Who are we?
Sir George Lisle’s Regiment of Foot is a reenactment group that portrays a Royalist infantry regiment from the English Civil War period (1642-1651). Named after Sir George Lisle, a loyal Royalist officer who fought for King Charles I, the regiment is part of the Sealed Knot, a UK-based charity and reenactment society dedicated to bringing the history of the Civil War to life.
The reenactment group recreates the life and experiences of soldiers and camp followers from the era, focusing on military drills, battle tactics, and the daily life of 17th-century infantrymen. They wear period-accurate uniforms, often consisting of blue coats, with a mix of musketeers and pikemen forming the core of the regiment. Pikemen wield long pikes for close combat, while musketeers carry matchlock or flintlock muskets for ranged firepower, both integral to 17th-century warfare. Water carriers and drummers stay in the back to support the troops.
Aside from battles, the group also demonstrates camp life, with tents, cooking, and social activities authentic to the time period. They often perform at historical events and battle reenactments across the UK, engaging the public through live demonstrations, parades, and educational talks about the causes and consequences of the Civil War.
