Videos on mostly rock bands and artists in the 20th Century, delivered with my usual opinionated, nonsensical rambling, peppered with too many "you knows," and awkward pauses - all spoken too fast to be comprehensible. The show showcases my CD collection as I don't really do vinyl anymore. Since virtually every other middle-aged (I'm older than that, actually) guy doing a UA-cam channel on rock music utilizes vinyl LPs, I'm proud to be one of the CD holdouts!

First saw this amazing band on the tour of the hemispheres and saw them 25 times. All in the UK. Caught them 4 nights on the moving pictures jaunt. Great band. Really miss them. Have a great weekend.
Great video!
Todd Rundgren is a genius. And my personal hero. I mostly agree with what you say. The 17 first minutes of Treatise though, are a great electronic music suite. The rest of the track, meh... Yeah, not a fan either of side one of Faithful. What was the point ? Side 2 is great indeed.
Great insights into the Byrds career and solo flights. The Byrds were in the vanguard of creating Folk-Rock, Jazz-Rock, the Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter movement, Raga-Rock, Psychedelia and Country-Rock. They certainly were pioneering innovators that for a couple of years, gave the Beatles a run for their money. Fun & informative presentation!
Hendrix was quoted in one of his last interviews, that he wanted to be remembered as being a Blues guy.
You’re right - Bowie was a kind of religion here in Britain - 72-80. I was a worshipper. I agree, after 80 his music went downhill, and never recovered until, maybe, 1995. Certainly Blackstar is as good as half a dozen 70s albums, though not quite up there with Low, Station to Station, or Ziggy Stardust.
I wasn’t into Let it Be Naked either.
I agree Waterloo Sunset is the best. Top 3 bands in the 60s: The Who The Kinks The Beatles
He made the flute so cool!!
N.I.B.doesn’t stand for nativity in black .it describes Bill Wards beard
Wake is almost a remnants of Court, but not nearly as strong. Hard for an album to be as strong as one of the greatest albums ever... They do sound similar though. Lizard, and possibly Islands, would sound classic if their other albums weren't MORE classic, like you said. Nice to throw in the Giles disc in the conversation to make it complete, along with Fripp's other ventures. Thanks for covering Crimson live too. Wouldn't know about most of the stuff beyond standard releases. Ultimately, a band with this much talent, in any of its carnations, would not leave the listener disappointed.
1970's Aerosmith great
Nazz III has all of Todd's lead vocals replaced by Stewkey except for You Are My Window. Todd wanted more leads which I think was the main reason Nazz split up. Todd's lead vocals have popped up in some retrospectives and anthologies which is pretty cool to hear. Most of them are good.
Lots to cover: I'll try in order. Brad did a co-solo release. One Way is fantastic. Toys riff! No More is classic Aero. You see me is solid. Back and Last, yes! Rats! Sick! Get, Lick and Home! Hand is one of their most underrated songs! Great illustration for Draw!! Live Bootleg is solid! (Was at the Toys performance👍🏻) Two solid guitarist!!!!The cover for Night was for Chip Away 45 release that they didn't use. No Surprise is solid. Three mile is solid. Reefer cover, solid. Greatest hits is a mess. (Their second best seller 😬) Joe's first two were solid! Joe's and Ralph's version of Let us outstanding. (Jack Douglas producing) BTW, I've got by Joe is has some outstanding tracks. Charlie in vocals and contributed two solid songs. Title track of Rock is vintage Aero, it's the production that blows. Classics are 80's. 2 was at The Orpheum in Boston. They were contact obligation releases. Gems is solid, Done has Let and My and Permanent is definitely the one that launched into the biggest comeback in music history. Pump has some great songs and Get us their biggest seller. Great director helped three of their music videos off of this solid release. Dig that you met them on Ventura!
It actually wasn't Ventura, it was the old Tower Records (no longer there) on Sunset Blvd. I frequently get stuff mixed up in these videos. Thanks for commenting!
I talk to the wind
They were in high school when they did their first album. 11th and 12th grade are called 6th form college there. 17-18 years old.
