Eh gonna have to disagree with ya. Don’t get me wrong I love Dragon Knight, when it came out I remember chilling on Saturday mornings, and waiting for it cause it was one those shows that aired in the afternoon. Hell without it, I might not have gotten into Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Metal Heroes, Ultraman, etc. Back to it, IMO, I don’t quite think the characters are better then Ryuki’s and the story to, least not all of them but I’ll get to that. In Ryuki, every Rider wants something, either it’s a personal matter, selfish, or even heroic. Kido/Ryuki comes off as the typical goofy protagonist, but he grows throughout the show, and quickly learns he doesn’t want to kill other Riders, and even protect them. Ren/Knight wants to save his dying girlfriend, Shuichi/Zolda’s wants to live forever because he’s dying of some disease, basically everyone is kinda figured out. Asakura/Ouja is pretty much the worst human being in the show, however, I think he’s one of those villains that you love to hate. And he definitely has the highest body count, also a lot more fearless than Strike, EX: When Knight uses the survive card for the first time, and sure Ouja gets his ass kicked to, but at the start he’s like, “Tch, whatever. I’ll still fight you.” Meanwhile Strike loses the last of his intimidation with, “This is not good!!” After rewatching Dragon Knight, the only characters I liked were Kit, Len, the advent master, Xavix because he’s the most entertaining character in this show, and smoking hot Kase. Even if those characters still acted kinda”edgy generic”, it was still entertaining. I feel like Dragon Knight suffers an identity crisis, mainly cause sometimes they’re going for a mature theme, but then they throw humor that doesn’t quite match, and I’m sorry, but a lot of these characters are so bad. I mean l like Thrust better than his counterpart, just because Gai was the most annoying little shit I’ve ever seen on television. (Seriously I fucking hated how that little twig got one of the best suits in the show, but least he dies and gets eaten by a spider in the 13th Special) To me, every other rider besides Len and Kit, were pretty forgettable. With such classic quotes as, “MARRRRRRRRINES!!” “Brad Barrett always WINS!” And I know Ryuki’s story pissed people off, but when watching it, I understood what it meant, and that’s why it made me sad. But you know what, I was just gonna say Ryuki was overall better than Dragon Knight, but truth is, both these are apart of my childhood. Even if Ryuki might not be my top series (maybe Kuuga, Blade, W, Gaim, or Faiz.) But it will hold a special place in my heart, along with Dragon Knight. Plus, one thing I will admit Dragon Knight does better, even though there are a few scenes where they white it out, so you can’t see the brutal parts, however, Dragon Knight’s fight choreographed scenes are awesome, even topping some of Ryuki’s fights.

Because the american theme was 1. A piece of shit. 2. Wasnt as iconic as MMPR's And 3. Wasn't composed by Ron fricking Wasserman

Low ratings and supposedly 4Kids didn't like how the series had a mature story line or something, so they tried to preempt the show whenever they could. At least that's what I found out when I tried looking up for the reason behind the show not doing so well in the US. So far the only source I could find that explained this was from tv tropes, so the accuracy isn't 100%.

@@Cain1134 what do you expect from 4kids. the studio already had a bad record of censoring and altering the plot's from different anime show's that they dubbed. and their just as bad (No) Funimation. who's currently under legal backlash after falsely accusing a certain va.

But what 4k did is they never accused others who are innocent.

Ik this comment is old but is it crazy the same happened for me I was 9 watching this show and this is what introduced me into KR but I saw a fan edit of decade and ryuki thinking it was some kind of special lol and after all these I'm finally gonna get a belt haha I'm excited

Ryuki was received fairly well in Japan but is kinda controversial in the West, whereas Dragon Knight was a commercial failure over here (though that was mainly due to 4Kids's attempts to sabotage it), but Japan loved it.
