Is THIS The BEST Jazz Bass Fender Ever Made?
I purchased the same bass from sweetwater (about $570 including tax and 2 day shipping) and have not experienced any issues with the preamp. The neck pickup is noticeably weaker than the bridge but that doesn't break it for me. This bass slaps way about the price point.
Wow. Didn't realize so many people had this issue. I had one with the vintage sunburst and had the same exact issue with the neck pickup and the preamp. I eventually sent it back. Hopefully, the z3 will be better
I wonder if that’s common on all models. I just did a parts build with a Tone monster preamp. Blend, volume push pull, passive tone and TB stack, mid and a mid switch. Took me like 8 tries to get it in and working correctly
Single coil pickups are almost always weaker than humbucking pickups. Personally, I would expect a drop off in volume when switching from a humbucker to a single coil pickup.
Just because tou write a paper about it doent make you the authority on it. 😂 ..... Thank you Bully about that. White people just added to the flavor and vise versa
I’m not sure if I missed it if you mentioned it but did you put in fresh batteries?
@@Sumbibebe Yup. Fresh batteries from Duracell and still nothing!
Thanks! I want one so badly but only because I want it not need it. I have a Ray25 I love but wanted to upgrade or cross grade to this bass. I also have a MM Special 5HH that I’m afraid to touch or play away from home because of its price. I’m going to rewatch your great video to see what els I missed and also subscribe👍🏾
So i ordered my z7 from Andertons and it actually came playable and ready to roll. No issues i can tell.
24:46 is exactly why anyone in the market for a Sire bass has to understand what Sire has always been about. These are high quality budget basses. Don't like the knobs, change them. Don't like the preamp, change that. What is not fair/justified is comparing the nuances of quality from an American made bass and expect to spend Sire money. Sire provides an amazing bass that can be made into a custom bass that can rival much more expensive basses with some mods!
@@fr3d490 NGL after this livestream, I plan to keep it and modify for personal taste. Thank you for your knowledgeable comments!
I am grateful for the information. I do however have caution with labeling [all] Z7's exhibiting this issue. Brand new bass, solution is simple: return/exchange it. As for the solution to go with the Z3, well that is a different animal altogether, same goes for the Ray34. A person looking at the Z7 is not the same buyer for a more classic MM style bass. A more comparable bass to the Z7 would be a Lakland 55 series. Let's definitely keep a cool booty and see what type of support Sire is offering for any user with an issue. I am an absolute fan of Sire. I have a V9 that is absolutely fantastic and plan to get a Z7. I have an American MM5, Z7 is a different animal that I am looking forward to adding to my collection.
@@fr3d490 Absolutely agree! Don’t let my experience be the poster child to all Z7s!
So my z7 has been good. But I haven't really messed with it much.
100% NO. Not even close to a Music Man killer.
Just send it back !
@@KelvinOneal-r1t After all this ordeal, I’ll just keep it and modify to taste
I didn't notice anything weird about mine. But I'll check a little more into to it
I don't think Sweetwater would do that
@@dynodansmoking Hopefully not, but after this livestream I’m deciding to hold onto it and modify to taste.
I had the five string version of your bass on trial last week. Amazing bass for the money, Sire are knocking it out of the park right now. A couple of issues for me were, my bass was meant to be the same colour as yours, but was much more of a green. Also, the stacked knobs were binding and rubbing together, which meant when I turned the top knob the bottom one would spin also, and that happened on both stacks. As for the pickup volume, the 5-string has exactly the same issue; the volume level from the neck pickup is markedly lower than the bridge pickup. It made me feel as though the neck pickup was only added to be some sort of tone buffer to the bridge pickup, to smooth out the normal Stingray punch and knock it back more to being like a Precision. I certainly didn't think the neck pickup would be usable by itself, the volume drop was just far too much. And as you say, raising it too high puts more of a magnetic pull on the strings and you get the warbling tone. But the bass itself was incredible, and if I could get along with that string spacing, I would have kept it and rectified the issues.
This is why I shied away from the z7 and went to the z3. I know this isn’t a common problem, but these preamps are overly complicated for what they provide. I had a v7 and hated the preamp control cavity situation. My p5 is nice and simple and my favorite bass. My z3 is getting delivered today and it has a more traditional 3 band “heritage” preamp without the stacked knobs. That’s fine by me.
Got my Sire Z7-5 str Swamp Ash It was in perfect condition and I tell you : That’s the best bass in the world for the money !!!❤️👍👏
Sad that the Z7 got such issues. I was so tempted to get one. Looks like somebody is slipping on QC. Warbling sound is also a result of pickup being too close to the string. That is common. G&L Tribute series is manufactured in Indonesia. It’s so well built. Quality material & parts, wonderful fit and amazing finish. Best of all, it sounds super close to the US manufactured ones. Bear in mind, G&L ain’t doing the volume that Sire is doing. Nothing close I’m sure. Yes, the G&L Tribute L2000 costs a bit more (just a mere $100 more) than Sire Z7 bass but … You pay cheap, you get cheap.
