Rain Parade in addition to be one of founding bands of Neo- Psychedelia also played drony wall of guitar which sounded like shoegaze ( must include The Dream Syndicate here) before the term was coined
I saw this band in 1984, in Tempe AZ. It was right after the mini LP, Explosions in the Glass Palace came out. I remember they did Like a Hurricane by Neil Young. Just fantastic! This video helped me to relive that great show.
One of the saddest moments in my life was when i realized these guys weren't putting albums out anymore... If any band never got its fair due, it was this one.
I think I saw them at the LSE supported by Snakes Of Shake. But i was on LSD so I can't remember - anyone there? Or did I imagine it? Would have been 1984/5 isn?
saw these guys back in 83 I think at a small house in flint. There must have been 20 people there and 18 were there to see the Strolling Bones. I sat there on the floor and loved every second.. I couldn't believe were coming and my friend wanted to drive there to see the Strolling Bones. RP played 4 or 5 songs and called it quits. they were so broke they didn't have cigarette money so I bought a pack and passed them around. Will Glenn was the nicest guy. Only Paisley band I got to see live.
I am sure that one could find plenty in Cleveland to learn, study, consider, think about, ponder, etc. Only a lack of imagination would have one write off Cleveland (or LSD), after a modicum of visits.
I remember watching and recording this at the time ( I still have it on VHS in the attic somewhere) but I'd forgotten just how terribly shit Richard Skinner was as an interviewer. Fortunately anybody who persisted after listening to his bollocks is treated to an excellent tune.
Classic Rain Parade...For me,the EP was one of the musical highlights of that year. Matt Piucci is one of my favorite guitarists. They were a fabulous live band.
Thanks for posting this, I remember seeing The rain parade perform on the Whistle Test On BBC 2 many moons ago and have loved them (and their various incarnations since)
Matt Piucci has had a long career, even if hardly anybody has ever heard any of it. After the Rain Parade broke up, he made an album with Tim Lee of the Windbreakers in 1986. He then joined Crazy Horse for an album ("Left for Dead" in 1989), and then he and a couple of Rain Parade members formed Viva Saturn, which continued in the same vein as Rain Parade for an EP and two albums, spanning into the mid-late 1990's. He was a founding member of two more one-album-only bands in the 00's, and eventually took part in the Rain Parade reunion of the late '10's. A very strong songwriter and singer, perhaps the most neglected and overlooked one of the entire rock era.
i remember these guys back in the day.Explosions in the glass palace and third rail emergency power trip...worth tracking down.I also remember them doing my secret country on whistle test with mike scott on guitar.
Very Beatles circa Sgt Peppers. Like a Lennon song down to the production. Even Ringos style on drums. This is a complement.
I saw Rain Parade at a small club named 'Vig's' in Madison WI circa 1984. I remember most everyone up front sitting American Indian fashion.
Pisses me off at 59 that I never even heard about this band
✨🌻💚🌷🌿🌸🌼✨
They really coulda used a 4 th guitarist!!
"Acid's like Cleveland...once you've been there twenty times, you really don't want to go back"
I can't help but go back again and again to this clip. The audio is knackered. But the performance is utterly mesmerizing.
.......awesome .
Immense track from THE most under-rated band ever!
2:40 Acid's like Cleveland? Once you've beentimes Dude, I don't think people want to go back to Cleveland after their 1st visit.
too bad can't read the sign over the door, reminds me of a place called the gaslight that was destroyed in the quake of 94.
Great band from 80’s LA, Prime example of “Paisley Underground” sound
2:40 I've been taking trips to Cleveland for 30 years. I wouldn't say no to a Cleveland trip right now, in the right company.
The Rain Parade sound great on the 2018 disc "3 X 4". I really wish they'd do another full length album of new material.

The slower they are the heavier they sound. This and "Nightshade" I like. The other stuff just sounds weak to me thus far.
This 1983 live concert got me hooked on them and now I love the first album too ua-cam.com/video/lyPg-rElHeM/v-deo.html
Is that Nick Drake?
wtf?
That was powerful. I hope the rest of this show got filmed and surfaces sometime.
I pray to the music gods that it will be so.
<3
Bless UA-cam that I might be able to see footage like this!!! A far cry from the 90s when I would be lucky to catch Mazzy Star on MTV at 1 AM!
Boy that was great. thank you!

Light in the Attic are re-releasing their back catalogue and they have a new e.p. coming out "soon."
Right there with you, but 'Last Rays of a Dying Sun' came out this week! Sadness lifted!!
New album out now!

You didn't imagine it! I was there too. It was great....
vam4444 quality! a great time. I was at a college in north london called kingsway princeton, former alumin included Rotten and Vicious!!
Interesting old boys! It was great to have the chance to see Rain Parade in London... I think it was actually early 1986.
vam4444 just googled it and it was 6th December 1985! Near my birthday which makes sense!
Oh well - nearly 1986 then! :D
That deleted comment must've been a doozy.
Truly an awesome and satisfying reunion in SF!!
Look deeper. The "crap today" in this genre is better than ever...and Rain Parade is a major influence still!
I think he's playing with Rain Parade tonight Dec. 20 2012 in San Francisco!
Very sad to heard the passing of David Roback, great musician and talented man R.I.P
I'm seeing them in SF too! gonna be great! been wanting to see them since 1986!
Seeing them tommorrow night...first gig in 20 years?

It also appeared on a compilation called "The Enigma Variations" by Enigma Records.
Anyone know how I can find John Thoman?
I forgot how good this was!
@misterobvious I COMPLETELY AGREED WITH YOU!!!! SAW THEM IN THE RIGHT PAYSLEY PERIOD HERE IN RIMINI!!! LOVE EM!

Holy smokes, thanks for posting this. I've loved this band since 1983, and have never seen an interview with them.

Yes that, and Days of Wine and Roses, are both two of the quintessential documents of the whole Paisley Underground Scene!!!
Thanks for the trip Dad.

Great guitar playing . . I wonder what happened to Piugi I agree that their first two albums are criminally neglected . . . so strong
