April 21, 2024 Crash and 2025 MTN.TOP 120 test
This day we had just set up our wicked 300 2-stroke with an experimental MTN.TOP 120 2.5" track, rails, 2025 coil over shocks, and skinny 9.25" wide ski. Thanks Allen for sending all of these goodies down. This bike is built, and meant to be an all out spring time ripper.
We have ridden it in the deep winter powder with the 2.5" 129, the 3.25" 126, and now the 2.5" 120.
After all of this testing I have to say that for the purpose of this bike build, the 2025 MTN.TOP 2.5" 120 is the: " hair on fire, ride it like you stole it" ticket for this bike in spring time conditions. The added nimbleness, and the design of this track work so well in the packed spring time snow. This system will bite hard and achieve high traction when loaded, but it will also brake traction and drift-spin through the tight trees helping you maneuver through the tight trees at high rates of speed.
The 9.25" ski cuts like a knife on the trail and through the trees!! It maneuvers with such precision on the firmer snow and is even lighter steering effort then the original MTN.TOP ski. The MTN.TOP kit does not ride like TS or Yeti's. You do not steer it with the handle bars. You Butt Steer it, and follow the turn with the bars, just like your dirt bike. This is what makes it so great. You can maneuver it around trees an obstacles with the front ski in the air just by shifting weight on the pegs or your position on the seat. Once you stop steering this kit and start riding it, all steering effort goes away.
It is not a deep powder climber for a 240# guy on a deep day, but it will work well for lighter weight guys for sure, on deeper days.
I feel that it is the prefect paring for the high RPM, hard hitting, pipe banging, big power 300 build.
As far as the crash goes; I ran out of talent!!!! This bike has a lot more to offer that I was ready for. When I came off of wheelie and saw I was headed for the tree, I saw an opening to the left and gassed it hard trying to cut left away from the tree and avoid hitting it. That did not work out!!! I am very thankful it was not worse. I hope to get a few more days on the snow this season. Thank you all for reaching out and making sure I was ok.
Toby

Was the TSS accidentally installed the wrong way? Seems easier to have access to the clicker from the back of the vehicle. Can you snake your hand in there and even get to it from the front? Also the battery jump dongle is nice to have access without removing the airbox cover. Cold mornings the plastic is brittle and can/will break when you try to remove the airbox cover.

The TSS is installed this way on purpose. It is easier to get the no-loss air adapter and pump on with it with it facing the back. Yes you can easily get your hand into the clicker in the front. The battery jumper can be accessed without removing the airbox cover.

2020 KTM 450 XCF 2023 KTM 450 SXF Both with AER forks, never once had issues on these newer bikes. 195 psi seems high? On my new 23 the valving changed to a lower max setting. I want to say 174 psi max. On my 2020 it was 212 psi max.

Thanks for putting this video together, I have been looking forward to this comparison. I live in central-ish Washington and we have a lot of very steep terrain. Flotation is a key factor here. I currently have a ‘19 Yeti FR which I’m looking to upgrade. My buddy has a 137 and he can definitely drive up the mountain much further than my 129. One item I am looking for that I didn’t hear in your video is overall climbing ability of the Yeti 137 vs riot/aro 3 kits. Do the 3” paddles make up for less of a footprint on the ground cause they can move more snow? If you could choose for overall climbing ability, not playfulness, which would you recommend? Thanks

I have the rekluse torque drive manual clutch pack and spring kit I highly recommend it definitely bites way harder than a stock clutch pack and the 12 disk rekluse clutch vs the 9 disc stock pack allows for lighter clutch springs so the lever pull is effortless

I second this. I came here hoping the video would actually discuss the spring setup for a snowbike. I'm about to install a RadiusCX into my 16 YZ450FX and break it in with my dirt tire. But, then throwing the Timbersled 137 on. Not sure if I should set the engagement rpm higher for having a track. There doesn't seem to be any information online about it. Guess I may just have to email Rekluse.
