Pacuare River Packrafting (Costa Rica)

Packrafting the Pacuare River with Scott and Cody. Heavy rainfall in the days prior produced high flow - denoted only by water depth around a particular rock - and as a result we were properly humbled. Cody injured his leg, Scott lost his paddle, and I sprained my hand while swimming through the carnage of Double Drop (IV). Fortunately for us there were no major injuries and we all lived to tel...

Packrafting with Scott near Camp Verde. At this level, this stretch of river was far cleaner than expected and we were pleasantly surprised by the wilderness feel despite the river's proximity to residential areas. Music: Of The by Stream Music

Bruh at 1:28 that rock was close!
pretty cool bro
I love the weather footage on your drive home. Classic Arizona 🤣
Love the video. Please, what Gloves are you using? I've been looking for fingerless gloves that work well in water for ages
@@kylebessoniSearch "Seibertron half finger padded climbing gloves" on Amazon and you should find them
Looks great👍
Love the tonto. Great video.
Super fun day! Short run but very scenic! Thx for the video
So cool bro, thank you for this .... I need to try TONTO....l usually do the the runs on the Verde river. More vids please! Thanks again.
I was so close to going to Costa Rica for canyoneering and diving, but had to cancel due to life issues. This looks absolutely incredible... gotta get it back on the calendar. Also, the video is top notch.
Just stunning😳👍
Random question Nick, but what type of cloves are you using?
@@kylebessoni do you mean gloves?
Enjoy all of your videos, Nick. The views are spectacular.
Really great video nick. I am huge Jerry and Tina fan but this video was exceptional. Thank you
Awesome👍
Dang! Nice job out there
That looks like an awesome jungle adventure👍
Hey good video I crashed into the same tree we are going the 29th get in at riverside
Crazy times. Wish we could have hit it at lower water! Great video
High action in there.... nice job
Nice job on the video! Fun times. Murder spiders 🕷
Disappointed we didn't see any murder snakes 😔
Reminds me of Taiwan, the whole moody dark green forest with black rocks. So mystical looking.
hey nick, i believe we ran into you last week at phantom ranch. we had just descended boulder and packrafted to bright angel. we talked about fishing and garden creek canyon. enjoy your videos and would love to pick your brain on some other grand canyon possibilities as well as get some cremation beta....mike
You may have ran into Eric Moorcroft. If you want to chat you can reach me on Facebook or Instagram (Nick Clegg on FB, @c.l.e.g.g on IG).
The guy on the SUP… what a badass!!! Dang!!! ❤
Looks amazing❤
amazing place
very cooool! the water is so clear :D
Awesome. I’ve done multi-day trips on the upper Salt a few times. Definitely time well spent👍
Nice! Where did you put in and take out?
Great video! I have only ever double strand rappelled in a rock climbing context. Anybody in the comments have advice on learning single strand rappels for canyoneering (i.e. natural anchors)? Rock climbers seem to prefer the double strand for ease and safety.
Double and single rope techniques (DRT and SRT) can be used with both natural and unnatural anchors and a variety of rigging configurations. There are pros and cons to each. DRT can certainly be quick and easy, but is often is not the safer option - particularly in a canyoning context. SRT enables compatibility with a variety of modern mechanical ascension devices, introduces the capabilities to set rope length and rig releasable, can increase efficiency by allowing simultaneous rappels on individual strands of the same rope, and maintains more rope at the anchor where it is usable for a variety of applications such as top-belay or rescue. If you're local to Arizona and interested in canyon-specific training, I recommend checking out AZ Rock & Canyon: www.azrockandcanyon.com/#intro
lovely video
Very nice
If we go there maybe we need to bring three saws!
These are the best kind of rafting videos to watch,... 🙂
Nice job continuing to fill in the gaps and for documenting so many verde sections on packraft. That's what the exploration is about, moving thru all variables, be it brush or rapids. The diversity of verde along its 175 to 200 miles makes it one of the most unique waterways of its length I have ever paddled personally west of the miss
Stunning shots! I’ve camped at Ferry Swale a number of times and always wondered what the upper section looked like. Thanks for the peek behind the curtain.
Great fun video, nicely made.... glad that final sequence is now bolted as lots of packrafters interested and too many anchors washing away in flash floods there, not ideal for sandtrap and not many rocks to farm there either. This upper bit of river below dam.... seems to be world class fishing up in there too. I would love to spend an overnight at one of the rivercamps coming out if I do this canyon again.
The final rappel is bolted?!? Do you have any beta on it? Final rappel length?
Awesome video!!! I live in Page and have hiked to the end of Ferry Swake a few times, overlooking the river and imagined repelling down to the river. So glad you did it! What kind of deadman anchor did you use for the rappel?
Great shot w that lion man, incredible.... still blows my mind it was on the local bit too....
Such an amazing experience!
There's a lot more water than in the summer. We do the Verde River kayaking every summer with the kids.
What road do you take to exit at Chasm Creek? Fossil Creek road down through Cottonwood Basin?
No. Chasm confluence is further down, on river right. We hiked out the canyon to forest service roads and followed them back to Beasley (about 5 miles).
I’m glad that large tree just upriver from BoxBar is gone😂👍
Cool to see you run the last channel on off the wall. Never used to be possible at low flows, something changed! I noticed it last time but didn't want to risk tearing the Refuge on a hidden branch
You mean the river left run where I fell in about 6" of water and almost broke a rib? Yeah, would not recommend😂
Woahhhh! That looked like a healthy lion… BTW, how do you know the CFS? Is there some tool you use to measure?
If you look up on Google the CFS of a river/creek and go to the United States Geological survey, they will have all of the information about water levels and CFS. Some creeks do not have water gages.
It was a good size for sure! And the USGS website has data recorded from various monitoring locations all around the country.
Wow awesome video. I have a packraft and have done the Escalante and Dirty Devil as packrafting trips. I love my boat! Keep paddling bro!
The music truly elevated the art
Epic footage! Greetings from British Columbia.
Nice edit, man. You’re just finding new ways to be crazy, aren’t you?
Nicely edited! I love that place.
Dang that looked so fun
Definitely wanna go!!!
