be nice to see another E series brought back to life.
Hmmm 150k and you’ll be up and flying that’s interior rehab new door and two windows annual and new avionics and instrumentation
Windows look like they could buff out ok other than the cracked one. May have to do both sides.
Yep! We got a couple of the windows mostly cleaned up already with a buffer. I recently bought a fine buffing pad i want to go over them with yet. But they already look a thousand times better
Looks like pretty simple fixes all around! You’ll have that bird flying in no time!
Yes but we keep finding more problems as we go! Im sure you know how it is. Do you have any experience with the Hartzell hydraulic props?
@@kxmoto29 yeah we have enough experience with them to recommend you go back to electric. Lol the Hartzell is great when it works, but there’s a lot of complexity with prop, otu, governor, and t drive compared to electric which is just prop and electric pitch change motor. They say parts are hard to find, but I’ve already got enough parts for two spare propellers if I ever need them. I much prefer electric.
Yep thats the conclusion im coming to. We took the t drive off and bench tested it and it seems to work good so we are putting it back on. We put shop air pressure to the prop and it moves so im not sure why its not working.
@@kxmoto29 the props themselves seem to work very well. It’s the OTU that likes to rip itself apart for No reason. We also had a t drive shred a gear that caused the prop to get stuck in course pitch. Every component on my mother in laws prop has been overhauled twice and it’s still not working properly. I’m done messing with the hartzells.
Nice airplane, will be cool when done. Word of advise, get an electronic oil pressure transmitter. We just had the oil pressure line break behind the instrument panel. Sprayed oil everywhere behind the panel while in flight. It was a big deal, ruined every instrument and sprayed hot oil on our legs.
I've seen that happen with cars! Cant imagine how bad that would be while in the air! Thanks for the advice
Looks like this is going to be a long, hard slog to get this thing back to airworthy. Have you borescoped the engine? I'd be very curious to know if it has internal corrosion. Also, you probably want to just order a complete hose kit as those hoses all look ancient, stiff, and ready to fail. I'll be very interested in seeing what you find when you pull the interior. Good luck!
We put a borescope inside the engine and found not a speck of corrosion inside the engine. Thanks to it being in the arid climate of new mexico.
first
Yessir! Thanks for watching!
Same happened with me. Exactly like that after taking it there
I'm glad I came here. I'm only interested in seeing old aircraft flying again. I like your no nonsense approach to the video. Sweet and simple. Resurrecting an old aircraft. No story BS, no clown shoes.
I love this, this is definitely home made
Happy to see it flying again, as an airplane belongs to the air!
So cool!
I see you did not trust the oil pressure gauge
Used to work at a Beech Service Center as an A&P. Reach out if I can help.
3 cylinder is bad...
no such thing as an abandoned plane
The owner had not been out to work on it in many years so i guess you can define "abandoned" however you want. Thanks for watching!
@@kxmoto29 squatter mentality. Just take something that is not in use and call it yours. lol
Oh we paid for it fair and square and transferred ownership into our names :)
One of the best cars I ever owned! I sawed it in half and made it into a little flat bed pickup from a kit sold out of Missouri I think it was, cut all the wires inside the cab and then pulled it through the firewall losing every damn tag I had on them, but each wire was unique! I had no trouble just matching them up visually. No matter what I did to it, it always started and ran, I couldn't kill it! I hadn't even painted it yet when a guy driving by saw it, stopped and offered me 1800 cash on the spot for it, and I had only about 800 in it so away it went. A thousand bucks profit was a ton of money to a 17 year old kid then, but I miss it now.
Even the glass looks good
What cold air intake?
I pieced somthing together from leftover intercooler piping
What throttle cable u using?
The stock ek throttle cable and i made a custom bracket for it to fit.
Your 2x4 chock is on the wrong side of the wheel.....hilarious.
Ha! Yeah we were concerned the prop wash might try to pick it up and then we would have a real problem! So we moved it behind the wheel
There are chocks in front of the mains in some shots.
I love these vidoes, keep them up ! I wish I had a bonanza to fix , I love flying but renting isn’t it
In the next video I plan to go over all the known problems with it. Hopefully the list doesnt get too long! Thanks for watching!
16 months ago I bought a 1947 35 bonanza, sn D-819. Made 2 months before yours! They’re great airplanes. It will be a fun project-keep posting your progress.
Love what you’re doing to get this great find V-35 airworthy back in full flight status
It's not a "V-35." It's simply a 35 or "straight" 35 built in 1947. It's been updated with some later model features. The V35 was built in 1967-1968.
Add mineral oil once you top off your fuel tanks
Good vid really enjoyed that love seen stuff like this been given another chance to live again roll on next vid
Where do you guys find these abandoned air planes.
This one was at our local airpark. The gentleman that owned it developed medical problems that prevented him from flying
I think that's a pressure carb...if it's been sitting for any real length of time, you're going to have to rebuild the carb...OUCH ! Quite expensive, get in touch with the Bonanza Society to find a reliable rebuilder.... $2000 + to rebuild... Good luck, looks like a nice plane.
I have one in my hangar red seals
Can’t wait to see the progress.
I wish you great success.
Welcome to hell (financially)
Wait! it flew after 18 years of non flight? 😳
No that was another v tail bonanza we flew in after we bought the abandoned one.
It's a good thing that it's been in a dry climate. The biggest concern will be corrosion of the magnesium ruddervator skins. They are almost impossible to find and no certificated alternatives exist.
