Porsche 911 SC 3.0 Turbo Exhaust Sounds at Night
We went for a short night drive, before the thunderstorm kicked in (you might see some lightning )... Me in my Turbo 911 SC and Jon in his Stock 911 SC.
You can hear the turbo whistle, flutter and the exhaust crackles on the over run..
Hope you "like" it ;)

Porsche 911 Engine - Oil Filter Inspection -
Переглядів 4727 годин тому
This car had an engine build approx 25-30 years ago but sat until late 2024 before it was started (not by me!) After only a couple minutes running, it developed a seriously loud "clanking" sound which wasn't resolved by checking valve clearances. I have my suspicions but offered to open the oil filter for the owner to see if it told any stories.....

Trying to capture the sounds of my 1979 Porsche 911 with a Turbo conversion. I've become quite addicted to the whistle of the turbo spooling up and also the slight flutter when lifting off the throttle quickly. #porsche930turbo #porsche911 #aircooledporsche #aircooled #cartok #rwb #porsche
"BUDGET" Porsche 911 Engine Rebuild - 3.5 Litre with Bosch CIS
Переглядів 68721 годину тому
In this video, I talk about how I prepare the engine cases for a Porsche 911 and also about how to upgrade it when rebuilding. My aim with this engine is to find a compromise in cost and performance... trying to give a higher performance outcome for only slightly higher cost.
Aircooled Porsche 911 ECU - Cam Sync Loss
Переглядів 13421 годину тому
A while ago, I developed a loss of sync on my Cam Position Sensor.... It only happened at higher rpm and high load. In this video, I was trying different settings and electronic filters and sending the logs off for eval. The results were ... "surprising"... #aircooled #porsche911 #porsche911turbos #ecumaster #emublack #camsync

Porsche 911 - HotRod - 3.45litre SC - EFI & ITBs - No Oil Leaks!!
Переглядів 9514 днів тому
This is an engine and gearbox rebuild I performed in 2020. The 3.0CIS engine was converted to 3.5litres with ITBs, and Motec EFI. The engine was run in on a dyno and I only got to drive it maybe a couple hours before it got trucked interstate. (and yes, this engine is amazing!) I did this video to document that there are no leaks whatsoever! And to this day, Angelo tells me it still doesn't lea...

Have you ever wondered what it looks like inside your chain box with the engine running? Well now you know! Give this video a LIKE so it can find its way to another Porsche enthusiast! I made this video a few years ago. Someone on Pelican Parts made the comment that chains were flapping around and I didn't believe him. See the results for yourself.

