    Dude, this is absolutely next level! How long did it take you to sculpt this? Masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥 And to be honest, I would be interested to know how long the render took, haha

    • @EyesofLamia
      @EyesofLamia 3 дні тому

      Thanks a lot dude! I don't know exact times things took - because I was working on it in the evenings, weekends, between jobs and everything else. First Zbrush file is from mid October 2023, last one from mid March 2024. So was on/off sculpting during those 5 months. Then materials, lighting, rendering and putting together the audio was another 5 months haha. Rendering was a lengthy one for sure. It was 4K animation, think it was about 5-8 minutes per frame on average. And there were about 1.5 - 2k frames before I cut things. Also had to re-render multiple shots too due to some issues and errors. Loong time. Next one I will probably try rendering in Unreal to speed things up. Although depends if I can get a good marble material there. I rarely pop on instagram these days, but whenever I do, I see you're making some insanely cool stuff yourself in 3D these days. Very impressive, it's very cool that you kept pushing forward with it! You're an awesome artist!

      @@EyesofLamia Yes, you can definitely see that you have invested a lot of time. That is dedication! Definitely far from a small "evening project." I wish I had that much patience with my stuff, haha. A super interesting topic you choose also! And thank you for your words! Don’t worry about it, Instagram is still dead, unfortunately. But I’m happy that our paths still cross here and there :) I will never forget that you gave me the jumpstart back then. I’m also very glad that I stuck with it, it has opened some doors for me, even though it was really hard to stay committed at times. Let's see what the future brings. Super happy to see that you are also pretty active, even if it's not on IG.

      @@Amalgam3D Thanks again dude! I wanted to start doing longer pieces, because I couldn't keep up with pace social medias while also doing work that inspires me. I tried to keep the pace up for a bit, but looking back at work I created during that time, I wasn't happy with a lot of it. So figured I'd rather go slow and do what excites me. I'm getting too old to chase algorithms, might as well just go at my own pace and do work that I want to create. Sorry to hear Insta is still dead dude, I don't really know which social media is alive these days. I am mostly on X and here on UA-cam these days. Sometimes things feel alive, other times not so much xD Glad that 3D stuff opened some doors for you and it's genuinely very impressive how you stuck with it and kept doing it all on your own. That must have been not easy and it's a massive accomplishment how far you've travelled with your work. Very happy if my ramblings helped back in the day dude. And likewise, very happy that our paths still cross here and there :) Hope there are massive things coming for you. Your self discipline and progress definitely deserve all the recognition!

      The model is CTL-472 - the small one. For hand gestures - due to the small surface area that I use - most of my action comes from the wrist, so it's just very small movements - there's really not much to show. It's basically same movement as writing with a pen.

    That is epic! Love this direction. Will you be sticking to the greek/roman style or exploring the classical works of south asia as well? There is some comparably vivid material in india as well in my opinion, although with a bit more of a focus on ornamentation rather then anatomy.

    • @EyesofLamia
      @EyesofLamia 12 днів тому

      Thank you very much! Love this question. Honestly - I am not yet sure where this project will take me. That's the short version :) Longer version: Initially I would like to explore scenes and characters that already resonated with me in some way. My childhood was filled with predominantly Western art, Slavic folklore and fairy tales, Greek and Roman mythology and to some extent the Bible (which is not exactly a mythology, but it's filled with vivid scenes and characters that captured me as a child and are still imprinted in my mind, so may be some works inspired by those in these series). South Asia's art and culture are incredibly rich, beautiful and yet unfortunately - it's not something that I am currently very familiar with. I would like to keep myself open to cultures and mythologies that are new to me however. And if I discover something that fascinates or inspires me, I'd of course potentially be interested to explore it through my art. Whatever culture inspires me for future artworks, I hope that I would be able to reflect some of it in the style of the sculpture too, to be respectful to the culture that inspired it.

      Thank you very much for watching, glad you found it useful. • @lazyng6631
      @lazyng6631 19 днів тому

      @@EyesofLamia I also think the third method is good, but the action of "cutting" is not as convenient as carving physical clay. By the way, if you use the third method to make a stylized head, what will be the process?

