    Why make the video? Who cares if you sold your bike? Shouldn't a video bring value to the audience? We're interested in comparative ride reviews, but not in the fact you sold your bike, especially as it doesn't qualify as a (would be useful) analysis of depreciation and residual value analysis.

      They are too close to keep both bikes and the sl8 is a little more comfortable. Sl8 also rewards more power with little more speed as it’s so light

      Think the Ostro is better all round, bit more exclusive

    • @addictcyclist

      @@johnpattison46totally agree it’s more exclusive but specialized nailed it with this version. The lightness with all of the added comfort while still being stiff is pretty impressive. The ostro 2 is decently light but it’s all in the new wheels. Cyclespeedtours had the ostro v2 almost 400g heavier in the frameset.

    Im wondering if you’ll try an S-Works version of the SL8 which hasnthe Fact 12r carbon fiber. The pro version only uses tge Fact 10r. Cause ostro vam has the highest kind of carbon fiber they used.

      Don’t let the marketing get you haha I have a friend that totaled his sl8 pro and replaced with s works and can’t tell the difference. Yes factor uses the highest mod carbon but the sl8 pro soaks up road better. We are not pros and most will never be able to tell the difference from carbon used. I rode a friends high mod cannondale system six, and I purchased a regular system six. Can’t tell.

    Really enjoying your off the cuff first impressions of this bike so far. Can you touch a little more on your issues with compressing the stack and why you added the extra 5mm on top. I’m looking at getting this exact bike and comparing with my current geometry. I know I’m going to need 25mm-35mm under the stem. All the press photos of this bike have the stem slammed so I was curious what you start out with when you buy it and how much adjustment it has. Thanks!

    • @addictcyclist
      @addictcyclist 6 днів тому

      Hey! Thank you! My builder went with all 35mm spacers when bike was built because that mirrored my fit on the factor. I wanted to get a little lower on this sl8 than my factor. I removed a 10mm spacer but because how the compression works and the top cap of the integrated stem sits, I had to use 15mm of round spacers. The compression plug was close and the round tip cap. The round cap I used had a v shape it was hitting the plug and not compressing all the way. The extra 5mm was able to give the room to compress the headset. There is about a 3mm spacer that has to be used when running g the other spacers that scoop up the cables which sits right under the stem. In total it’s about 38mm of spacers if use them all from the box. It sat too high for me and made the handling too twitchy. Plus the sl8 was 9mm shorter too tube and the bar reach is 75mm vs 80mm on my factor. I could easily go a little lower on the sl8

    • @VanduraTwentyfive
      @VanduraTwentyfive 6 днів тому

      @@addictcyclist Thanks for that info! If I'm understanding right, the integrated stem cap may not work so well if you need some spacers above the stem, so you needed to use a round cap, and the bottom of that round cap is a V (conical?) shape, and that cone shape was hitting the compression plug in the steerer tube so you needed another 5mm to give some clearance. Does this mean when you're playing with stack height and need any spacers above the stem then you'll need a different cap to make it work and once you get your height dialled you can cut your steerer and use the integrated cap. Thanks again! Looking forward to more of your thoughts and experiences on this bike!

    • @addictcyclist
      @addictcyclist 6 днів тому

      @@VanduraTwentyfivenailed it! I just cut it finally. Removing the 10mm spacer I needed to use a FSA round cap and spacers until dialed in. The cap on the integrated bars sits on top of the step vs a round cap that has a conical base. Why I needed 15mm of spacers for removing a 10mm spacer under.

Maybe 70% friction in bearings comes from seal it self then 20% grease a the rest is bearing itself, so ceramic bearing spins because they have no seals and it takes like 5min in rain and ceramic bearings are done. I think this hack is the best balance between performance and durability and you save a lot of cash as a bonus :).

    I've was a little let down by the SL8 coming from a pinarello. I have a paris, and i felt like that bike holds speed better. I've since bought a Pinarello F5. I dont need the higher grade carbon b/c my bike is 43 and the bike would be to stiff. I have both the F5 and SL8 at 15 pounds. I agree the SL8 is very snappy and absorbs road buzz well. The F5 also absorbs the road buzz well, but like you say it still has that weighty feeling in the back. I prefer the F5, but I appreciating the SL8 more now that I put super narrow bars on it. It has totally transformed the way the bike corners and holds speed. Looking forward to your fast ride review. I feel like the SL8 begins to sutter once it goes above 23mph.
