He described an incident when he was very young and a spiritual practitioner of music dressed in torn and dirty rags came to an event. Initially people made fun of him but when he began his performance everyone was entranced. They tore their own clothes in frenzy. So he is saying music is such, this powerful. Often glasses break, tabla or instruments give way because sometimes the frequencies match perfectly and the material cant tolerate that much intensity. He further says, the end in music is this- you become a saint, a recluse, its only you and the almighty. In another incident, a sufi fakir got affected by a filmy song presentation, he jumped from the terrace. People were surprised, it didn't seem to have any spiritual deep meaning... But since he was oriented that way, he said in the hospital that he interpreted romantic lyric as a longing for the almighty. It was a true devotional song. Thus if people belittle musicians due to religion or social norm, that is incorrect. There is no bigger spirituality than the practice of music. In indian culture, sur or note is equivalent to god... There is nothing wrong in this thought.
