    Its funny because know and days, people believe that the earth is millions of years old. But scientists have assumed that by radio metric dating. I thank the Lord for giving us a critical thinking mind. Even our Lord in flesh, asked critical and logical questions. I pray that the Lord lets us ask questions and learn more about God, and the sacrifice done for all of mankind as a gift. Josephus even in the 1st century, during Christs time acknowledge Jesus. Even Tacitus a Roman, also. Acts 4:12 NKJV - “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” ✝️🙏✝️

    At about 12 mins you mentioned Bible translations but neglected to discuss that there are different meanings for the same word at different times and in different locations. This fact means there is no "purity" of the original text. I'll keep listening until the end because I am a student of critical thinking but at this point I'm not sure Christian and critical thinking should be used in the same sentence.

    • @mchristr
      @mchristr 3 роки тому

      The Church has always maintained that the original texts, the autographs and not the copies, are without error by virtue of their God-inspired quality. BTW, I'm a Christian who spent most of his undergrad studies in philosophy and that effort has only strengthened my belief in the Gospel.

      @@mchristr Many people benefit from faith. As long as your faith doesn't attempt to limit anyone else's freedom of action or their faith, your reverance for "inspired" writings will do no harm.

      @@badatpseudoscience And Atheism is the golden child of critical thinking? Completely untrue. Why else would teachers like Dr Liz Jackson teach such skills to her students? If faith lacked critical thinking, it would have died out long ago. But alas it has not & never will.

    Just found this interesting.....You can generally break an ambassador's duties down in to 3 main categories: 1) Diplomatic - Being the top-ranking representative of their own country to the host country in which they're stationed; conducting negotiations with the host government on behalf of their own government; representing their state in meetings and delivering messages on behalf of their own government to the host government; receiving messages and communications from the host government for relay back to their own government; being the spokesperson for their own government and its policies in the host country. 2) Ceremonial - Representing their own government to the people of the host nation at public events in that host country and being the most visible symbol of their own country, within the host country and to its public. 3) Administrative - Being the top ranking official within the embassy at which they're posted, overseeing operations at the embassy and of other diplomats and staff members. They'd often be assisted in this role by other officials at the post who would actually handle, in greater detail and more directly, such internal embassy duties but it is the ambassador who is officially the chief of the mission and top-ranking embassy official.

    Can you give me a reason why you believe that a critical thinker needs to have a Christian worldview, it seems like a nonsequitur to me.

  • @matthewvandeventer3632
    @matthewvandeventer3632 6 років тому

    Sorry, but believing is a god who built a perfect world, that got corrupted (how does something perfect get corrupted?). Then that God had to sacrifice himself to himself to forgiving anyone (because an all powerful god can't forgiving any sin without blood magic). And he did it all to save you from what he is going to do to you. That's not very good critical thinking, it seems to me like Christians have had their eyes shut with a vested interest in a promise of an eternal after life, but sometimes something that is too good to be true is not too good to be true if you have faith. The best part of this video for me was the hypocritical statement "They read things on the internet and believe it." What about things in the Bible? Sorry if I offended you, just go back to your church (the old version of safe spaces).

    This video is full of errors. No slam on the man doing the presentation, but he's parroting many of the falsehoods the anti-Mormonism crowd spouts about the church. Things like God progressing to where He is now; LDS members becoming gods of their own planets; producing spirit children; etc., etc. None of it is LDS doctrine. This man is typical of those who presume to dictate what is wrong with the church. He mentions the "law of eternal progression" which is also not LDS doctrine. LDS doctrine states that God has _always_ been God, from everlasting to everlasting (D&C 61:1). And no, LDS do not believe that God had physical sex with Mary to produce Jesus. Brigham Young held that personal opinion, but it was wrong. LDS doctrine states that Jesus was conceived just as the bible says he was - by the Holy Ghost (Luke 1:30-35). This man also claims that LDS believe Jesus was married to three women - Mary, Martha, and Mary Magdalene. Nothing in LDS doctrine or the bible supports that assumption. He also states that the Book of Mormon contradicts the Bible, but offers no examples. In reality, everything the Book of Mormon says about Jesus Christ and his teachings, the Bible agrees with. In my 20+ years of defending my beliefs on the 'net, I've heard that accusation many times, but no one has yet to show me any proof. The presenter also claims that "year after year, the Book of Mormon changes". If that were true, church members would be buying a new Book of Mormon every year, just to keep up. The reality is that there have been relatively few changes in the text of the Book of Mormon. The "thousands of changes" the anti-Mormonism crowd likes to point to were nothing more than the text of the Book of Mormon being organized into chapter and verse - a (cough-cough) "minor" item they conveniently neglect to mention. He talks about the "burning in the bosom" and attempts to show why that is not a reliable source for knowing the truth. In doing so, he is disputing Luke 24:32 ("Did not our heart burn within us, while he ctalked with us by the way, ") and also Matthew 16:17 ("And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.") How did Simon know that Jesus was the Christ? It was revealed to him via the Holy Ghost (the "burning" in the bosom). The presenter offers several scriptures for knowing the truth, but they really don't help. 1 Thess. 5:21 for example - "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Excellent advice, but that verse, by itself, does not prove the truth or falsity of anything. He also offers Acts 17, which does not help either. The best answer lies in the same means that Simon came to know that Jesus was the Christ. That "means" is the reason millions of LDS are LDS today - myself included. Sorry to say, but if you want the truth about the LDS church and it's beliefs and teachings, you won't get it from this video.

    Thank You recording this wonderful discussion, we really enjoyed watching/listening (to) it, well most of us lol. If i could ask just one favor of You in regards to any future recording such as/like this, could You please please ask the individual watching over the video camera not to be witling, knitting, sharpening pencils, tapping a pen on plastic or whatever was causing the noise? The video kept getting disrupted by some among us, randomly, breaking into discussions about what this individual was doing to create these highly irritating sounds(irritation for only a few) lol. i personally was too sick and tired too pay attention to the noise, because i was really absorbed by the discussion itself, but i did say that i would ask of You if this was possible. We truly are grateful for Your sharing of this truly interesting and informative discussion with us, and i apologize if our request makes it sound like we are being ingrates, Sorry. God Bless You for the eye opening ideas this discussion has provided for all who have the pleasure of watching the video. 👍👍 ☺ :-)
