#182: Stories From December's Yarn Factory Listeners
Tune in to our live recording of December's Yarn Factory Listeners at Flanagan's Irish Pub! Our focus turns to four captivating storytellers-Kevin "Mitch" Mitchell, Bri Haug, Broke Dusty, and Andy Stephens-each sharing unique narratives that paint a vivid picture of community life in Kankakee.
First, Kevin "Mitch" Mitchell recounts his unexpected dive into viral fame back in February 2019 when a hilarious Super Bowl stunt mimicking Adam Levine garnered national attention. His story offers an amusing look at how a simple Facebook post could catapult a local into the limelight, bringing joy and laughter both locally and globally.
Next, Bri Haug, a resilient cancer survivor and owner of Electric Lady Lounge, takes us on an emotional journey through her battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Facing unimaginable challenges, she found strength in art and family, ultimately transforming her struggle into a beacon of hope and activism within the community.
We then hear from Broke Dusty, or as he's known off-stage, Mitchell Ledbetter. His riveting tale revolves around an encounter with a humble yet surprisingly skilled boxer named Popcorn in McBroom Park. This story serves as a profound reminder to never underestimate the hidden talents of others.
Finally, Andy Stephens, with roots anchored in Herscher and a career at Shapiro, shares his childhood adventures and a heart-pounding prank that almost ended in disaster during a family trip. His narrative brings humor and nostalgia, capturing the essence of growing up in Kankakee County.
Through laughter, tears, and thoughtful reflections, this episode illuminates the extraordinary lives of everyday people, their triumphs, challenges, and the indomitable spirit that defines the Kankakee community. Join us for an unforgettable night at Flanagan's Irish Pub, where stories come to life and connections are made.

First
I used to live out there! This is awesome how history is uncovering itself finally
aye thats my mama!! ❤
I believe that this is where my great grandmother died in 1945. I wonder if it's still possible to get any patient records.
ah yes the party of socialism and using the mendela effect to sell stories on not news.
"reproductive rights" means the right to reproduce not the right to kill an innocent life
I have been studying a lot about state hospitals it was very insulting how they put people with any developmental disability in any institutions back in 1930 where these institutions were over crowded and people got terrible diseases and there was feces and people were bed written who gave the staff the right to abuse their patients by giving them electro shock therapy and by chaining people to chairs and whipping people and beating people.
Shout Out from Kankakee-Chicago, IL, USA! Thanks for sharing this very informative and enlighten song! AMEN-ASE!
Enjoyed the podcast! I was trying to figure out what building you broadcast out of when you were talking about other building around you.
So cool! So proud of them ❤❤❤
My homie Shane is killing it ! 🔥 Love the podcast as well!!🔥💯
I went there twice. In the area where they call it The Branden House for Inpatient Substance Abuse & Mental Health issues. I Remember my 1st time going there in 2013. I heard stories about the kitchen at the devils hour 3am, the kitchen was known for paranormal activity. Then the pay phone in that building would ring at 3am but no one would speak!! Wow!!! I know that the tunnels run under the property.
I would love to see the objects in the galleries. I love your discussion..
Awesome
She's a pretty amazing young woman.

This was interesting, I was looking for a photo of the original north entrance of the hospital.
I remember they had Peacocks at that lil zoo. Kinda hard to call it a "zoo" lol You could hear those Peacocks all thru the park .... Childhood memories :)
I enjoyed talking with Jim on the phone a few years back ... he's a true Historian of Racing in Kankakee!!

Shouting Out from Hopkins Park-Pembroke Township, IL! Thanks for your informative Kankakee Podcast! AMEN-RA!
Bill! You were my teacher in your first year at bbchs, after Bob sadly left us. I somehow found this podcast after rummaging around trying to do something as an adult. I played the trumpet and the frenxh horn (bob got me early), but I am taking percussion lessons now as an adult. My friend and neighbor, Doug Tidaback, went to class with Bob Cross at U of I, and when I was struggling, he would tell me to play long tones. I personally went to Millikin for my undergrad, and even though I didn't pursue music, it had persisted through my life as an adult. I want to let you know, though you certainly don't remember us in your first year at bbchs, you gave us so much. You filled some big big shoes. I'm sure you've moved on my this point, but if this message reaches you, I hope you know you've had lifelong influence.
Thanks you for this informative podcast!
Very informative! Thanks! Amen_RA!
