    Revisiting this many years later, and my timing in the slow areas, yuk... that initial cymbal work leaves a lot to be desired. If I didnt have such bad carpal tunnel syndrome these days, I'd give it another shot.

      Sorry for the late reply - I removed the forks a few years ago as the boards kept glitching. I now have the tube mounted on a CGEM.

    May be late but that thick dot after every pen change is an intentional pause to get ink flowing. I believe that can be turned off.

    I'm not being funny, just curious, but why did you purchase such a cheap amp with that great audio setup you have? Thanks for the video.

    1. Please can you have a look at the page given below and advise me either to buy or not to buy. Its Indian made by an individual amp maker. Read his descriptions. www.ebay.in/itm/Vaani-1000-1000W-RMS-Stereo-Audio-Amplifier-with-Toroidal-Transformer-/201375042698?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash=item2ee2e34c8a

      Haolun Hangsing No idea my friend - That item is way over my expertise. I will say that you are best off keeping things simple. If you are getting started in audio - go with a simple small amp that you can learn about. That integrated amp in your link has so many sub-systems you may never fully understand how it works.. Best of luck to you!

    Great video. Very much appreciated knowledge. Although, do you think you could send me a pic showing me exactly what part you switched out to improve the bass with the 10K uF? And also, the one u used is too big for me, what do you think is the largest size that'll fit in the stock body/shell? And lastly, if you could please link me to that part to buy it I would GREATLY appreciate all your effort. I am a novice at this, but with your help I think I can do this! Please, and thanks in advance. Got yourself a new sub.

      Best bet is to get on digikey or mouser and look at 10K uF electroclytic caps and check sizes... no idea whats available. Doesn't have to be an audio quality cap since its not in the signal path, its in the power supply circuit. As to the place it goes - There is a pic in this post www.diyaudio.com/forums/class-d/90500-lepai-t-amp-ta2020-100.html#post2820148 that shows it's location on the board.... It s marked as C1.

      escher2112 Wow, Once again thank you so much.. You just introducted me to a whole world I didn't know existed... Such deep audio-modders.. Especially for audio products even such as the Lepai. So again, thank you very much my friend.

    Its worth noting that a 100 hours burn in time, is a good rule of thumb with tri-path amps.

    I run two of these stock, (upgrade PS) one for each side, for stereo power amps, with an Accuphase C-200 for the preamp. They're shockingly good. Acam rDac for source.

    Check out the link I put in my description for wire gauging. Verify the length of run and I would use 1 or two gauges heavier just to be safe.

  • @Fucknuts4u
    @Fucknuts4u 12 років тому

    I wondered about the power supply wire. The male DC coaxial plug they supplied comes with what looks like around 18 gauge wire and looked a little thin to me. What gauge would you recommend? And should I get a new DC male plug to go with the heavier coax? I may have to horse around one of these days and do the mods to this thing.

  • @escher2112
    @escher2112 12 років тому

    Actually - if you swap the power caps for larger ones you may eliminate the need for a full 5 amps of power... the problem is, the power supply is drastically under powered because of that tiny cap... so when the tripath chip calls for power, it just runs out of steam. But - to answer your question - yes, you should be fine with running an inline 5 amp fuse - I would use a fast blow and make sure you run heavy gauge power supply wire since 5 amps will fry thinner wire.

  • @Fucknuts4u
    @Fucknuts4u 12 років тому

    I was indeed cranking the volume. So after discussing it with you I grabbed a slightly larger power supply and that fixed that issue. Thanks for encouraging me to think! My plan is to mount this for use on my motorcycle, I'm guessing an inline 5amp fuse and a direct hook-up to the motorcycle battery should be okay? What do you think? After ruining one too many things, I no longer have faith in myself or the little knowledge I think I once had...

  • @escher2112
    @escher2112 12 років тому

    I use a 5 amp supply on mine... the amp rating doesn't matter since the amplifier will only draw the amount of power that it needs. Were you cranking the volume when it shut down?

  • @Fucknuts4u
    @Fucknuts4u 12 років тому

    Just did some searching and there's a guy claiming that the solution to that issue is using a 5amp power supply rather than the recommended/supplied 2amp supply. Does this sound logical and/or safe to you?

  • @escher2112
    @escher2112 12 років тому

    If the input is overloading and causing a shutdown, that is a characteristic of the tripath chip, and would not be something you can swap out. Most likely its a safety feature in the tripath to protect the input from a hot signal.

    Luvin' what you've done here! I found a similar thing myself, I replaced the terrible caps in my Tripath based Teac A-L700P with some Russian paper in oil caps. The result? MUCH improved bass! There is a video on my channel about this if you're interested. Anyhoo, well done you!

    Can you link the ferrite core 10 microhenry? i can't seem to find them

  • @escher2112
    @escher2112 12 років тому

    @xyjames Definately - I rarely turn the volume up at all. I think its more about having available current vs actual power being used. The stock cap just doesn't store enough energy to supply the bass at any volume. Another thing to note - if you've seen other reviews of this amp - the actual "true" output is no where near the rates specs - its more like 3-5W before the mods - after that the distortion goes way up. No idea how the mods help as I don't have a way to test.