inspect no 4 with a borescope. you can also rotate the engine with the spark plugs out to see how it feels. then compression test. double check ignition cables.
@@rotorblade9508 I had a cheap borescope but it didn't reveal anything obvious.
Did you get to the bottom of this problem?
Looks like it. Might do a follow-up vid
That’s a bottom end noise , rod or main bearings , that engine is toast , sorry to say ….
I agree. The owner is still not willing to have it pulled apart for confirmation. He's an older fellow so I'm not pushing him. Removing the plug lead from #4 while running, reduces the knock noise by 90%.
Turn it over by hand and see if it sticks anywhere. Check valve timing - the clearances may be OK but if the valves are opening when they shouldn't they might hit pistons. I don't know if Porsche pistons have valve cut-outs, but get a bore camera and check they haven't got one or more pistons wrong way round.
@@salamander5703 if cam Timing was that far off, wouldn't it affect more cylinders on that same bank? When cold... No noise at all. As it warms up, even after a minute, the noise begins and gets louder till it reaches what is heard in the video
Turbo sounds are so different and throaty !!!
@@dimitristsalatsanis7912 this one sure is!
Looks so fun!
I would not think that is to bad for a new motor. May well be the piston hitting the cylinder head did they resurface cylinder heads or does it have a bigbore kit...
Unfortunately, because it was built 25 years ago, exact details aren't available. We do know the heads were definately rebuilt, but that's the extent of the details.
Sounds awesome. Is this in Australia?
Sure is... Brisbane, Queensland... where are you based?
Sounds really nice
That sounds super nice Mike
Thanks mate... it's an ongoing project!
Love ❤️ love ❤️ love
She sure is singing sweet
cheers :) Hoping to rebuild it later this year as a dedicated turbo engine... lower compression, bigger boost ;)
Sounds good Mike, will be interesting to see what power you can make with CIS. Is there no way to twin plug it for sensible money like on the 3.2s (where you can use a 964 distributor, with 993 ignitors, and an ECU mod by Steve Wong)? And by the way what's the plan for stroke and bore, is it going to be a 98x76,4mm engine? Cheers
hi Lukas.. there is a way.. but it's all still much more money. Choosing a final platform is always about drawing a line in the sand regarding how much money is available. Then sticking to that plan. There are multiple combinations available.. and they are all good choices. But being able to experiment is fun :)
Great work a very sweet machine all round.
thanks Tony.. hoping to rebuild it into a dedicated Turbo engine later this year.
Good info and this will be fun to watch. Your channel popped back in my feed after an absence for whatever reason. So that’s a good thing!
hi Patrick.. thanks for watching! Interesting to hear how my channel/video suggestions stopped being recommended to you.. I guess it's the youtube algorithm at work? If people (like you and I) don't 'like' the vids, then youtube stops suggesting them to other people with similar viewing habits? either way, glad to have you back ... don't forget to subscribe ;)
I think I did alright with my "budget" EFI conversion! But where you save with dollars, you spend with time (which I didn't mind.) How long have you been building 911 engines mate? I'd love to have a go at building a 3.3 short-stroke or something like that one day. Looking forward to seeing how you go with the 3.5!
G'Day.. have been building engines on and off for several years now. You can see some of my work at www.aircooledporsches.com.au (can I post that here?) Congrats on your efi conversion.. would love to hear more about it.
Sorry for the late reply. I need to do an update video on my build anyway at some point, but I'm still knee-deep doing property renovations and landscaping for the time being. Perhaps later in the year I can pump something out half-interesting!
Great project. In my previous 1974 911 I mounted a rebuild ROW Carrera 3.2 long block with SSI (2.7-3.0) and CIS from a 1976 Carrera 3.0 but to make it run perfectly and not too lean I had to adjust the WUR control pressure down to 09 bar cold and 2.1 bar warm. On a dyno I measured it to 231 crank HP like a stock ROW 3.2
This is encouraging to hear. I've been told that cis can support decent HP but I think the main limitation is how big a cam it can cope with. I test ran an engine on my stand with some MEATY cams using CIS and it couldn't really idle but apart from that it seemed adequate. I did not run it in the car tho.
Great video and presentation by you Mike. Better than some so-called "professionals".
thanks Rob!
Great video i will be following the build, just a suggestion how about carbies maybe. I think will be a bit more responsive. I think either way these engines never cheap to build.
hey, thanks for watching.. hope you didn't fall asleep! Yes, carbs would definately be an option but a quality set of carbs isn't cheap, and the CIS is already here. I've not had much to do with carbs but have been told the current/new PMO are not what they used to be since being taken over by EMPI.. Carbs or efi/itbs would def get a much stronger result with better response, but let's see how the CIS holds up. :)
Great video Mike! Thanks
@@tomlaube8958 thanks mate... I'll rope you into a video soon. 😉
@911engineguy I have a good video from Lakeside 😂😂
Hey Mike! Love the idea. Keep it up!
@@austinwrighteous thanks mate. Keep an eye on this space to see the next update... Hopefully not too long!
Got any questions? Hit me up below...
Lovely colour! I've always read the limitations on the stock 915 is torque - about 350ft/lbs. 300whp is great at 6 psi with high compression and response! BTW: That's a good amount of ignition timing at idle - I run about the same amount with the same AFRs 🙂
thanks for watching :)... can't wait to get a better audio setup to take some better in car footage
Sounds like a 930
Sounds great 😌
The insides are so clean and fresh. How long since the rebuild? Chain drives are loud, but they last. Thanks for doing this. Less mess than I expected.
I think maybe a couple thousand kms only.... would be nice if they all stayed this clean huh? ;)
I sold my complete (working) intake to some guy in Switzerland via eBay. Harder to legally modify things over in Europe (generally) so there is occasionally some demand for it. Don't know if it's worth your time sorting through that mess though 🙂
actually, I think I have a plan for this set. But I do have ANOTHER one sitting in a tub somewhere!
awesome job Mike. Also I love the color. I have 83 SC and would love to do the same thing, you have given inspiration
It turned out to be quite doable. There's some threads on Pelican Parts that claim to have done it even cheaper than me.. but it was more about the experience and hopefully learning a new skill.

Don't you just hate oil leaks? Don't settle for having leaks.. you can fix them! What's the worst oil leak you've had ?
What do you think of this style of video... would it be better if I could get some quality audio recording of the exhaust and turbo??
This was a Euro 3.2 Carrera - it needed a lot of love and a bit of other maintenance around the car too. But it's running like a champ now and the owner is a VERY happy man. When was the last time you did some maintenance to your car?
I've always wondering what it would look like inside the chain boxes while it was running ! Have you ever done something like this on your car?
Very Interesting mike. Is that a rocker noise getting louder when the engine is getting warmer? when reinstalling the tensioners do you compress them in a vice and place the tension pin in them, when you install the tensioners pull the pin out to reset the tension on the chains?...great video.
gday John... might be a rocker noise there.. honestly, I can hear lots and lots of noises! When it got to normal temp, it was fairly quiet. As for the installation, yes I do it as per above.
@@mikedsilva Thanks for the quick reply mike when compressing the tensioners in the vice do you use oil to compress or once installed in the engine does the engine pressure fill the tensioners ...cheers
@@john2ndname I've never bothered with prefilling or priming them. I install them and go.. usually I'm doing a complete engine build so I'm always cranking without fuel or spark to build oil pressure before allowing the spark to happen. So far, not had any issues.
