The amount of people complaining about jakob performence is crazy. The guy had a full season training for 1500m, his winter season which is highest mileage was cut short due to injury so less prepared endurance wise for this season which isn't a big deal in the 1500m but in a half who would guess. After he wins dimaond league 1500m final, with a 3 30 he decides, for fun and basically in his vacation already, to run a half to challenge himself obviously. He runs a 1:03 which basically almost no one can do, after the first 10k at 27:27 which if you do the math is sub 58, to then walk and run and still finish a race with the great end time. People are blindly hating on him for trying to have fun and run when he wants expecting him to perform as they could never do. He since the beginning said he wouldn't be running fast times, he knew he couldn't, even basically said for people to lose their expectations in breaking world record and that they should give the deserved respect to the people that do it for a living. If you are one of those trolls here, probably try running at that pace for even 5m before you comment on professional athletes doing what they want to do being respectful and fun about it as Jakob was.

@@APKZ04 I agree 100 percent with you , he wasn't even sure he wanted to run a couple of days ago , you could tell he knew he wasn't ready to run as fast as he wants to in the half marathon . He know a WR was out of sight and was hoping to last with the leaders as long as he could .... the 27:27 he ran for the first 10k was his new pr for him . I actually think this will serve Jakob very well for future half marathons. He got to inhabit the feeling next to guys like Sawe and Kiplimo. But the stakes were low since he literally raced a couple days ago. And we (the audience) got to have that brief rush of, like, thrilling uncertainty. “…Wait, could something historic happen right now?” For UFC fans, it’s like when an elite fighter steps in on short notice after another fighter drops out.

Imma SS this and dave it so I can come back in 6 years. Let me add my own wavers here 👀 I think there's a 95% chance of him beating the Steeplechase WR, 90% of beating the 5k time, 80% on 10k, 50% on the mile, 30% on the Half Marathon and 20% on the Marathon. What I think gonna happen is... he gonna beat the 1.5k in a diamond League next year, then move on to 5k and 10K. He will get 5k WR in 1 year, 10k in 2 to 3 years. 3k Steeplechase WR will come anytime he wants to do it (assuming his coach lets him do it, I think they will, but who knows?) The half Marathon attempts will probably be in 3 to 10 years, depending on the circumstances. As for Marathon 💀have no idea

how would he have placed if he'd paced himself for a 60 minute race?

Considering he beat the Norwegian record for 10K in his his first 10k of the race, and that there was 2 times he walked a bit, he probably could have taken like 3 or 4 minutes off with the right pace. Though... also Considering he: - is at the end of the season after a LOT of races ALL weeks - just won the 1.5k DL final a few days ago - was sick 10 days ago - has been training for much shorter his entire life (and his in training he only runs at most 20k on the weekend in 1 go) Assuming he probably can take a lot more down with just 3 months of prep. (Though he probably will still focus on 1.5k next year, maybe Steeplechase WR since it's easier for him)

If he had paced slower he could maybe have run 60-61 minutes. But he got the national record for the 10 K. 😃🏆

I wouldent be mad with a 1:02 half marathon at all if it was my first, especially after a long season of constant racing and world records. (He had a 1500 2 days before) This just goes to show that he's got a lot of potential and if he really trained for the half he could even go after the WR in that too

@@mikestanley4501 Agreed, no guarantee his body would hold up for the mileage needed for half and full marathons. His half is slower than runners like Keptum, Gebreselassie, Kipochoge and so on ran in full marathons, puts it into perspective as to the punishing pace these guys run at.

@@mikestanley4501 he's closer than you'd think like I said if he was fresh with training specifically for that distance, he would be running way under sub 60 for sure. Jakob had a long season if you just looked at his profile, he's been racing a LOT, he was totally unprepared for this race and he STILL ran a 1:02 half after a 1500 2 days prior. Keep in mind he ran a 1:02 after blowing himself out at WR pace for half the race too

@@OfficalNovaRBLX its not that simple, they were never even approaching running at wr pace and he was still absolutely gassed by the 10km mark. There is a world of a difference between a 63min half and a 57 min half, nothing about his performance today even suggests he has the potential to challenge it in the future
