    Inside Narragansett bay, do you target the tide change, or is it really just as simple as dawn/dusk?

      The majority of my trips are at night or early morning. I usually fish between 2-3 hours on an incoming or outgoing tide. I don't do well on slack tide unless I fish in the morning with top water. There are many factors, but the most important I look out for is planning trips around the full or new moon, and using lures that best mimic the bait the fish are feeding on. Lastly, there are great weekly reports both articles/videos on crucial fishing intel from: www.thefisherman.com

    I've fished the Cape Cod Canal several times. I would recommend bringing a hiking pole when climbing those rocks. They are slippery, steep, and some covered with barnacles. They are treacherous. Be uber careful on those rocks!

    Got a 49 inch, fifty plus at the run on Thursday, May16. 2024. Epic battle, never gained an inch of line, had to steer her into shore a couple hundred ft downtide, and scramble over the rocks to land her. Barbless hook popped right out and she swam away strong. She was stuffed with mackerel. So lucky it was raining and no one was in the way.

    on the Connecticut River I used 65lb power pro with 50lb fluorocarbon leader. 4 1/2(+/-) Keith's famous homemade pencil poppers. Smallest striper I got on those was 38"! using the soft body swimmer type (albino shad) with the lead jighead I got a lot of schoolies too. I only got a few in the 40" range. Sadly the blueback herring population all but disappeared going into Holyoke. I say the Connecticut River went hard of herring. The Stripers just wiped them out About 15 years or so they said more than a million stripers entered the river. I saw a monster striper chase a 15" walleye into the brush right where we were standing. Somebody actually caught the walleye on a shad dart!

      @johnfinn3787 Рік тому

      @@bigblitzsmedia3114it’s to bad you can’t take a little advice without firing back a stupid comment. The fish biting harder has nothing to do with your ability to set a hook properly, all you need from the bass is the hit. And the drag is slipping because it’s to loose, if your drag slips during a hook set it should be tightened. And if you know you have dull old hooks, change them. Two of the three excuses for not setting hook are under your control. Maybe next time be appreciative someone watched your video and thought to try to give some helpful advice.

    • @bigblitzsmedia3114
      @bigblitzsmedia3114 Рік тому

      @@johnfinn3787There’s a difference between friendly advice and keyboard warriors finding something to nitpick about. “Learn”, like I don’t know how to set a hook. Sure there is always room for improvement and I’m not doubting it. To say that I’m not appreciative of those who view my video would be far from the truth, I take time and try to respond to every comment even if it rubs me the wrong way. Commenting on any platform with no human emotion and face to face interaction can come across the wrong way and seem more malicious than intended. My comment was not intended to be an excuse rather a absurd comedic and sarcastic reply. The magic swimmer is a plug I rarely use and that’s why I thought not to change the hooks. My drag not being properly set is false as you can see with the other three fish, I didn’t touch it. I stand by what I said and if you don’t agree feel free to dislike the video and don’t watch my content.

      @sam__304 Рік тому

      @bigblitzsmedia3114 Your drag is set just about perfect. Can't people see the pressure you are putting on those fish, with only a little drag slipping. If drag is adjusted correctly, you should not have to change it while fighting a fish. Great video, looking forward to seeing more. Subscribed

    @tedjerdee1028 Рік тому

    I've never been a fan of the single hooked magic swimmers. If I'm there to catch fish, I'm not decreasing the amount of things that keep them on the line. I can't tell you how many times I've gone through the effort to "canal rig" them and then have 5x the amount of fish pop off. In my experience, the way you rig it doesn't affect it's effectiveness.

    • @bigblitzsmedia3114
      @bigblitzsmedia3114 Рік тому

      Likewise, the "canal rig" has too many moving parts for a fish to securely get a good hook set. I find that I drop more fish with a single hook on the front. Others would argue that they strike at the head and don't make a difference. At the end of the day, fishing is confidence, and having that second hook and not dropping a fish helps me sleep at night 😂. However, if there are plenty of fish around I don't mind putting on a single hook and dropping fish.
