    We run orbit motion sweeps out of condensed formations, duo with inserts, then a q counter off of that. Mesh with an orbit worked well as well as a seam route

    Love the Gift route BS. Allows the WR to attack the DB on his terms. We usually have our Center Double PS (+) technique with an "Alert" Call if there is no BS (-/0) Tech to deal with to help get as much push on the combo as possible

    Great content Coach. What are some of the tags you use for your added motions or switching responsibilities?

    • @CoachRossFootball
      @CoachRossFootball 26 днів тому

      The main motion tags I use are shift- shift opposite side of formation, jump- slot motions into backfield, bounce-Rb motions out of backfield to slot,bump- slot motions outside either to a stack or outside the X or Y, Rabbit- speed motion across formation, slide - only for sniffers and orbit. I know it seems like a lot of motions but I incorporate them very early so they get used to them

    For your Snag out of bunch, if you have the H run the snag route and either z or y run the corner you can still get that crossing effect but I guess that might be breaking one of your core rules when I think about it in terms of responsibilities.

    • @CoachRossFootball
      @CoachRossFootball Місяць тому

      Yeah I definitely thought about that. But I stayed with this idea because I wanted to make it as easy for the kids to understand and not necessarily have to memorize. My thought was that if I could have them understand that if I play a certain position then my role essentially doesn’t change no matter what set or formation we’re in. The only thing that changes is their position on the field.

    1. Stick 2. Counter 3. Power 4. Tunnel Screen 5. Four Verticals I agree with this list although my 5 would substitute Inside Zone for Counter simply because there's so much you can do with IZ in your offense.

    • @CoachRossFootball
      @CoachRossFootball Місяць тому

      Yeah I’m with you too I really like IZ and it’s a staple in my offense. However the gap schemes are a little easier to teach early on which is why I would start out with power, and counter. I wouldn’t want to mix a zone scheme with a gap scheme right from the jump. IZ wouldn’t be far behind though. Totally agree with its versatility.

      Absolutely. I’ve coached with a coach primarily a wing-t guy and we used air raid principles in the passing game aside from the usual wing T pass plays like waggle or divide. The trick is finding a few you’re good at and teach the grass principles and reading space. Key is practice.

      I don’t have a playbook for 7v7. We typically run our normal stuff in 7v7. Like snag, stick, smash, fade out vs cover 2 and 3. Mesh and shallow vs man switch routes with 4 verts. Typically use our base formations out of 2x2, 3x1, and empty

    Hey Coach, been loving this series really appreciate you taking the time to put all of this together. I coach highschool in Canada, so we play CFL rules with 12 players on each side (and a wider and longer field). Do you think that the Air Raid would work in that setting? The main difference is there would usually be an extra DB to cover in that overhang position and the OLB would have the RB out of the backfield. I'm thinking our base would be Ace but with 2 split rbs. I really hope you get this message and can provide some advice! Thanks again, really appreciate everything

    • @CoachRossFootball
      @CoachRossFootball 3 місяці тому

      I’m glad you enjoyed the series. And I hope it’s been helping. I think the air raid could work in your situation. The air raid relies on space. What better to help then with a wider field for a defense to defend. You can do a lot with that extra player. What I might do is use a player deep in your concept to occupy the safety to that side of the field and from there you take one defender out and you’ll have your typical triangle read.

    • @gregk7916
      @gregk7916 3 місяці тому

    • @CoachRossFootball
      @CoachRossFootball 6 місяців тому

      The base schedule would look the same as far as the flow. I would cut out a couple of the situation periods like first and third down, and replace them with straight team reps on air or with the kids you have a makeshift front seven for one series and then a back 7 for another series. The focus on Indy or group would be a lot of fundamentals and less scheme. I would drop the mesh and rpo periods and extend screen and ROA periods.

    This is super helpful! I actually came up with a similar drill but I like the idea of 2 QBs and splitting the field. Thanks coach!

    Have a variation with a backside tight end rather than the Z...might be easier for the D to lose from time to time

      I agree. TE hidden backside could be a good variation. Especially at the middle school level.

    Hello Coach, how does front recognition by either the QB or C factor into o line pass blocking? What kind of concepts are better for BOB vs half slide? What are the factors in choosing to BOB vs half slide? Do you let your QB or C call the pass protection? What is the "normal" O line depth and splits (not the leachian splits, but the way it is shown in your diagrams?) Go army edge puts everyone initially at the line, but why is it most common to have a little depth and width?

      With BOB pass pro particularly your 3 interior (2G’s and C) linemen are responsible for nearest defender to their inside gap. Tackles protect B-C gaps. QB is responsible for Mike. RB typically if he’s in pass pro would pickup most dangerous off weakside edge. This is how I teach it. I feel that BOB is best overall be a in our offense we want the ball gone as fast as possible, combine that with our line splits and depth it gives us more time. I would say half slides are best for those traditional drop back passes where the full field is in play, and the slide shores up backside protection. Typically don’t let QB or C change or mess with protection, the basic rules typically are good enough to provide protection. We do have them communicating though with what they see, strengths and pressures etc. There is no one size fits all rule with regards to splits and depth. I like the 3 foot splits and having the next most outside linemen line his toe with the nearest interior linemen’s heel. The idea with wide splits and trying to stretch depth as far as possible is that more space creates more time. Just because you linemen have backed up a bit doesn’t mean the d line can move up, they can’t cross the LOS. So you’ve created just a little more distance and coupled with your linemen getting into vertical drops that’s just that much further a d linemen has to go before he engages and truly gets into his pass rush. Then by using wide splits you essentially have the d line widen out which puts every d linemen further from the QB creating more space. D line has to respect their gaps otherwise you simply pinch them inside all game and run outside until they adjust.
