Previously unheard Ra culled from the archives and compiled based on their association to that children's film corporation with the cartoon rodent. Pressed on earth on pink vinyl!
Jazz aficionados and Disney nerds alike will marvel at how seamlessly Sun Ra and his Arkestra put their own unique twist on both well-known and overlooked Disney songs. Pink Elephants on Parade takes nine songs from Disney’s storied catalog and recontextualizes them as beautiful, fun, and sometimes terrifying pieces of Afrofuturist jazz. The collection also shows further proof of how Ra was always willing to transcend conventions of jazz. Listen to the full album and you will likely never look at the Disney music catalog the same way ever again.
Originally known for accompanying Dumbo and Timothy’s colorful alcohol-induced hallucinations, this song is given a whole new life by Ra and the Arkestra in more ways than one. It also feels faithful to the original at the same time, with the cacophony of horns, drums, percussion, and cowbell resembling that of a marching band. However, the demented grandeur of the song is turned up to eleven with zany vocal lines (hence the high-pitched “What’ll I do” inflections) and other performances that somehow sound more evil and gruff here than they did on Oliver Wallace and Ned Washington’s version. Though the Sportsmen’s vocals from that particular arrangement had a certain creepiness to it, the Arkestra takes a previously innocent sounding song and makes Pink Elephants On Parade sound even more terrifying.

This has got such a strong Van Der Graaf Generator/Peter Hamill influence all over it musically!
Interesting part of this is that the original album I bought around 1960 did not identify any of the players - that all came years later - also loved his "Guitars by George " album from 1955 -

SUGGEST DO A SIMILAR on his GUITARS GALORE album on Merc, aroun 61. Has a most zuccintly gorgeous gatefold sleeve, the session itself full of snappy studio overdub trickery amidst some real flashy cowjazz guitaristics. Simply a joy-filled release concept to have, and quite a 4gotten 1 despite the fascinating concept ! I own multiple mono copies.

WoW, sounds very interesting! The demo is far too short! I can not understand why on Vinyl is not all to hear and I have to order the CD. This makes no sense to me.
It is what it is. I love me some Sun Ra so I'm double dipping on this release. Already pre-ordered the vinyl and will scoop up the CD at a later date.
It was a teaser we made for social media with a 1 minute max. We're working on a longer one it's just tough as the video we got it pretty rough. Feels like the guy who shot the stuff all but but put it on a rope and swung it around. Although, that would probably be usable... not the greatest example.

@@modernharmonic5177 Thanks for the feedback! Thank you that someone finally cares about Sun Ra's musical legacy and we can hear the historical recordings. I think it's better to have a bad example than none at all! But the snippet tells me that the recording will be a masterpiece. I associate passages that I know from the concert for the comet Kohoutek. Similar vibrations for me. This mill looks like a spaceship and if it sounds like that then I have to hear it! Will order!
I'm not a fan of vinyl so appreciate the cd option. It's a niche artist on a niche format, so super stoked!

I find Scott's jingle for Sprite more tartly sparkling that the actual beverage. Is it possible 1960s Sprite had less sugar? Maybe more sodium citrate? (Its still alkaline enough to soothe an acid stomach, thankfully.)

Wow, I just chanced on this. I absolutely LOVE George Barnes' playing. I'll relate a story. A couple of years ago I attended the Alternative Guitar Summit, which featured as clinicians Gilad Heckselman, Julian Lage, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Sheryl Bailey, Tim Miller, & John Scofield. Julian Lage was speaking and talking about the early days of electrice guitar and how they had pickup technology _down_ from very early in the game, and then some of that knowledge was lost about how they'd made them. From the way he was talking about the early players I thought he might have been referencing George Barnes indirectly, so I raised my hand and asked if he was a Barnes fan. He immediately lit up and said George was _exactly_ who he was talking about and gushed about what a great player he was and how much he'd been influenced by him. Not that any of us Barnes fans need any more encouragement to love his playing, but I thought it was really cool that another brilliant player this is Julian Lage would also share that love.
