Hi Ali. Just saw your post and would like to answer you. Try to keep your subject as far from your background as you can. Try to keep the f-stop as close to 2.8f as possible. Stand back from your subject several feet and zoom in to the subject. Light your subject appropriately. Experiment with filming at different distances from your subject. Farther away and more zoomed in seems to produce a better result. If you need to, with the Z280 you can independently adjust the variable ND filter settings for proper exposure. You may have to increase your lighting if you use higher ND settings. Let me know if that helps, OK? Thanks, Marc

How are you liking your Z280? I also purchased a Z190 from B&H and I'm about to return it due to low light performance. Also it is not sharp at f1.4 so I try to film at f4. But at f4, there is the light issue again, not enough light coming in unless it is sunny and outdoors. Considering Z280 as one of my options. thank you.

Hi Rich. Glad you enjoyed the video. Settings were 3840x2160 59.94P XAVC-L STD 5. Focus was manual. Variable ND was off. Exposure was at times manual and at times auto. Hope that helps.

I should add that I used an auto levels filter globally on the track the clips were on in my editor which added more contrast to everything.

I wish you hadn't added the auto levels... everything looks crushed and much too punchy and it's really difficult to tell what the image quality looks like on its own.

Thx for commenting on my clip. The only change I made in post was to bring the contrast down to the zero line on the waveform monitor. I love deep contrast! I often shoot at -3 dB to cut down a bit on noise. Can you recommend any settings in the camera's 'paint' menu to help with the hot highlights? Would that be the 'knee' setting?

Marc Gold.....best place to get pointers is Alister Chapman . Google knee / Alister Chapman / picture profiles UA-cam has a video. He talks about Picture Profiles and knee adjustment for certain lighting conditions. Are you FCP or premiere pro? Lumetri does a good job in premiere cutting down highlights. Have you gone down to -6 dB? I’m close to purchase as I do Naples Ballet here in SW Florida. Thx again for your time and talent.

i've used -3db and it's a good tool if you understand what the camera is seeing and how it's reacting to the light - or in this case lack of light. so far i've only shot with -3db during a bright day - at 0db during lower light - with a properly lit scene - it performs very well and as expected. ty for sharing your clips - i've been trying to get to the second lot of sample shots... grrrr

I'm very happy with the camera. It does automatically what I found challenging doing manually particularly with the auto electronic ND and face recognition auto focus.

Well, that's going to be a personal decision everyone will have to make depending on the ROI, return on investment. If you have enough paid work to make back your 7K in a reasonable amount of time, then it's a 'yes'. It my case, it was a stretch, financially speaking. I had another important consideration though. I've always taken great satisfaction in creating the most technically perfect videos that I could and wanted the right tool to accomplish that. Confidentially, I'm also a bit self-indulgent after 40 years in video production, and sometimes I permit myself things that a more business-minded person might forego. I can truthfully say that it's a great tool. What it attempts to do, it does very well, just as advertised, IMHO.

Watch for more footage from me this evening. I'm going to shoot some 4k footage in low light environments, and I'll post the results. - Marc
