Should have had a public meeting when the government sacked the council and installed the commissioners . They removed the franchise the rate payers should have refused their rates until the franchise and an elected council was installed.Bit late now the hijacking by an “entitled? elite” is more or less complete and given past performance Tauranga citizenry haven’t the character to insist on the restoration of the convention of investors having the franchise in exchange for the rates/investment like shareholders which the populace needs to elevate their consciousness about. I see some significant degree of failure in the tarting up of downtown as the public have not responded by flocking to the businesses based there. More wasted rates in whose interests?

Start thinking about solutions for every demographic. Tauranga argued over where to put the first school and for years we have had wrangling in Council over Rates ,the Harbour Bridge , having a University here, an Art Gallery, a Museum ,anything to progress Tauranga as a city resulted in years of disconnection for citizens arguing and councillors underfunding any infrastructure.Families , older /disabled people on limited incomes live in every major expensive city in the world however councils adapt by providing suitable affordable accomodation, bike lanes, free travel on connecting trains /buses etc for them. Bring on a fresh approach and thank goodness things have finally started progressing here at Papamoa the biggest suburb with most ratepayers under serviced for years.Thanks to commissioners we have a new Beach walkway 35 years overdue as is the the Olympic 50 metre pool previous councils refused to support is now planned for Papamoa.

Looking at the whole picture, we as a country are in trouble. More and more talk is taking place at the grass roots level about the unhappiness of rates etc. Seems like councils have been and still are living beyond their means. People will revolt at this rate, not if but when. history repeats ,those who don't learn from it will repeat it's mistakes.

It's absolutely amazing how crooked things are in NZ, but especially up in Tauranga. It's not even close to being good enough, that these people are kicked out of their positions. They must serve jail time. We are talking about wholesale theft and actually modern day slavery via debt. If you follow all of this to a logical conclusion, it becomes a feudal system. Lords and Serfs. It gets described as a "Cost of Living Crisis", but in reality it's a heist.

Can you tell us some of the things that you have learnt Kelvin Clout during your time at council. Was following up on the issues you saw at Orion Dr one of the "learnings" ? If so, despite saying you had concerns in a number of areas about councils functions, what has changed ? What was learnt ? What still needs addressing in your mind ? Where is the follow through with the issues you saw council involved in at Orion Drive ? All I see is silence....
