Walk in the woods
Переглядів 91Рік тому
Just a walk in the woods in the rain. Enjoying the sounds and taking time to brew a coffee. I have been inspired by the videos of @chrishomer his series, “coffee in the woods”. I love that he uses no music or speech, just the sounds of nature. Check out his fantastic work. This video also gave me the opportunity to try out my new Sony A7C. I knew my GoPro would never handle the low light so I o...

Getting to try out my new Wild Country Helm Compact 2 tent that replaces the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 that failed on me. This is a short over night wild camp in the Mourne Mountains with my son, my brother and his two sons. Recorded using GoPro Hero 9 and Sony A6400.

Sharing my views from my experience of a Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 tent when it failed for me and my son during our first time trying it out in the mountains, and whether I would recommend someone buying one. I also talk about what I have replaced it and my initial views on the replacement, particularly in light of the Cloud Peak 2. www.terra-nova.co.uk/products/helm-compact-2/

Stealth wild camping with my son. Camping out only minutes from my house

Trying to get out more with my son. With the plan to do some wild camping in the Mournes we decided to head to a local spot just to acclimatise him to camping. We also wanted to try out cooking pizza thanks to seeing the idea @GoingSoloOutdoors recently shared. Head over to his page for some brilliant content. Tent used was the sadly now discontinued GoLite Shanghai-la 3.

Hi Simon, just came across this channel and really enjoyed this video! Tent looks great, we use the OEX Jacket III which I can't recommend enough. New sub from us!
@@Roam.Outdoors thanks. Must get more videos out! Will head over to your channel now.
@ definitely mate it looked like a great camp! Looking forward to seeing more. Ah thank you mate really appreciate that!
Great report Simon, really enjoyed your detailed video and all of the ups and downs of the KWU. Lovely footage and nice moments along the route. Great channel👍
Thank you!
Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Adam
Hi Simon, good to see yous back out again. That was a nice hike to get you back in the swing of things. Great photos in there and some good memories made with the family 👍.
Thanks Geoff. Hard to beat a relaxing walk in the hills. Was the same day you were up Commedagh in the snow
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors I was trying to think if it was the same day. It was nice to have some snow under the feet.
Great video. Amazing going. 👍
Thank you! You should give it a go. Amazing route
Brilliant. Thanks for the tag mate. We could start a trend
Absolutely.
Great video!, I’m getting the Helm compact 2 in the next few days, seen so many great reviews about it, can’t wait to get out in it soon, subbed, p.s did you use a footprint with it, I will be wild camping on soft grass so don’t think I will get one
@stevenvitali7404 thanks for the comment. It’s a great wee tent. Hope you enjoy it. Didn’t get a footprint yet but probably.
Sounds great. Are you using an external mic?
Yes I am. Makes such a difference
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors sounds it!
Is staying out of the rain an option? 😂
What would be the fun in that?
Fabulous scenery.
Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks
Brilliant
Thanks. Was lovely and so clear
Thank you Adam!
video quality is superb
Enjoyed that , new sub here 👍🏻🏕
Thank you!
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors alwaya happy to support a fellow outsoor youtuber 👍🏻🏕
@@OUTDOORALLY appreciate it. It’s a long game!
Thanks Geoff. Been a fan of Terra Nova and Wild Country for years so was an easy choice. Very much pleased with the Helm.
Hi Simon, great to see the tent issue sorted, yous look pretty happy in the helm 2. Good to see everyone getting involved in pitching up. 👍
Good review, thanks.
Thanks @adam8642
Hi Simon. The naturehike cloud peak was top of my list for a new tent but now a seed of doubt has been planted. I might have to rethink it. I’ve never been up Commedagh that way, looks class going by the drone shots. I look forward to seeing what tent you’ve switched to 👍.
Don't want to put people off, just educate. I saw a comment on Amazon where someone else's pole snapped. My next video will cover more of my view on buying one and what i've replaced it with.
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors Excellent Simon. I watch a lot of the videos on the cloud peak and read the reviews on it, that’s a couple of times I’ve seen something go wrong with it. Last thing you need up a mountain is a tent failure.
@@GeoffGreenawayOutdoors absolutely, just glad I was able to do a temporary mend and not ruin my son’s first mountain camp
Nice drone shots mate. Shame about the tent but looked a great camp tho
Thanks James. Need to play with settings on drone. Was a shame about the tent but I’ve already got a replacement! Video of that to come soon but should be testing it next weekend
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors brilliant mate. Look forward to checking that out
Great video Simon! It certainly looks like a beautiful course. Congratulations on finishing. Have thought about doing it but after watching this I think it beyond me! lol
Thanks for the comment. Please don’t let my video put you off. Think about doing the Nite or Lite version at least to get a good taste of the course
Great going!
Thank you!
Great video, seems like good father son time!
Thanks! Hopefully first of many. Will have our first mountain wild camp video coming soon!
Fantastic Simon. I really enjoyed that video. I’ve often wondered how people do these ultra marathons. You’ve obviously a very strong mind. I loved it 👍
Thanks Geoff! Tried to get across what it was like. At least one person has “got it” ok
That's perfect
Yes that was a cracking wee spot. Had some porridge and an aeropress coffee
Well done dude
Thanks!
that would be a peaceful run for sure
It really was!
😋
There is no way my dog would stay sitting so well in a bike trailer 😂
Lol. Molly is a trained therapy dog so she’s sort of special!
💪
😮👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😮
After one year how is it holding up? Would you still recommend?
The Qark? Sadly not. Started having the same issues with the power dropping off quite quickly. Alpkit refunded it after they looked at it and agreed with me. Bought a Petzl Swift RL900. It’s fantastic!
AMAZING
Thanks!
Brilliant mate
Thanks James. Best fun I’ve had up there I think
@Simon Hodge I'm heading up the mournes for a camp this weekend hopefully be more snow
@@jamesoutandaboutn.i227 from what I’ve heard there is loads up there. Temp is meant to change by the weekend but I’d say it won’t vanish too quickly there. Have fun!
@Simon Hodge happy days. Cheers matey
You're a nerd! But we should all be very grateful to nerds like you who enable us to make good buying decisions - and also hopefully help good manufacturers to win out over lesser ones. Thank you very much for this video. 👏
Lol. Tbh I just returned the unit as it developed a problem like the first one I had. Power drops off very soon after being turned on. Got a refund. It’s a shame as I love Alpkit gear
Thanks, great info.
See you there?
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors yep 👍
Just came across this video, searching Mourne Way running. Are you still doing the ultra this weekend? I'm doing the 84K though my mileage has been a bit low this last few weeks due to an injury.
Hi Tim. Yes doing the 84km myself. Looking forward to it.
Brilliant
Thanks! My first effort at something like that
Nice video mate. What camera are you using . Looks really smooth for running
Thanks James! It’s the GoPro Hero9. I was out running with a friend who was recording with a Hero8. Is was so impressed with it I looked into getting one just as the Hero9 came out so made sense. My previous running video ( ua-cam.com/video/genu-VEbDi8/v-deo.html ) was recorded using a Huawei P20 pro mounted on a DJI mobile 2 gimbal but the GoPro is so much more practical.
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors yea looks really good. I'm using the gopro7. It's not to bad but the 9 definitely looks smoother for things like the mournes. Thanks for sharing mate
Definitely the Hero9 is impressive and good battery life too
@@Simon_J_Hodge_Outdoors yea the 7 can go through alot of batterys especially on winter camp
Nice little video Simon 👍🏃
Thanks 👍
Trail running! Got some nice shots there!
Thanks Stephen. Lots of learning to do!
