happy tactics tuesday!
Why do you want Beowulf? He seems lame.
oh wait, nevermind
I like when you hit them so hard their skin falls off.
The tactics expert is finally back
11:27 Part 4 wen?
If you can convince my friend to drive a full day to come here and play it we will do a part 4
Can't wait for part 4!
Wow what are the odds that we both watched a video this old at nearly the same time?
This game makes so much more sense as an adult.
What a horrible night
Having the morning star this early in the progression is going to make the game a cruise, combat-wise.
I really feel like I missed a lot of stuff somehow. Next time I'm gonna try and map out the world.
I played a lot, and at some point somehow managed to kill just one of the bosses. Then later at some point I happened to stumble across a Nintendo power magazine which had a walk-though for one of the characters which led to their boss fight as well. So after that I kinda realized that the other three characters probably have their own boss fights somewhere down there as well. Not sure how long it took, but I did manage to kill the dragon/final boss. Great game, with absolutely no hand holding really. Although not super challenging either really, more just trial and error puzzles and dungeon exploration. They just drop you in there, like "good luck bro! You got this!" Not for the feint of heart = )
whats the difference between retry and continue? omg lol i lost it!!!!!!
I got my copy with the manual so that at least helped. The son is the only one who can beat the dragon because of destiny. 😂
This game is so terrible, good cover art and everything else is a waste of time. I don't know how games like this ever got licensed by nintendo. Barf... similar to Athena
Had this game before I even knew how to read so it was destiny that I would never know or care much for it lol
I beat this as a child with no walkthrough, it's not that bad but you need to commit to making tons of runs until you figure out who to use where and how to get each characters key items. The most important part is figuring out which dungeon quadrant is for each character.
I beat this as a kid easy 😎
Yes I've beaten this game. Ok there is a dragon in what looks like a painting. You must defeat the dragon. There are four crowns you must get, to. You must get these crowns by solving puzzle mysteries you will need several items to get to each crown. Then once all four crowns are collected you must get a magical sword. You use the crowns by going infront of a painting of a person. Some are boys and some are girls. Then you can get the magical sword. Once your done with that go back to the house and get I think it's the son, the blue character. Use him and give him the sword and go down to the painting, destroy the dragon and conquer the game. This is not the worst game just difficult
Played the ass out of this as a kid. This is one of those you didn’t really care about beating. It was just fun to explore for hours
"I just imagine an alternate universe where this game caught on instead of Zelda" I love this guy
That remix at the end though ❤️❤️❤️
"So this is how you enjoy this game, you just make up your own stories?" Lol, YES.
Finish this playthrough
plays on and off for a couple weeks forgets about it and go back to mario
I had the manual but it must not have been very informative, because I don't think I ever got closing to solving the game. It was just mystifying. You could wander for dozens of hours in those dungeons exploring what would turn out to be only a dead end.
2:09 NO!!! No no no. There is NO info in the manual. I had no idea what to do. No one did. There’s 100 items and no idea how to figure out what they do. Also... no idea what to do. I never even made it to the mini bosses.
Same here. Played this game so much as a kid and found a boss. ONCE!
Is there an episode 4+?
Certain characters only can access certain areas leading to keys and needed magic items to access new areas with other characters.
You guys laugh too much at nothing. Gets annoying after a couple minutes.
it was hilarious up until woodcutter, then it went hard cringe
this is the problem with millenial "gamers". they expect that the goal needs to be clearly defined. they expect that within 2 hours of playing a game, they should be able to "master" it. rewind, if you can, to the 1980s when you recieved a game such as this one, that one can learn its mechanics and not expect a quick reward system. imagine that this game was as difficult as anything that programmers intended and that you could spend an hour or two as a 9 year old in between homework thinking about, playing, enjoying. I can't stand the young whippersnappers that are entitled to "good game design"... fuck you. when it was warm out, we rode bikes, when it got dark out, we played Nintendo - and as hard or cryptic as those games were, we kept going back. millennials think they invented intuitive design into computers. ha! fuck 'em
I played this game a couple times almost 30 years ago at my friends house. I remembered the gameplay and music but for the life of me could not remember the name. I finally googled NES games and screenshots yesterday and finally found it. Started playing and realized two things: 1, my memory served correctly as this being an awesome game with great music and 2, I have my work cut out for me.
Those music remixes are great
You had two inns! RIGHT THERE!
