For finding a shed antler they do put a scent on the rosette of the antler. It is a wax you can buy off amazon - Dokken's Rack Wax Dog Training Scent. You can take the tube to the competition and let your dog smell it before he goes to find the antler. But once they associate the word "antler" with what they are looking for you wouldn't need to do that anymore.

@Magic’s Momma Thanks I'm going to pick some up. I have a few sheds I could put it on. I have been using clove oil for training and he does know to search for that using keywords. But this will be his attempt with a new scent to search for and I would like to train the same way I did with the clove so he learns the words. When the trial I want to go in comes around he might be shy of being able to find it without the scent first.. Thank you again for the information I really appreciate it. We are both new to this and loving it

@@rikkigiving5315 You are very welcome and good luck in your trial. I'm sure he will do just fine. We are self taught and compete in NASDA Trial and he is up to Shed Dog Level 2 working toward Level 3.
