    Hi Tony, im sorry you havent been well but your garden looks beautiful. In Boston its been so hot some of my plants have stopped flowering, its been an awful gardening year. Too much much rain in spring and now too many 90+ days. Cant wait to see the lemon drop flower, they sound very pretty. Please take care of yourself.

    Gardening is hard work, this year has been exceptionally challenging with all the rain. I have flooding in my backyard, thankfully not in my home. Waiting for the soggy lawn to dry up so I can get out there and do some work myself. I like the black mulch it looks so clean and a perfect backdrop to your plants, I use black cedar..they dye it with charcoal so it isn't toxic but smells like cedar which repels the bugs. I see you have some alpine betony and mine are at same stage, just finished blooming. I cut them back and hoping for a second flush. Happy Gardening!

    What a sweet name for a plant, how is the weather in Ohio? We are under a heat warning advisory, water restrictions and it feels like 40-45 celsius here in Ontario Canada well over 110 degrees in the shade. My beautiful DA roses in full bloom are wilting. I have to water with a watering can, from collected water twice a day to keep them alive. My yarrow about to bloom is wilting and they are very heat/drought resistant. What do you think of the peat pots? I find my plants do not break through and stay stunted so I take them out of the peat pots but I do use the peat pots for starting seeds, they just don't break down. Lot's of great sales going on right now, I do the same unless it is a rose or something I really love that will pay for itself over many years. Have a wonderful week!

    • @GardenerOnAMission
      @GardenerOnAMission 29 днів тому

      The weather is hot and dry, pushing a 100 with heat index probably at 100. Everything is wilting around here too, plus with my health issues I'm not being a very good plant daddy and I may have let some of my recent purchases die, hopefully they will pull through after I give them some TLC. I was wondering about those pots so I took the rest of the plants I had in those and removed the peat pot from those as you said you do. We'll see what happens with the five lemon drops I planted in the pots vs the others that I removed the pots. You have a great week as well. Hopefully I will get to feeling better soon and can start making some videos.

    Yeah! Great to see you out there, your weeds make your video real. Nobody can keep up trust me, there are always weeds. Secret is to grow things closer together, some plants prop up others and it doesn't allow weeds to take hold. I also use cedar mulch, the fine shredded one, not the thick wood pieces type. I have changed my gardening style from perfect placed plants with no weeds to Cottage Garden wild and beautiful. I get SO many compliments and since I can't bend or kneel any longer it is a style I can manage and that my neighbours love even more than the perfectly pedicured lawn and garden I had before. But it is doing well. I will be doing a quick video the next day or two and will give a view of it. But yes they have a deep tap root and therefore do not like to be moved. However, as I say quite often plants are pretty resilient in my opinion and all they need is a little love. I was out raking my grass and it was such nice weather but more snow is coming and winter isn't over. Try to resist the urge to start "clean up" as there are beneficial insects wintering in the debris. Also those plants you let go to seed may have the seeds disturbed and not germinate. Great to see a new (lost) video. I wholeheartedly agree with fertilizing my plants. I use Bio-tone to start and then Rose-tone or Plant-tone after that. This past year my plants kept producing blooms and more blooms than ever before, I never was big on fertilizing but now I am a believer. I agree with the "finicky" nature of echinacea and some other plants. I planted my first toad lily last year and it is a purple one and so very pretty. Turtle head is one of my best and most pretty performers and looks fabulous in snow if you leave them, lots of winter interest. You do need to plant your echinacea deeper in ground so they don't flop. I got a "Grandpa Weeder" for Christmas and can't wait for spring to get out and garden. I have a knee injury so I won't be adding or replanting anything just weeding and pruning and this tool is going to allow me to keep gardening :)

      Sorry to hear about the knee injury, what happened? I too have a bad knee among other things. Thanks for the info on turtle heads. Let us know how the "Grandpa Weeder" works for you. Have a great day, it's snowing and about 25 degrees here with wind chill of 15.

      I think the owners said they are American Huskies but I'm not sure. I had asked them before but I forget. I will have to ask again but they are handsome dogs and mommy keeps them spotless. And I know I can't believe I'm still able to do garden things. Have and a great day and be on the lookout for some new things coming. Slowly but surely I'm learning.

    • @GardenerOnAMission
      @GardenerOnAMission 7 місяців тому

      Yeah bulbs are kind of no fun, mainly because you have to wait so long before seeing any results. I will say using an cordless drill and auger does make it a lot less work. All the bulbs are in the ground now and I will be making a video soon of all the different flowers and what to look for in the spring. Have a great day and be on the lookout for some new things coming soon. I'm slowly learning how to do this UA-cam stuff.

    You're so lucky you can still dig and plant. Our ground is frozen and we had light snow this morning. I did manage to get some Tulips in the ground that I got at my local garden centre for 99 cents a bag!!! I grabbed all 5 bags. Some were not viable but 90% of them were nice and healthy. I used blood meal to prevent squirrels from digging them up. They hate the smell. I sure am going to miss working in my garden now winter is here.

    I used to do all the cleanup in fall to make everything tidy looking. Now I leave the fallen leaves on the beds to protect the over wintering insects and the ground and leave many flowers for the birds but its so much more work in spring. Hostas I cut the dead leaves off right away, I find I have less snails and slugs the following year when I remove the hosta leaves.

    • @GardenerOnAMission
      @GardenerOnAMission 7 місяців тому

      Yeah I get the hostas in fall too and I do leave some things and I’m not so anal about it as I used to be. However, I do have a neighbor or two who give me a little grief about it.
