REDCap how to show multiple choice options based on the option selected in the previous question?
Very helpful! Thanks
This video was not helpful at all.
I appreciate the feedback. Any suggestions on what can make this video more helpful?
Great. Is there any way to make it work on the main survey page? The one you see with the public survey link.
On the public survey when it is opened or the Survey Distribution Tools page where the "Open public survey" link is?
@@cb2redcap Yes, on the public survey when it is opened.
Hi there this is a long shot in sending a comment because I don't know if the account active. I am trying to make this work with categories and dates. However the information needs to come from a different instrument. I have made it work with text using @PREFILL "[ptmdi_address]" but when it comes to categories or dates I am unable to make it work. Are you able to help? Thanks. I know how to do with the fields like you've listed but is there no way to populate the physical category or date field once a value is known on another instrument? Thanks.
Did you find a solution for sending birthday notifications?
I have tried a couple of different things, but haven't found a solution yet. If I find a working solution, I will create a demo and post it.
Hi! Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm still new to REDCap. Is there a way to make date 1 always = 00:00, without me having to enter it in each form? I.e., the only time I would enter would be time 2, and it could still give me time difference in hours and in minutes. Thanks!
If you hard code the date/time value and use it in the formulas, then you won't need to enter it for each form. If you have to select a date for date 1, but still want the time to be 00:00, then you can use the @CALCTEXT function and concat() function to build a string with the date and time, then use that in your calculations.
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much , can imagine other use cases.. good idea for the creative usage submission in consortium
Incredible. I feel like my mind has expanded watching this.
I believe there is a way to auto-refresh when launching the excel sheet (you do the carrot under "refresh" and it is an option)
Thanks for this , just wondering whether this works for people using the redcap mobile app
A member of our support staff tested it, and it does not fully work with the mobile app. The validation of future dates did not work and he received this messages: "The following active modules in your project are not supported by the REDCAP Mobile App", "External Modules are additional plugins that reside outside of the main REDCAP application, and are not supported in the mobile app".
@cb2redcap thanks for the insight
this is so timely, also happening with calcdate
I thought that might be the case, since they have similar functionalities. Thanks for the confirmation!
If any video explaining advanced reports external module with examples will be greatly helpful
When I try to use the Advanced Reports external module, I get this error: REDCap crashed due to an unexpected PHP fatal error! If I am able to get the external module to work in our REDCap instance, then I will try to create a demo for it.
Very helpful information. Thank you
Thanks a lot for sharing these.. it helps wider REDCap community very well..
Nice explanation please put some videos on dynamic sql and advanced reports external module
We will work on that. Thank you!
This is great, thanks a lot!
Hello, I am struggling to achieve one specific scenario in Redcap. Can you please help me. Here is what I am trying to achieve. I have designed 4 survey forms Intro form Report breath issue form Report heart issue form Report other issues. Very 1st form (Intro form) has a links to 2nd,3rd,4thform. Upon clicking links, I want users to be redirected to respective forms in the survey. Can someone please help me .
I need more information in order to provide a specific solution. Can you submit your request on our REDCap support survey, and we might be able to set up a Zoom meeting or directly communicate through email? Here is the link: redcap.uahs.arizona.edu/surveys/?s=3NE9TCW98R
Quick question- Is there a way to use the @FUTURE action tag to validate a minimum date after a certain period of time? For example, I have two date variables, one that captures the recruitment date and another that captures an audit date. The audit date must be at least 30 days after the recruitment date. Is there a syntax that can validate that the audit date is at least 30 days from the recruitment date? Hope that makes sense, and great video!
The @FUTURE action tag will only tell you if the date is in the future. There is no way to set a specific number of days using the action tag. The way I would solve this problem would be to use the @CALCTEXT action tag, nested "if" statements, and the "datediff" function. The @CALCTEXT action tag allows you to run a calculation and export the result as text (regular calculated fields can only perform calculations on numbers and can only output numbers). The "datediff" function allows you to get the number of days between two given dates. And the "if" statements allow you to output values based on whether the condition is true or false. You can nest the "if" statements to have multiple conditions and multiple outputs. I would create a text field to check if my audit date is 30 days after the recruitment date and put this in the action tag section: @CALCTEXT( if(datediff([recruitment_date],[audit_date],'d', true)>=30, 'YES', if(datediff([recruitment_date],[audit_date],'d', true)< 30, 'NO', ''))) This uses two date fields (recruitment_date and audit_date). If the number of days between those two dates is greater than or equal to 30, then it is going to output "YES" in the text field. If the number of days is less than 30, then it is going to output "NO". If neither of those conditions are met (like if one of the date fields doesn't have a value yet, causing the datediff function to not be run), then the output is just going to be an empty string. The text field label could be something like "Is the audit date 30 days after the recruitment date?", which means the answer would be "YES" or "NO" or blank. But you can add whatever output text you would like. It doesn't have to be "YES" or "NO". Hope that helps. :)
@@cb2redcap thanks very much for your response, your advice seems to have worked!
Very Useful. Thanks.
I Completed this series Today so far it is the Best and it covers everything in Redcap thank you so so Much ❤❤❤
thank you Manuel so much, I love excel again!
Hello, I am stuck on 3:00. where do I get the script such as how you got it from notebook?
The script file can be downloaded from our CB2 Video Tutorials page (link in the description above). But here is the direct link to the script file for you to download: arizona.box.com/shared/static/geo26wxb50s9ymdj2kxje653hsehxily.txt
Thank you so much for this ..
During the live demo, there was an issue when I was creating the image map for the shapes radio button. The reason it was not working was because I copied the image map HTML from the checkbox example and did not change the ID values for the radio image and radio image map. Both demo image maps are fixed in the project XML on the CB2 website.
this is gem.. thanks for sharing..
