Founded by award-winning, Halifax-based author, Anne Louise O'Connell, OC Publishing is a hybrid publishing company that partners with authors and guides them through the book editing and publishing process to bring their book from story idea and outline, through plot and character development, to finished manuscript and publication. OC Publishing creates a book development program for each author's journey. The genres that we publish include women’s fiction, mystery/suspense, memoir, historical fiction, YA, first readers, and children’s picture books.
On this channel, we highlight authors (indie, self-published, traditionally published, first time, and veterans) by sharing stories of their journeys, their writing processes, and where their inspiration comes from; and also invite industry experts to discuss the writing and publishing process, book marketing and promotions. If you'd like to be interviewed or want to suggest a topic, email anne@ocpublishing.ca.

That's quite the diverse lineup of guests on The Author Journey, not to mention OC Publishing's authors who had new titles released, and debut authors to come in 2025! Congratulations on another busy year, Anne. 👏
Thanks, Bruce!
Matthew mentions his podcast Pilgrimage Stories from Up and Down the Staircase that you can hear on Apple podcasts - podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/pilgrimage-stories-from-up-and-down-the-staircase/id1525283078
Thanks for the great interview! Always love chatting with you!
You're very welcome! I enjoyed our chat too. Can't wait 'til your next book comes out :)
Can't wait to read it!
Thanks for having me on Anne!
Always a pleasure, Jon :)
Opening credits are fun, and it was a great convo with Jon!
Thanks for watching, Bruce!
I loved Elizabeth's illustration of the cat with her fur cost on.
Here's a walk through of the PIP shop they did during the interview. I think you'll agree, it's a wonderful display! facebook.com/PartridgeIslandPublishingInc/videos/900954675188267
Interesting. Wondering if either of you have read any books by Nova Scotia author Ernest Buckler? When I lived in NB, one of the novels in our English class was called’ The Mountain and the Valley’. From memory, one sentence:” It was as if another glass, beyond the glass of the window pane, covered everything, made touch between any two things impossible.” That sentence, and the next one, about old Herb Hennessy ( can’t recall it enough to quote it; read it in 1975), stuck with me since then. Buckler always worked hard to find the exactly perfect word in his descriptions. For admirers of beautifully written prose, this book is memorable. Highly recommend it. Have either of you read it? It would, imo, be a nice candidate for an audiobook read by a Nova Scotian. He was from the Valley, I believe.
You have an amazing memory! I will have to add Ernest to my 'to read' list. Thanks :)
Great episode! Just enough about each book to have me intrigued and adding them all to my TBR pile!
Me too! Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful rendition of 2023!
Thanks so much! 2024 has been equally amazing so watch for our highlight reel at year end.
What a lovely discussion! :)
Hi Raya, I thoroughly enjoyed it myself :) Glad you were able to tune in. I can't wait to read Amanda's next book.
I am a big fan of Dr. Renee Asarraf! Glad you featured her.
I really enjoyed interviewing her! I wish she was a vet in my town, I would defintely take my fur baby to her :)
@@OCPublishing Me too! I love that she shares her knowledge with so many other veterinarians though. Even if your pet isn't seeing her, they may well have been one guided by her! I think that's awesome.
"Dive into the inspiring world of writing with Hollay Ghadery in this captivating Author Journey interview!"
Thanks for having me on the series!
It was great having you. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation!
Thanks for sharing the wonderful interview. I have spoken with Dorothy since we met at a Christmas market in Waverly. So great to see she's doing well.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the interview! Dorothyanne is such a delight :)
Just a quick edit... Dorothyanne didn't do her nursing training in the 40s... it was in the 70s :) My apologies!
NEW SUBSCRIBER: Hi Anne, thank you so much for hosting this interview. Mr. Hill, thank you so much for doing the interview! I am so blessed every time I see one of your interviews. You have the Midas touch for wisdom, and I think it's mainly because you don't search out interviews to make yourself look good but you genuinely want people to enjoy language, reading, exploring, and sharing books. You have become my favorite author because I can see how much you just love to write for the joy of writing AND having others READ. That's WONDERFUL! And I'm also a fan of your in-depth research. When I read The Book of Negroes, I was flabbergasted; I truly felt someone out there knew MY book language and style, and it was a MARVELOUS feeling. As a new writer, I was bumfuzzled as to the seemingly, hard road historical authors have when trying to publish a book. I'm NOT an upmarket, commercial, get-it-done-fast writer because my writing incorporates so much historical research. I'm amazed this genre ever gets published. But hearing you say "it will probably take me about 2-3 years" to get your new work finished and published was SO encouraging to me. I don't know... it just meant so much. It's hard to know you're on the right path when so many around you are publishing 3-4 books/year, or at least 1 book/year. When I tell them I'm still working on a book I started 2 years ago, they look at me like I'm crazy. Even in my writing group (of all sci-fi and horror writers), they just don't understand. I'm so glad there are writers like you who show the reality of writing this genre (and/or any genre) where you're doing in-depth research and/or using rarely-used and/or imaginary language. I am American, however, if I ever get the chance to attend one of your presentations, I would be so pleased. Canada is not that far though, eh? (yes, I'm corny for using my "written" Canadian accent)! Again, thank you so much for sharing; this was truly inspiring and I'M going to buy a few copies of Beatrice and Croc Harry (for my grandchildren AND for me)! I can't wait to read the Alaska Yukon story; it sounds so interesting. And writing a book about your experience helping inmates write their stories should be done. Fifteen years gives you license to do so in my opinion. God Bless.
Great episode. Looking forward to the fair😊

