What a good looking chap on the tenor 😉 (Its me) 😊
What a wonderful surprise! Haven't seen St Thomas's in 25 years… grandparents had moved just west of Salisbury near Wilton by my time, but (on one side) they continued to be active in the parish going all the way back to the discovery of the 'Doom Painting'… (do hope you had the chance to see it whilst there!) So stirring to hear those very bells I once knew again! The words 'thank you' seem insufficient!
I want ringing the tenor bell
You will have to work up to it
this is all so amazing! congrats on these bells
They were lovely to ring on, and sound nice too.
cast by abraham rudhall bells 1 to 3 4 is james barwell tenor john warner and sons 1714 1893 1884
Are these in Ab?
Correct, they are Ab.
Same as my home tower campsall - 8 bells 11cwts in Ab
@@Coreytheringer2345 campsall are slightly heavier than these bells -Longcot are 8 bells 8cwt in Ab.
that tenors clapper looked like it weighed a loooooooot man💀
these bells are really very big
Yes they are. The heaviest weighting 46cwt, 2 and 1/4 tons

These bells are very interesting sonically, always excellent video from this channel
Thanks, they were very nice to ring on.
The bells sound really good
They were rewarding to ring on.
Was this at the rwnyc? I got one just like it
Yes it was.
that's amazing!! LIKE#8
Thanks, I appreciate your support.
Sound like pots
Yes they did sound like pots, but nice ring though.
What are you doing in my neck of the world?! I like these, but they're so much harder work than they need to be. They were moved down to the gallery around 10 years ago - they were deafening upstairs but so much easier to ring....
They certainly weren't easy and the tenor kept on dropping at every handstroke if you dont pull it enough. And i was there for a ringing tour in bershire/Wiltshire/Oxfordshire.
Anticlockwise
Yes it is.
I nice small bourdon bell right?
It never use to be a bourden bell it was hung for full circle ringing at st Michael cornhill in london. But at some point it's going to be transported to perth in Australia, (not sure when) and its only 42cwt about 2 tons.
How old is the old Cornhill tenor as it looks fairly new
@bellringer22 1960 ( I think) because it was recast by Mears and Stainbank about that sort of time when they were over-hauling them.
@@bellringer22the years when they were cast/recast will be in the description Of this video. ua-cam.com/video/9z6agm4VBC0/v-deo.htmlsi=RdCxJDG1k4mYRsQh
@RingerOliver59 thank you for the information about the old bells of cornhill.
The original 12 at Cornhill were hung by my dad who was a bell hangerfor Whitechapel. I remember him say8ng he didnt like the bells as they were a m8xed bunch of old bangers and way to heavy for the tower. He would love the new Taylor 12.
I agree the old twelve didnt sound nice, but I prefer the new twelve and they sound a lot nicer.
Well done was the tenor hard to ring?
Thanks, and yes it was hard to ring.
thats Yorksire Surprise Major
Indeed it is.
Very well done on the tenor😀
Thank you.
great coordination to ring the tenor, congrats on the channel as always!

amazing bell! great technique
Thank you! Cheers!
mears and stainbank the tenor and 10th have a purple clapper
The 11th and tenor have purple clappers. But the rest are iron clappers
Wow 🤩
Superb 12 - they were nowhere near as difficult as they were made out to be!
Yeah, I agree, they were quite remarkably easy.
Went a lot better than I expected
@@Fin.Fan01 did it? What makes you say that?
@@RingerOliver59 I heard some things about bow which turned out to now be true so therefore they were a lot better than I expected them to be
@@Fin.Fan01 yep definitely
How did you find them?
Challenging, but fun.
hohoho they sound like the old ring at southwark cathedral
Just glorious!
bells 1 to 4 are thomas lester 5th 7th and tenor lester and pack 6th mears and stainbank plus frame
And a difficult ring, but good challenge.
gillett and johnson
Yes and there lovely to ring.
Superb bell - great control too!
Thanks, it was lovely to ring.
@@RingerOliver59 Would love a ring here - the back 12 seem scarily similar to Wakefield
@@Ringer_Fran there on every Wednesday night, and tenors are just lovely sounding because of the wooden shafts Clappers, but when standing in the belfry when the tenors ringing they even better than in the ringing room. Wakefield I wouldn't know.
@@RingerOliver59 Both tenors seem to have real boom and power; I'm guessing that's due to wooden-shafts in both.
@@Ringer_Fran I think so.
trebles and sharp 4th are whitechapel the rest john taylor flat 8th is anthony bond trebles and sharp 4th are cast the year i was born the others in 1937 flat 8th in 1621 its the oldest bell
They sound new
There not new they were resorted in 2009 but not new, 1400s they were cast.
Ayo I sing there
So your in the choir?
I had a great uncle, 'Clint', who was a dapper clapper flipper. This one time, he fell into the bell, and got clipped by the clapper. Honest!
Ouch! Where was it when it happened?
hohoho
They do sound lovely
☺️
The 7th heaviest tenor in UK Weighs over 5000 lbs
Did you mean the 10th heaviest tenor uk
Wait… Is the new clapper installed?
@@EricLeiserArtist00 no, it's been there as long as I know
There is a new clapper at St. Seraphimʼs bell
@@EricLeiserArtist00 well this isn't the seraphim bell.
bells 1 to 4 are whitechapel 5 6 7 and tenor 13-2-26cwts gillett and johnson 8 and 9 j and w taylor 10 and 11 john wallis trebles are from 2006
My favourite bells, although I am tiny bit biased.
What do mean by 'biased'?
Well I kind of have a connection with the Minster and spend as much time there as I can. Also, although I don't live in York or even Yorkshire, I am in the Northern Province and so it us my metropolitan church.
Why flip the clapper? Does it affect the weight and or roll of the bell? Very interesting
It affects the bell because if it is up wrong it will be harder stand, by flipping it over to the correct side of the bell so it is easier to stand, and it has tends to up wrong all the time same as the 4th.
What’s wrong with that bell?
The bell is up wrong. So the Clapper is on the wrong side of the bell so it's been corrected to correct way. ( up right)
@RingerOliver59 cast by g mears and co thomas and james bilbie mears and stainbank and john warner and sons in 1858 1903 and 1787

Great photos! To my knowledge, there have never been any decent photos (if any) of these gorgeous bells. Never seen blue stays before either haha.