Thank you Manny! You’ve helped me so much during the years, and continue to do so. I used to spend HOURS with Shazam or the rich text editor in descriptive fields… HOURS lol
Hi, Thank you for the video! Can I upload my own .svg I would like to create an affect grid that limits to one selection per survey.
There is an external module, called SVG Imagemap, that should do what you're asking. Here is the documentation for it on GitHub: github.com/ui-icts/redcap-svg-imagemap
Hi! is there a way to import a report from one project to another?
As far as I know, there is no way to export a report from one project and import it into another.
You are amazing guys! Thank you for your generosity
Is there a reason you didn't just use embedded fields?
This demo was recorded using REDCap version 9.5.0 when the field embedding feature was not available yet.
How do we get that code for the enhanced buttons action (highlight on hover) in the survey settings.
I created that locally for our REDCap site. Here is a link for the CSS code that I used for the buttons in the demo: arizona.box.com/shared/static/qdlmtqmxo6c9p2lzqdbedxvalyaalk6h.txt I used the REDCap CSS Injector external module, which allows us to add CSS styles to any elements in the REDCap UI. If you download that text file and copy/paste the values into the CSS code box in the external module, then your buttons should display the same way they are in the demo. Make sure to set your buttons to "Enhanced radios and checkboxes" in the Survey Settings for your instrument. If you need more information on how to use the CSS Injector, there are other videos on our channel that cover that topic. NOTE: When I originally uploaded the text file link above, there were two CSS code statements for the anchor tags that were for something else in my project. You only need the two div styles for the buttons. I updated the text file to reflect this.
We recently did a demo showing how to style the survey buttons using the CSS Injector. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/SPfj_xciXJE/v-deo.html
Is this available on the app yet? I want to use this to help data collectors navigate instruments while in the field?
This feature was released with version 12.0.0. So, if you are using that version (or higher), then it should be available.
Great tutorial, thank you! I noticed the header row is not showing labels but field names. Is there a way to correct this? Thanks again!
I reached out to the developer from the presentation. They said they were unable to get the field labels for the column headings, only the field names.
Thank you for the response!
Does everyone have access to this module? I haven't found it.
Two possibilities: 1) you may not have it enabled for your project, or 2) your REDCap administrator might not have downloaded and installed the external module for use with your REDCap instance. First, click the "Manage" link under the External Modules section on the left-hand menu in REDCap. Then click the "Enable a module" button and search for the module and enable it. This will enable it for your project. If the module doesn't appear when you search for it, then that means it has not been installed for your REDCap instance. If that is the case, then you will need to contact your REDCap administrator and ask them to install if so you can enable it for your project.
How do embedded fields differ from Shazam?
The Shazam external module was how users created HTML layouts before the embedded fields feature was implemented. They are very similar. With Shazam, the user has to manually write the HTML code (and CSS and JavaScript, if applicable), whereas the field embedding is done in a rich text editor, which automatically generates the HTML and CSS code for its display.
Very good guys! Thank you for sharing this!☺
Hi! I was having this exact issue with REDCap. I wondered if you were able to have a follow up response. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
As of our current version (14.1.6), REDCap still saves the survey as a partial response if any required fields are missing. One of the ways to get around this is to hide the submit button until all of the required fields have been filled in. We have a video that briefly covers that topic, which can be found at this link: ua-cam.com/video/-JM73UhopBw/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
You mentioned that you could create a dropdown that populates with the query based on a previous choice. Do you have a video on that?
To create a dropdown of choices based on data that has been previously entered, you would want to create a Dynamic SQL field in REDCap. This is something that will have to be created by the administrator for your REDCap instance since regular users can't create a Dynamic SQL field on their own. This link from Stack Overflow might help you, since it's a similar question: stackoverflow.com/questions/65648281/redcap-automatically-populate-fields-from-earlier-records
Could you please explain where and how this javascript file has to store in redcap
You have to enable the REDCap JavaScript Injector external module and save the JavaScript code there. This other video on our channel has a brief explanation about enabling the module and adding the JavaScript code (about 5 minutes in): ua-cam.com/video/b5m-jMSKk0Q/v-deo.html
@@cb2redcap Any security concern by enabling the REDCap JavaScript Injector external module e.g. possibility of Cross-site scripting?
What if there are 3 times differences? What changes do I make?
The demo calculates the time difference between two times (A and B). If you want to know the difference between 3 times (A, B, and C), then you would just add another set of fields and calculate the time difference again using the same formulas. You would just need update the field values depending on what times you want to compare (A and C OR B and C). If you want both, then you would set up another set of fields to compare all times with each other (A and B, A and C, B and C).
How can I have this module and use it in my project?
Ask your REDCap administrator to download it from the REDCap Repo and enable it for your institution's REDCap instance.
This is exactly the explanation that I was looking for but the image is very blurry and I cannot follow it. :(
I re-edited the video and doubled the zoom of the original presentation video from the source. Hope that helps! :) Here is the link for the new video: ua-cam.com/video/wpjD6fu1hak/v-deo.html
Piping values from a public survey from another project is not working using this module. Is this issue only happening with me ? How can i fix this issue?
I would need to know more information about what values you are trying to pipe across projects and how the two projects are set up. One thing you can try is building the demo projects from our CB2 website (cb2.uahs.arizona.edu/services-tools/surveys-clinical-databases-redcap/redcap-video-tutorials). The Cross-Project Piping project is under the External Modules section and includes the two project XML files.
Hi there, thank you for sharing this video. I have been trying to use Stop Action in Redcap. However, I could not activate stop action button. Please let me know where I can find Stop Action button for the questions.
The STOP icon should automatically appear for each field in your instrument, unless it is a text box or notes box.
Great to see these videos on UA-cam!
