The International Union of Architects (UIA) is an international non-governmental organisation recognized by UNESCO as the only architectural union operating at an international level.
Through its triennial Congresses and Forums, its international Design Competitions, its Working Groups and its Commissions, the UIA acts as a platform for knowledge sharing, helping craft innovative and collaborative solutions for architectural advancement, with a particular focus on sustainable development.

UIA UN Summit
On the 21st of September, the UIA, UN-HABITAT and the Brazilian MFA organised a high-level roundtable, hosted as a Summit of the Future Action Days Side Event., in the Center for Architecture in New York. Architecture and urban planning professionals, together with representatives from relevant ministries, discussed proposals to overcome the global housing crisis, mitigate climate change and build resilience in human habitats. Speakers included representatives from UIA (Regina Gonthier and Rui Leão), UN Habitat (Raf Tuts), MRE/Brazil (Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago), MTE/France (Yves-Laurent Sapoval), Architects’ Council of Europe - ACE (Ruth Schagemann) and the American Institute of Architects (Graziela Carrillo).

The 2023 UIA Guidebook for the 2030 Agenda is inspired by the “Architecture to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals”, which has 2 volumes published in 2018 and 2020. This guidebook will continue to demonstrate the interaction of architecture with each of the SDGs and focuses on the connection among the different goals.