Top quality content, I do like come taste the band , to me it's a very good album, it's just doesn't seem like purple
Genesis Live 1973 best live album, I have a copy that has Suppers Ready on it.
Interesting. I wonder what copy that would be?
@@lancewilson7038It was on the DVD as a bonus track of the CD/DVD combo disk of Genesis Live in the box set.
Wind & Wuthering is their last robust album. I agree with you regarding Trespass - it is excellent. Nursery Cryme is my favourite album closely followed by Foxtrot. I’m not much of a fan of Lamb Lies Down…
The Byrds are my favourite american band. I've been listening to them since their very beginning in the 60's. Because of them I became a, say, fanatic for the country-rock style of music. So I became myself an avid collector of related albums of groups like The Flying Burrito Bros, Dillard & Clark, Manassas, The Desert Rose Band....... and too many from groups like Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Grateful Dead, Commander Cody & his Lost Planet Airmen, Poco, etc, etc, etc....... God bless The Byrds!
Yep, all those bands are good...
Nice recap, i will highly suggest you get No Earthly Connection by Rick that came out in 1976 it is a fantastic album. In 1970 Jon and Vangelis release Short Stories, in 1980 Jon Released Song of Seven, in 81 Jon and Vangelis released their second album Friends of Mr Cairo.
And You And I got lots of radio play where I am from.
Dram is very underappreciated indeed. Into the Lens, Tempis Fugit are fantastic. Epic.
That was really good. I'm a big Bill Bruford fan and thought Alan White was a bad choice. But, having said that, I loved "Relayer". It would've been interesting, to hear what Bill Brufords style of drumming fitted in, on that album. I also thought "Fish Out Of Water" was up there with "Close To The Edge" and "Fragile". King Crimson three in a row "Larks Tongues in Aspic", "Starless And Bible Black" and "Red" Just saying. Anyway, enjoyed your Video, keep them coming.
Very knowledgeable, great info and perspective. I think that both Deep Purple and Rod Evans (Captain Beyond) did greater things once they parted company. I agree that 'Machine Head' was the band's magnus opus.
21:10, Patrick Moraz is Swiss, not Swedish.
Great presentation of the prog giants.
I was sceptical going into this video but you won me over. This was a really good presentation and I was surprised you went with many of the solo stuff (although Howe’s solo stuff was good too). While unusual sounding on vinyl, Tormato was absolutely spectacular live on stage - Yes in the round, I think 78- 79 tours. Future Times -> Rejoice, On the Silent Wings of Freedom, Don’t Kill the Whale live on stage was really, really energetic and inspiring live on that round, slowly spinning stage. I also enjoyed Drama and Yesshows. Asia was an album I didn’t love but enjoyed the live shows. Thanks for the enjoyable video!
And Bruford played on "Fish out of Water", as well as Moraz. And Bruford and Moraz played together as well. Bruford also supported some of Steve Howe's solo efforts.
Yep, Bill toured with Genesis too.
@@lancewilson7038 - Great concert video. And what of 1975's release of "Yesterdays"? Great cover of "America".
@@ajones957 Yeah, you're right! Forgot about that one.
Gotta add Rush to your top bands, and Rush had a longer run of great prog albums...
Rush, to me, changed with whatever was the fashion, at the time. Which is fine, they couldn't keep producing "2112", into the 1980's. Plus, most bands, that were big in the 1970's sounded aweful, in the 1980's, look at the 'Stones' But, I can only listen to Rush for a short period. The voice dose my head in.
Always good to hear about Yes
The second Flash album is nowhere near as good as the first
This Yes fan had no idea about either until this video.
The Top is one of their best albums. The thing is - The Top was written while he was doing a lot of drugs. Robert played all the instruments (except the drums and a sax part) on that album. But from the day Pornography was released - Japanese Whispers, The Glove, Nocturne, Hyaena and The Top were all completed within the next two 2 year period. It kinda reflects the mind of a man losing grip with reality to an extent. But tracks like Shake Dog Shake, Birdmad Girl, Caterpillar, Empty World, Piggy in the Mirror - and the B-sides of this era - are just amazing. Pornography is probably their best album, there's nothing else out there like it - it captures something dark that nothing else does - but it bombed when it released. It only sold 50,000 copies.