They use the same electronics in the US and the tribute, that's why they are so close
@@xenogear88 … yeah, it’s a good move by G&L along with using the same pickups. It really allows an affordable series to sound very much like the ‘better’ series.
@@hushpuppykl and it proves that we could have high quality instruments for a fraction of the price if the brands were not ripping us off
@@xenogear88 … you got that right!!! Hehehe … But to be fair, labour cost is a lot cheaper in Indonesia (with an OEM manufacturer, you leverage on the economic of scale too), the wood used is not as luxurious as those used in the US basses, no quarter sawn neck …
@@hushpuppykl But we could have high end USA pickups on let's say a Fender Player II, nothings stop them from doing that. I'm still pissed out about the poor choice of colours in the Player II basses
What's with the wig?
@@PixieintheMainframe Good question 🤔
That’s one of the reasons why I went for the Z3. I much prefer the simpler preamp design. I wish my V7 had it as well. Stacked pots are simply annoying IMO. 🙄
There is such thing as good stacked pots. From Sire? Not so much 😪
I have the exact same bsss as this, and it also had a wiring problem. Sweetwater said they were going to fix it and gave me the option to send it in right away or wait to do the swap in October. Sweetwater has been great, and they even were the ones to reach out to me to see how it was going. If you have bought one, get it checked out.
I'm with you. Really Sire?
Well, they're facing the same difficulties as the rest of the world: everything gets expensive and they can't keep up. They should have increased the prices and kept the good quality.
I really want one and will get one eventually, but these are the reasons you pay more for an American made Stingray, the quality is Top notch
I bought an American Fender Precision and it was so bad I had to instantly return it. Bought an EBB Stingray instead and it's perfect.
The Sire has a more comfortable neck in my opinion and the electronics can be replaced to be on par/superior to a USA Stingray for well under half the cost.
@@jonsidell3338 I don’t know about a more comfortable neck, I’d say the stingray is top notch especially the roasted necks I’ve never tried a sire so I don’t know, I do love the full options on the Z7 for the preamp it has literally everything on it
@@norbertwork6659 their top of the line, all of my stingrays are my babies
@@jonsidell3338 I'm sure the neck on the Sire Z7 is great but EB gunstock oil and waxed necks are legendary.
I haven’t had any issues with my bass sorry you did but that’s not all of them they’re great basses ✅
Bauhaus shirt? nice
@@SisterRose 🦇🖤
Could you help me out brothers, my sterling stingray feels amazing but it’s like once I boost the bass just a hair over it like pops or distorts, is it the pickup or the maybe the preamp?
I just tried three of these in a row and they all had faulty stacked pots. I got a refund and moved on.
That'll just give me an excuse to mod it. Shame that Sire failed with QC, because I really like that bass.
I bought a Sire P8 last year and loved it at first, until the input jack died completely on stage in the middle of a gig. (There's a design flaw and the terminal pin can easily bend out of place so it doesn't make contact with the plug.)
I have a left handed player series p bass for over 3 years as ny go to. The reason why its my number 1 is because it has not caused me any problems in all that time. I do look after my instrument like its my baby and keep it clean etc. Which probably helps alot though lol.
Lol I almost got one
Complite review?
Opened the control cavity of my Z3 to adjust the trim and found some damage in there where one of the screws had no wood to screw into, getting it swapped. The major annoyance is that it's obvious it was noticed as a botched fix had been attempted!
Picked up a Player II Jazz bass and it’s really good actually. Seems like Fender and Sire have things reversed. Fender will send out a good batch for the initial release and then th quality will go to shit. Sire will rush to meet demand and cut corners, then fix the issues. Makes me want to just spend $2k on a good “boutique budget” bass and not deal with the headaches.
The z3 is better. I also advise shielding the cavity
Hey, all I’m saying is I have 3 Reverends and none of them have had any QC issues at all!!
I purchased 2 Sandberg basses a year apart and had to solder a ground wire on each of them. The wires busted loose in transit.
Well that's a bummer. I never really liked the way stingrays look, anyway 😊
Another reason to buy a ray34 😮😮😮😮
Just get a Z3 if you can. It’s basically a better Ray34 that has a passive option.
Dang Sono. Sorry you're having some frustrations with new gear too. My heart goes out to the newbie players. Not everyone knows how to solder and deal with the array of issues happening from shitty QC. Hope you got it all figured out.
Original issues prior was the low output of the neck pickup. Got that figured out, now this!! I'm done lmao
@sonojon0 sorry bud! Not sure how Siren's customer service is. Maybe you'll get as lucky as I did with Sterling
Those cavities are jam packed! I feel your disgust!! Seems to me like the Z3 is the best bet/best "Ray" sound
That's why I never rush out to get these new hyped up models. Sire and other companies cut corners in QC to meet demand. I'd rather wait until the initial excitement dies down. What's the point of getting a bass that's so hard to find that you can't get another one if you get a dud? I'm sure this Z series is awesome and worth the money, but I'm also sure it will be even more awesome in another 6-8 months when they get this sorted.
Agreed 💯%