Heck, I beat this game as a kid. Granted, this wasn't an easy one. I liked how you could just wander around exploring for ages. The portraits can be used to teleport when you have all the crowns. It is almost like another game in the areas you've already seen. In the lore the dragon was starting to awaken on its own, and thus had to be defeated. Xemn's area is to the upper left from the painting. You went to pochi's area. The monsters there do extra damage and the crown is guarded by a mimic that one shots anybody else.
my kind of virgin
🙈
Can't tell you how many hours I spent playing this as a kid. I did complete the game. Since you didn't really explain the basic plot here it is: You need to kill the dragon. To kill the dragon you need the sword. To get to the sword you must use the portraits to teleport around (which you noticed, but they don't serve as area markers). To use the portraits to teleport around you must possess all four crowns. Each crown can ideally be obtained using one of the 5 playable characters (each is most suited to one of them - it is possible to use some of the characters to obtain a crown they weren't intended to obtain). The 5th character is the son and he can use the crowns and sword, so they all have a role. You actually were using the father to search the pet's space, which is why you were taking a ton of damage there. You would have eventually gotten to a mimic that would insta-kill any character but the pet. The manual does explain all of these concepts more or less.
Rich Freeman this is great to know. I just started playing this game recently.
@@sonoluminescent Just a tip for casual play. I suggest using either the pet or the girl for casual play initially. The girl with her jumping capability can get around most easily of any of the characters. She can't get through some of the areas that need special abilities, but for the opening area and quite a bit of the rest her ability to just hop around makes it really easy to explore. She can also destroy blocks with an item, which is the simplest way to get past barriers. Again, she can't get everywhere, but she moves in the most simple/intuitive/platform-oriented manner. Xemn is probably the hardest because the glove basically turns his area into one giant puzzle - oh, and he can soft-lock himself. The pet has the obvious advantage of invincibility which of course makes casual exploration easier. The problem is that the short jumping makes it really slow-going and you end up having to use enemies as stepping stones - not fun for a lot of areas. The pet also has no way to break blocks I think. You can get all the basic items using these two characters I think. The deeper interior of the mother/father areas aren't going to be reachable, but by this point you have a better feel for the game. Oh, and boss order does sort-of matter. I forget but I think the bosses come in a certain order no matter what area you do first, and escalate in difficulty, so saving the stronger characters for last can make the fights easier. The boss area layouts might also come into play there. The boss fights go really fast - both you and the boss can do quite a bit of DPS so one or the other of you is going to be dropping fast. Really though the main thing is just getting TO the crowns - I remember the first time I actually got a crown (the girl's) it was a HUGE feeling of accomplishment. And ignore the speedruns for casual play. The tactics they use are largely unintended and they skip items that make the whole thing much easier (no jump/pause glitches and so on).
I think Cyan was at least in the running for most impacted by Kefka. He killed his wife and kid and pretty much his whole kingdom.
Yes. Very sad.
Cody really likes square's old stuff better/liked FF before it was cool. I feel like this game was just as popular as 7 with my generation.
1st place
rebelbandman Oh
It is two player!! Don't you remember us playing this and discovering the ultimate combo!!
That was a different Final Fight. Maybe 2?
No Chrono Trigger on your SNES RPG ranking? Chrono Trigger is #2 above Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, FF2/4, and Earthbound. Also Evermore and Illusion of Gaia are good. Also, you should do a 30 days of 30 years of NES or whatever and play some Dragon Warrior.
Chrono Trigger is so good I think of it in a whole different category is probably why I didn't think of it.
it's fake 3D
It's a trick! We've been fooled!
if this game came out today there would be 20 minutes of instructions. I love how this just throws you into it. part of the fun is figuring out how it works
Yes.
also the episode where buster is Mr. cool or something and says to be cool you need to rip the loop off the back of your shirt. was that a joke? did the 90'a have something against shirt loops?
I don't remember that.
when they did the name game and plucky was mysteriously missing. also do a bonus video of the football stage!!! it's the best!!
Yes. No. It's the worst.
I like how you still have the game memorized.
Video games are all I can remember.
"cartridges" is that what the kids are calling it these days?
Heh heh heh
Now Killer Instinct
You people are good at this game
Thank you.
sonic boom is hold right then left then punch I think. or left then right facing the other way. right? I really want to play that game right now.
Thank you for the information. Come to my house and we can play it.
this was enjoyable to watch. hope there is a buster busts loose day!
Oh yes. There will be.