The first Iggy Pop album I ever owned was "The Idiot". I wound up having to mail order the Stooges LPs as French and U.K. imports because in 1977 you were not going to find the Stooges at your local record shop. I agree that after the 70's Iggy never released a truly great album. I think it was "Zombie Birdhouse" that finally made me throw in the towel.
Plus at 'Pornography' tour time I know they toured Canada them , because I Rey meeting a Canadian in Manchester who was a fan and had seen them tour there then..
I am English and I can confirm that the 'goth' look came in in the UK just after , or around the 17 seconds , Faith time . I know because I followed the Cure then , and saw them several times then, and I was a goth!
Did you ever have Concert & Curiosity ? Lots of demos and concert recordings. There was another one called Quadpuss but i remember it being an EP related to Head on The Door.
Nope, sorry. I showed every Cure disc I own. The Disintegration triple CD has the entire Entreat live album, but that's the only thing I forgot to mention.
Nice video...got Vinyl?
No, not really. In my description of the channel I say that most guys doing this kind of show use vinyl LPs, but I show CDs because it's my chosen format. I do have an original Sgt Pepper's US LP, which I just forgot to show for some reason.
just found this tremendous stream and tremendous channels and i subscribed 👍👍
Live 84 has no volume really
Family Man was horrible, the others were great (except What if)
I thought you were gonna play music!
LOL! I don't even know if I can. Is that legal?
Funny I was, looking at some lots i bought a,while ago...And found 8 jeff beck cds ,8 yardbirds cds with jeff, jimmy page and Eric Clapton....good stuff.Alot of it us German,English, Australian issues...
Live in 69 is a superb live album.
Thanks for your review. I think Sebastian was one of the best songwriters of the mid 60s. One of my biggest unansswered mysteries in life is why that ability ran out of gas. He later became more introspective which eventually weighed down his songwriting perhaps, becoming an acquired taste. Still, not bad though until Forur Of Us. Perhsonally, I believe Four OF Us is the weakest of the solos. It's like a home movie that a friend forces you to watch lol. Tarzana Kid's first side is good, but the second side is total filler. Welcome Back, for me --- and perhaps nobody else it seems, was a return to form. He doesn't take himself as seriously as he did on his last two solos from that time. I could hear Zally's influence on One Step Forward. She's Funny is better than all of Four of Us and Tarzana Kid combined. Hideaway is a mid 70s attempt at a pop tune that almost works albiet it didn't chart very well. Dolly Parton later covered I Needed You Most When I Told You To Go I beilieve. A Song a Day In Nashville is Sebasitan's introspective songwriting at its best. The downside for me is that it's really Sebasitan's last ... so far ... and I've been waiitng since the mid 70's..... By the time of Tar Beach in the 90s, Sebastian was already losing his voice and I believe his songwriting reflected that limitation, weakening the formula. The J-Band and Satisfeid were more satifiying later works in some ways that utilized his vocal change, but were all collaborations with few original tunes. Overall, I wish he continued to write. My Passing Fantasy from the 90s is perhaps his most recent original song and even that has its charms. At any rate, thanks for allowing me this time to vent. I still have the Spoonful era that I cherish, including Everything Playing and his first solo album + Welcome Back, so I shouldn't complain.
Thanks for the review! Maybe I should give Tarzana Kid and Welcome Back another try then.
Thanks for the video! Pretty Things need more ❤️
PS There's a very good "The BBC Sessions" CD, it's well worth a listen ....... and bravo for featuring this band !!
Thanks, Peter. I showed the BBC Session box at the end of the video.
Parachute is one of my favourite all time records ..........for lots of reasons, not just the music.
I always liked the LP cover
Great video, and an excellent history lesson. Fleetwood Mac Rumors / Tusk / Say You Will / Stevie - is my favorite music. So there's at least one dude!
