Jon Pontrello - Beneath the Surface // Bazantar Soundpaint

I made this track "Beneath the Surface" using Soundpaint's new virtual Bazantar. It is an acoustic upright bass 5 strings for playing, and about 30 sympathetic strings to resonate when the main strings are played similar to a sitar. On this track you can hear it plucked, bowed and tapped. It is literally a one-of-a-kind instrument built by Mark Deutsch. Its a lot of fun to play and you can get ...

      @@JonPontrello Mainly melodies for a solo part. I am a Bassist and can read notation though my Treble clef reading isn't very fast (yet) I also understand most musical language so 3rds, dominate 7ths, 9ths etc are not lost on my. I just purchased an 8 string SX and have it tuned in C6 (A,C,E,G,A,C,E,G) Low to high. Any tips or tricks are appreciated. I have my chord pairs down pretty well C and Am, D and Bm etc. Thanks for the reply.

      @@TKelly-js3os my advice for any instrument, but especially steel guitar is to learn "the harmonized scale" aka all the triads for one key. For instance, C major, Dminor, Eminor, F Major, ect. Learn all these in one place, then learn how to play all those same chords in different places aka different inversions. Start playing songs where you just play the chords. For me the secret of playing music is understanding the relationship between chords and melody. Once you have a good understanding of all the triads in a key and different positions for playing each chord, you will then have the foundation to start picking out the notes from a chord to play a melody. This is just the beginning! Good luck! I will share a link that may be helpful in another comment

    Why so few views and likes This is AMAZINGLY EASY TO COMPREHEND AMD APPLY circle of fifths scrambles my thinking Here the explanation actually plants something that can grow over time with a little sun little moisture and a bit of fertilizer

    • @JonPontrello
      @JonPontrello Рік тому

      The circle of 5ths has its place, but it is more advanced and less practical. I agree with you though, the most practical and easy to use tools should be learned first. They give a foundation to start to understand the circle of 5ths and how it can be useful. This video is part of an 8 part tutorial that I think you would enjoy. I am working on a more professional and refined version of this concept that I will hopefully get the chance to make sometime this year. Thanks for your interest!

      nice work! They are rare, but an experienced tuner should be able to figure it out. Tuning is an art and takes a while to learn, so try and call someone else who has more experience. Makes such a difference when its tuned properly! Sounds so sweet