Thanks Tony! That's very kind of you. I'm glad you're enjoying The Author Journey!
Great interview- I can't wait to get my copy!!! Congratulations Barb and Elizabeth!
Thanks Christine! I'm sure Barb will bring copies to the retreat, unless we get together before that :) Thanks for watching!
I love how this idea came to Lana Shupe unexpectedly in a random travel experience! I find the same thing happens in my process as an author. I love the illustrations and how they bring the beautiful writing to life. It sounds like a great story full of colorful characters and strong messages for children.
Amazing interview thx!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Two fabulous ladies who do so much for the Nova Scotia writing community!!
As you do too, Sarah :) Thanks for watching and for your unwavering support! Happy writing!
Fantastic interview!
Thanks Dawn! So glad you enjoyed it. Jessica is amazing :)
In the interview I mention APE: Author Publisher Entrepreneur and it is by Guy Kawasaki...great book!
I used to know Vicky Deodato, and although I have not personally seen her in decades, the one thing that I will always remember about her is her love for animals and their rights. I was not surprised at all to learn she had written this book. She is a beautiful person ❤
I had so much fun chatting with her and we have a lot in common. I love the message in her book and her passion for animal rights and the environment certainly comes through in person too.

Awesome! My kids and I love the Homemade Halloween Costume Dilemma!
It's such a fun read! What's your favourite costume? I just bought the chupacabra t-shirt from James's Spring shop! my-store-cb7dc7.creator-spring.com/
Here’s to a remarkable 2023!
Thanks Scott!
Wow! Christine is my cousin! So proud of her.
She's amazing!
This was very informative and interesting to listen to. Thrilled you have 13 reviews on Amazon already Apple! And I'm also delighted to know you had a positive experience with Vine Leaves Press. Thank you both for sharing your stories and insight.
Love the messages Cindy shares with children through her character Lily the donkey, to believe in yourself and follow your heart.
Fantastic interview with my mom Francene Cosman! We are so proud of her and hope your viewers will enjoy her book. Way to go Mama!!!
Thanks Lara! Your mother is an amazing lady and it's been my honour and great pleasure to work with her on this project :)
Anne, I absolutely loved this interview! I was engaged from the beginning to the end and loved the rapport between Lawrence and you. I found myself wishing the three of us were in a coffee shop, talking shop. Thank you!
OMG, wouldn't that be wonderful??!!! He's such a joy to listen to and his work is phenomenal.

I really enjoyed this interview; captured from beginning to end and now I need to add two more titles to my growing must-read list. It may topple over soon, as I seem so consumed with writing instead of reading these days, but I know the two go together. I have to agree with the advice of finding your authentic voice and telling the story only you can tell. Thank you!
I was great advice and she's such an engaging speaker too :) Thanks for watching!
Great conversation. Looking forward to reading Nicola's books!
Thanks for watching Carol. You will love them!!!
Wonderful interview. All the best of luck on your book tour, Lynda.
Thanks for watching! I alway enjoy my interviews with Lynda. So uplifting and inspirational :)
I tried Scrivener twice, but I couldn't get into it. I decided I didn't need to learn yet another program to write. MS Word does everything I want. I already knew how to use styles, and by using headings in styles allows me to move things around. I use HEADER 1 for chapters and HEADER 2 for scenes within chapters. This allows me to rearrange any of those sections with a click and drag. Another great discussion with two wonderful people. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! I really enjoyed the discussion myself :) I know lots of writers who love Scrivener but it's not for me. I'm with you...MS word does everything I need.
Awesome interview. I write a lot like Sarah. I just sit and write, and the characters tell me the story. Elizabeth Gilbert did a TED Talk about the genius in the wall. I fully believe she is correct.
Me too! That is, when I'm wearing my author hat, which is rare these days :) I love that Elizabeth Gilbert TED Talk! I think I need to re-watch it. Thanks for watching our Author Journey. Sarah is an inspiration for sure!
@@OCPublishing, I like to watch Gilbert's video every year or two. It is inspiring.
Thank you for hosting, Anne Louise. All these authors are so interesting and wonderfully passionate!
Thanks Sarah! I have so much fun doing these. I'm looking forward to our chat!
Three amazing women on one show!! Thank you for all of your support for Canadian authors.
A wonderful interview. Thank you. All the books sound interesting, but if I had to choose one question to answer to enter to win, it would be for "Rise! A Girl's Struggle for More". Ruby's favourite place to read was the upstairs landing alcove.
Excellent! Thanks so much. You'll be entered into the draw on Friday so stay tuned :)
Wonderful interview. Thank you. Personally, I don't feel that writing a book is a lonely journey. It's a solo journey. It can be lonely for some and not others. It's not for me.
That's so true. The writing experience varies dramatically from author to author. When I'm in the writing zone, I tend to feel the company of my characters, so never feel lonely :)
Thanks so much for this! Marianne is a super editor. She’s very supportive of the writer’s vision, and as she states, a helper. Very interesting info here.
She is amazing! And, so great to work with :)
Congrats, Rachel!