    • @EyesofLamia
      @EyesofLamia 19 днів тому

      @@lazyng6631 Yeah it took me a while to get used to cutting too, ClipCurve brush is pretty handy for that. I don't do many stylized heads, but my approach would be to make a rough generic head with realistic proportions first and then tweak the volumes. That's how I approached sculpting Piccolo's head here (First 35 minutes are sculpting a generic head, then after tweaking the proportions and shapes to make the stylized verison): ua-cam.com/video/mXQwg5vnVcg/v-deo.html

    Really fascinated by the way you initially block out the head proportions with those carved lines and planes at the start! Is there a particular taught method (e.g. from an old school book) that you follow, or is it your own devised worflow? Love seeing your sculpts, it's really inspired me to do more quick and loose studies

    • @EyesofLamia

      Thank you for the kind words! This method was inspired by watching @Stecca. 's channel. I talk more about it in this video (the third approach to sculpting heads): ua-cam.com/video/V4grvLUvn58/v-deo.html& (In the description of that video is also the link to Stecca's video that inspired me to try this) As I discovered later - it's a variation on Andrew Loomis's method for drawing heads. So looking at Loomis's drawings and explanations really helps to internalise it.

    Man, I love your content. What I love about your content is how effortlesly you sculpt dynamic poses. I know anatomy somewhat myself, but I struggle to sclupt full bodies (even in default pose) in reasonable amount of times. Full body sculpt might take 2-3 days, because it's too hard to keep together all variables, and I really struggle to get over it and learn to sculpt fast. Do you think, I need to just push through it, or maybe you have some tips? upd: suddenly I relate too much about dating with an artist isn't easy.

    • @EyesofLamia
      @EyesofLamia Місяць тому

      Thanks a lot for the kind words! 2-3 days for a full body sculpt is already great. There are many variables indeed, and a polished sculpt can take a long time. One of the pieces I'm working on now - I sculped the body over several months haha. To improve the speed I think sculpting to a timer really helps. Set yourself a timer for 1 hour or 30 minutes (if you're feeling really brave xD) and see what you can sculpt within that timeframe. Even if the result is not perefect, leave it and move to the next one. Once you do these quick studies for a little while, your brain will start to adapt. The "deadline" will force it to concentrate on the important bits and stop it from getting too caught up in the details. Of course doing this regularly helps too. If full bodies are too much to do within an hour, then maybe isolating and concentrating on different body parts could help too. Good luck with it, and hope dating with an artist will all work out too :)

      @@prestonowens4594 I don't really know. It's not that there's anything specifically wrong with Bethesda's Fallouts, they are just very different. The originals left a big impression on me, because I played them first when I very young, so it would be hard for anything to live up to them :) I enjoyed the art-direction more in the original games, the dialogue trees too (especially compared to F4) and I enjoyed the turn-based combat haha. It's nice when you can go make a cup of tea mid-battle. But yeah Bethesda did a great job modernising it and keeping it alive and relevant for new generations. Then there's a cool Twitter/X account called AnatomyStandard. They have quite a few short videos on their feed that show off motions of bones/ecorche. These are probably the closest thing. I think if a person can dedicate themselves to specifically anatomy sculpts on a daily basis, they could get this progress much quicker than me. But we all have different time availability and also different pace at which we progress. I think it's best thing is to just set a comfortable pace that works for you and stick to that for a year or more :)

    Hello, I would like to ask how you made the mushroom gills. Could you tell me how it was done from the very beginning?

      Hey, I can't remember the exact workflow. I think it was just enabling the radial symmetry, then using a combination of masking and Move brush to shape them up. Nothing fancy :)

      Hey, thanks a lot! Currently I have Ryzen 5950X processor and 64GBs of RAM in my work machine. But I worked for many years before the upgrade on i7 4770 and 16/32GBs of RAM. For Zbrush alone I can't say I notice a huge difference. At least on the level I am using it. But it was definitely worth the upgrade for things like Houdini, Maya and After Effects.
