is Rain enough water for a Lawn?
A Lawn's watering requirements normally can't be met by rainfall throughout the season, 1" weekly and 1.5" in July/August. Dry periods happen, thinning out your grass. When rain does return, it's opportunistic weeds that fill in the thin and bare areas first.
We demonsrated HydraGaurd here in early July. Thought you'd like seeing that 5 weeks later, it's still doing the job.
HydraGaurd can greatly stretch the amount of rainfall your grass has access to absorb. It keeps grass thicker longer before dry periods have a negative effect If you do irrigate, reduced water consumption up to 50% has been proven locally to be real and achievable.
Applied twice a year, we perform the second annual application in September along with seeding. This really helps the success of new grass sprouts by keeping tiny roots hydrated.

Rain after spraying Weeds?
Переглядів 37Місяць тому
Does Rain Impact on Herbicide & Fertilzer? Yes, and beyond what you may think. Rain can actually enhance the performance of Herbicides shortly after spraying. Manufacturers know the common circumstances faced by by applicators, including rain, and frequently accommodate it their formulas. Aftermarket additive "stickers" are mixed in by Lawn Doctor when the manufacturer doesn't include them. The...
Covering you bareness again?
Переглядів 22Місяць тому
Nobody likes naked soil, and weeds will help you cover your lawn when your grass doesnt, no fig leaves needed. Weeds are opprtunistic survivalists, finding their way quickly onto bare and thin lawns. Two natural occurances can bring you weeds; Lawns thinning seasonally with the heat of summer, and the pre-emergent from spring are expiring to allow seeding. An unnatural reason to have weeds is o...

Recovering from Lawn Whiplash?

Was your lawn doing well and turned brown 4 days later? It's easy to be lulled into believing your lawn is great during the moist period a while back. Then, we moved into 30 days with only .7" of rain, about 16% of the needed moisture. Healthy grass with good roots will stand 7-10 days of dryness and then move into "Protective Dormancy" to conserve nutrtion and energy. Keep hope though, Dormant...

Boy, was he right. The last two weeks have really flipped conditions on St. Louis area lawns. Drought and fungus have begun taking their toll. This video shows the hard-to-catch Mycellium stage of fungus. Sunshine chases it away, so you usually only find it early mornings. It's presence says Fungus is there, waiting to turn grass brown. You can help prevent damage with proper watering or by hav...
Can too much rain damage lawns?
Переглядів 134 місяці тому
Excess moisture leads to plant problems. Soil, roots and plants need oxygen as well as moisture. Fungus results nearly anytime something stays damp and dark too long. Think of a wet rag left lying in a corner of your garage, or your feet! Grass has the same problem. April has been frequently wet and cloudy, allowed Melting Out/ Leaf Spot Disease into St.Louis area fescue lawns. This disease alo...
Mixed Blessing of Rainfall

Add moderate temperature to wet, bare, flat ground to St. Louis area lawns and you're likely to get Nutgrass. Some call it Watergrass because it favors areas with poor drainage and compacted soil. Regardless what you call it, this lawn alien is a pain by any name. Nutgrass has no preventive herbicide available, but can be sprayed to kill the plants currently visible although new ones may reappe...
Great day for Links at LaSalle

Monday was another terrific event for the annual Links at LaSalle benefit golf outing. It was a sellout as expected, raising money in a couple new ways, too. Lawn Doctor of Fenton sponsored the first-ever Putting Contest, won by Randy Carder who received a nice Odyssey putter for his effort. We can't help ourselves from looking at turf conditions wherever we happen to be. Aberdeen Golf Club was...
This is not a weed, it's just happy grass!

Get ready, It's not a weed, just happy grass. This will be common very soon, and that's good news. Bluegrass confuses people on several points. To start with- it's not blue at all. And then when it appears like this, is often mistaken for a weed. This is an example of bluegrass developing seed heads. Sadly, they are typically inert, causing Bluegrass to rely on a crawling Rhyzome root network t...
Straw is NOT your friend (most of the time).
Переглядів 735 місяців тому
Spring is an irresistible time to seed lawns. Fall yields better results, but why wait another 5 months and allow weeds to claim that exposed soil. Tradition says cover new seed with straw. That's fine for the side of a road project. But it's wrong for normal residential lawns; It's ugly for a long time, and new grass is torn out from its shallow roots when you try to rake it away. Home owners ...
Should we call it "Leapspring"?

This year Spring arrived March 19, but never recall it being earlier than March 20. Even Summer arrives a day early on June 20th, 2024. The arrival of spring rains would sure be welcome. So far, about 50% of normal spring rain has occurred. Many thirsty plants and grass are waiting for a jump start of moisture to go with our moderate temperatures. While we wait, it would be smart to start water...
Watch brown grass turn green!
Переглядів 536 місяців тому
Spring Lawn Cleanup DOES NOT include scalping brown Fescue or Bluegrass lawns. It should return to green if you allow it some sunshine and warm tempertures. Scalping, even old-school burning, works with warm season turfs like Zoysia and Bermuda. In proper climates, they are able to regenerate thick turf to choke out weeds. But scalping clump type grass like local fescues exposes soil between th...

Why are your longer videos on UA-cam Children's app? I think that is sort of creepy, perhaps children are your target customers?

Why would you want to get rid of Henbit? It is a natural medicine that grows freely in your yard. It has many uses. Ppl should learn about nature before they go killing it off.

Fun fact: The reason Clover is seen as a weed these days is all due to marketing. When the herbicide 2,4-D was created, it was marketed as a "selective" herbicide because it didn't kill turf grasses. It did, however, indiscriminately kill all broadleaf plants it came in contact with, such as Clover. In order to profit off of the product, companies that 2,4-D launched a multi-million dollar ad campaign to convince homeowners that this was a feature, by claiming that Clover is a weed that should be eradicated. Clover is incredibly good for your yard and garden. It overcrowds real weeds (while playing nice with turf grasses), it's nitrogen fixing, and its deep roots help loosen compacted soil. It's drought, rain, flood, and snow resistant, and it can grow in most environments (e.g. USDA Hardiness Zones 3-10). Pollinators love it, and pest insects avoid it!

Glyphosate is the tool to use. Gently squeeze sprayer trigger to drip 2-3 drops down the stem off a single plant. Don't spray or touch plants you don't want harm because it certainly will
