A good one indeed, but again not that "lost masterpiece" a few sites are claiming (that German one "Der Film Noir" give it 5/5, for example). The problem starts with the fact that it is a 2-fer. Two movies in one and that at convenient 84 minutes (I like "short" ones that go to the point: a good 90 minutes thrill ride is always a pleasure). But you can´t fully develop the potential of a story in just 40 minutes. The first one starts really really well and both have lotta atmospehere, great cinematography, also the score and the acting is pretty up there (IMHO), but the first one lacks a bit, because I´d REALLY wanna know what the sisters troubles were. So the fact that - SPOILER - he shot the wrong guy and it´s never explained why and so on makes this look a bit like a "cheap twist". Would this not be a short (also the Woolrich story that´s the source), the story could well go on and the brother could find out what is behing all what´s been done to his sis. I give this 6/10. The second one is better: a possessive mom considers her hubby to be rather/better dead than "not hers" (a look into the past) and also has those very same feelings about her no-good son, who makes a short stop at her house to recover from a not-gone-well robbery. Same production values, but a more satisfying ending. I rate this 7/10. It was well worth recovering them from oblivion and I am glad I saw them. But I would not put them up there with the best. Far from. Certainly above average and well made, but no masterpieces. I´d give it, the movie, on a scale of 0 to 5, a 3 /1/2.

Un chef d'oeuvre de leurs périodes du muet Stan et Ollie en 1928 sont déjà un duo formidable et très aimé du public qui ne si trompent pas de plus ce court métrage est mêlé entre comédie et épouvante. Stan et Ollie les rois du rires éternels et intemporels pour des siecles.

Existing prints of the film have always been very grimy so such a restoration is very welcome.

Notice the soundtrack features " Funeral March of a Marionette", later to become the theme tune for the TV series "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".

The original soundtrack seems to be in perfect sync with the beautifully-restored image. Great work!

0:40 is from Two Tars. For some reason, every print I have ever seen of it always looks like 16mm, soft and generations removed from the camera negative. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has a 35mm fine grain master positive in it's holdings. I wonder if their print is superior to what we have all seen thus far.

I love old films like this. The silent era is fascinating to me

The more I see and read into this little vlassic, the more I can see the horror and dim meaning behind all the frolicking. But that's what I love about it!

I was a kid when I saw this first Cinerama film in 1955 at the Paris Empire Cinerama theater. I remember it as if it was yesterday, I was grabbing my seat during this first roller-coaster sequence ! Later, I have seen all of the real Cinerama films, but the Brothers Grimm one. I don't consider 70mm films as real Cinerama films, the shooting angle isn't wide enough to provide the Cinerama effect. I have also seen two Kinopanarama films, the USSR copy of Cinerama.
