The Driving Question Behind "By Water Beneath The Walls"
The story of Owen West, the son of Francis West, who posed the question Ben Milligan read which ultimately gave him the question for his book "By Water Beneath The Walls".
Benjamin H. Milligan became a US Navy SEAL in 2001 and served until 2009. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star and other awards. A native of Indianapolis, he received a BA in History at Purdue University and an MA in International Relations at the University of San Diego. Since the publication of By Water Beneath The Walls, he has balanced his writing with speaking and lecturing on leadership, organizational change, and American history at various universities, military commands, and veteran’s events. When not traveling for research or leading a tour of an overseas battlefield, he lives in the Chicago area with his three sons.

Birdman, I need to see some skate footage. I skated for 10+ years growing up, and stopped before going in to try to go to bud/s, but ended up getting an unexpected discharge out of bootcamp.

Would love to see some skate footage, Ryan. I grew up skating for 10+ in the Austin suburbs. Joined navy in 2013-14 to try to go to bud/s. Got unexpectedly discharged out of bootcamp for “fraudulent entry” as a direct result of listening to me recruiter when he told me “just say no about that part” on one box on my medical questionnaire while I was sitting across from him at his desk.

That's a mistranslation that really meant "Thou shall not murder" because look at people like King David who commanded armies and ruled over nations. If Christians truly weren't allowed to kill in self defense, we'd all be slaughtered and forced to follow other beliefs and religions or we'd be executed. God bless ♥ Jesus loves you

I never got to meet him or his brother. Väinö Mäkinen was my grandmothers dad's dad, he was married to Helka during the war, they got a child but he never met him. He died fighting against Germany in Lapland war. Väinö Mäkinen 19.11.1921-3.10.1944, died in battle, blessed and buried✝️ he proudly fought for Finland from 1941 to 1944, his child was born in 1945. He fought for our freedom, was just 23 and left his wife and child behind. He keot our blood going so, my family, wedding picture and memory remains..🇫🇮 Pentti Mäkinen was my grandmothers dad's dad's brother. He served from 1941 or 1942 to 1943 when he died in Maaselkä, fighting against Soviet Union. I found one intereiew of veteran, or acctually my friend sent it to me. That veteran was asked "are there any difficuld memories from the war, he told he misses the guys from my city(also Pentti lived here). He fought in Maaselkä, maybe with my relative... Penttti Mäkinen 16.5.1924-9.11.1943, died in battle, blessed and buried✝️ he proudly fought against must larger enemy, he was only 19 years old. Only memory remains..🇫🇮 I think every veteran should be remembered. Nowadays many people dont care. I'm just 15 and life in free country. Thank you heroes.
